On this circuit around the village of Ottenhöffen, you will see five mills, a water-powered forge and... numerous self-service schnapps fountains (Schnappsbrunnen). One of the most beautiful hiking trails in the entire region is the Wutach Gorge (Wutachschlucht), nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the Black Forest". These are wild gorges, followed by footbridges, steps and paths carved into the rock, with a stream that is sometimes calm, sometimes cascading, and lush vegetation. PLEASE NOTE: the road is currently closed for the return journey to Schattenmühle. Continue along the Lotenbach gorge for about 1.5 km until you reach the B315 road, where you will find the bus stop.

The route is in two parts: The long 9 km loop takes you through forests and mountain meadows to discover some magnificent scenery. The shorter 2.3 km loop takes you to the waterfall, which unfortunately is very popular with tourists, so there is a charge for admission (€8).

In 1805, Napoleon and Francis I of Austria imposed the border on the Rhine. Rheinfelden then became Rheinfelden Baden, a German industrial town, and Rheinfelden Argovie, a Swiss spa town.The route runs along the German bank, which is equipped with viewing platforms and benches, to the hydroelectric dam and then along the more wooded Swiss bank. Return via the historic town and its old bridge, the Altebrücke.

The hike can be done in either direction of the circular route.The direction of the circular loop shown is the ascent of the gorges and waterfalls. The path consists of steps to make the ascent easier. Once you arrive in the hamlet of Allerheiligen, you will find amenities and places to eat.The ruins of an ancient abbey are open to visitors. The return journey is along a forest road.There is a dedicated car park at the start/finish point. Please note that this hike can be very popular and can get quite crowded, both in the car park and along the route.

A panoramic tour in the Markgräflerland region from Britzingen to the Neuenfels ruins. Along the way, we enjoy great views of the Black Forest and as far as the Vosges mountains.

This is an easy hike, best avoided in hot weather. The route passes through the many orchards around Sasbach, then the vineyards near Leiselheim and the giant chair (Stuhl) that marks a vineyard cru. The path mostly follows the yellow diamond markers.

This nine-day route allows you to discover different aspects of the southern Black Forest.Starting from Steinen in the Kleines Wiesental, you will cross beautiful forests to reach the pretty village of Kandern. Then, for four days, you will follow the Schwarzwald Westweg trail, passing through the highest peaks of the Black Forest: Belchen, Feldberg and Herzogenhorn.You will also stop off at Titisee, a pleasant lakeside resort. The second part of the route is devoted to the Albsteig, a trail that follows the River Alb from its source at the foot of the Feldberg to Albbruck, where the River Alb flows into the Rhine. On the way, you will stop at Sankt Blasien, a remarkable town with a magnificent cathedral and cloister.

A beautiful hike starting from Haslach that takes you to the Sacred Well and Chapel, the Urenkopf and the Devil's Pulpit rocks. Very pleasant in warm weather as it is mostly shaded but offers some beautiful views.

This ninth stage will take you from Görwihl to Albbruck. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. You will enjoy the pretty waterfalls of the Höllbach and follow the Alb to its confluence with the Rhine. Once you arrive in Albbruck, the end of the hike, you can choose between Albbruck or Laufenburg, a beautiful German-Swiss village, for your overnight stay.

This eighth stage will take you from Wittenschwand to Görwihl. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. You will cross the beautiful Dachsberg forest and follow the Alb. In the evening, you will stop in the pleasant village of Görwihl.

This seventh stage will take you from Sankt Blasien to Wittenschwand. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. You will follow the Alb and walk along the Albstausee to the dam. In the evening, you will stop in the charming village of Wittenschwand.

A walk through the forest and vineyard of Nussbach with a lot a chery trees in the spring. From amazing view point on the Vosges and black forest, to tiny (or bigger) chappel passing by lambs and goats, this hike is easy to do. Think to bring a hat as part of the hike is fully exposed to the sun. A pleasant walk for a Sunday afternoon.

This sixth stage will take you from Feldberg Passhöhe to Sankt Blasien. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is the Herzogenhorn, the third highest peak in the Black Forest. You will enjoy a 360° panorama. In the evening, you will visit the town of Sankt Blasien with its imposing cathedral, whose dome is the third largest in Europe.

This fifth stage will take you from Titisee to Feldberg Passöhe. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. In the evening, you will stop at Feldberg Passhöhe, which, at 1,231 metres above sea level, is the second highest mountain pass in Germany.

This fourth stage will take you from Notschreipass to Titisee. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is Feldberq, the highest peak in the Black Forest. You will enjoy panoramic views as far as Mont Blanc. In the evening, you can enjoy a walk along the lake in the pleasant spa resort of Titisee.

This third stage will take you from the Auberge d'Haldenhof to Notschreipass. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is at Belchen, which offers a panoramic view. On a clear day, you can see the Alps from Austria to Mont Blanc.

This second stage will take you from Kandern to the Haldenhof Inn. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. Along the way, you will discover Sausenburg Castle. The highest point of the day is at Blauen, which offers a panoramic view of the Black Forest.

This first stage will take you from Steinen to Kandern. Starting from Steinen in the Kleines Wiesental, you will cross beautiful forests to reach the Black Forest trail: the Westweg Schwarzwald in the pretty village of Kandern.

Hike in the hills above Gengenbach. Car park next to a clinic. The route is accessible to all, with forest paths and small trails. The climb at the start is long but easy, and then you reach some small paths. At the end of the route, there is a magnificent view of the town of Gengenbach.

A lovely little walk with a must-see stop at the castle ruins overlooking Staufen. A walk alternating between vineyards, pastures and forest. Staufen, a small wine-growing and tourist village, where you will easily find somewhere to eat.

This short and easy walk is ideal for a warm day as you walk around a nice lake where you can swim and have a snack. It is also a great spot to observe some wildlife early morning or at sunset. Keep it mind this is a popular area so it might be really busy when the sun is shining.

This nice circular walk mostly goes through woodlands and vineyards. Along the way, enjoy many views, including one at the top of a nice little tower. During the spring season, it's a nice spot for wild garlic.

This version of the Albsteig (Black Forest) takes you on a 112-kilometre journey through the Alb Valley along the river from Albbruck to the Feldberg, the highest peak in the southern Black Forest. The first stage takes you upstream from Albbruck through and along the picturesque Alb Valley and, towards the end, through the Höllbach Valley up to Göhrwihl.

This variant of the Albsteig (Black Forest) trail takes you on a 112-kilometre journey through the Alb Valley along the river from Albbruck to the Feldberg, the highest peak in the southern Black Forest. Stage 5 is not formally part of the Albsteig. The Wolfssteig is both the continuation and the missing link needed to turn the Albsteig Black Forest into a multi-day circular tour. The Wolfsteig continues down into the Upper Rhine Valley to Waldshut and from there by public transport to the starting point of the tour in Albbruck.

The eastern route of the Albsteig takes you back down towards the Hochrheintal valley.

The third stage of the Albsteig leads via St. Blasien and the Westweg trail to Bernau and the pass at the top of the Feldberg. The highlights of this stage, apart from the impressive landscape, are the Windberg waterfall, the view of the cathedral in St. Blasien and the Herzogenhorn, the highest point of the Albsteig. On a clear day, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Black Forest and the Alps.

This variant of the Albsteig (Black Forest) takes you through the Alb Valley along the river from Albbruck to the Feldberg, the roof of the southern Black Forest, covering around 111 kilometres. Along the route, the Albsteig crosses two other long-distance hiking trails, the Schluchtensteig near St. Blasien and the Westweg on the Feldberg. The multi-day tour described here takes you along the western route to the Feldberg and back down to Höchenschwand via the eastern route. From there, the Wolfssteig (23 km) takes you down to Waldshut-Tiengen and finally by train back to the starting point in Albbruck.
