To reach Schluchsee:
- By train from Freiburg im Breisgau to Schluchsee.
- By road: From Freiburg im Breisgau to Schluchsee, via Titisee.
In the village of Schluchsee, there are several car parks available not far from the centre and the station.
(S/E) From St. Nikolaus Church, head west, pass the Hotel Schiff and take the small passageway to reach Fishbacher Straße. Walk north along this street for about 50 metres, turn left and follow Eschenweg to reach the lake.
(1) Take the path around the lake, along the railway line. Continue to the Im Wolfsgrund crossroads.
(2) Ignore this street, continue straight ahead on Seeweg and turn 90° left to reach the small peninsula.
(3) Walk along the lake to Aha, following the Seerundweg, which is also known as the Jägersteig (hunters' trail). Leave the shore and head towards Freiburger Straße.
(4) Cross Freibourger Straße via the underpass and head north on Jägersteig, also known as Feldberg-Schluchsee.
(5) Go under the railway line and follow the path north-east (Feldberg-Schluchsee or Jägersteig).
(6) Turn right and you will quickly reach a panoramic viewpoint over the lake (Bildstein). Continue until you reach a crossroads.
(7) Take the path furthest to the right, then a few metres further on, take the path on the left (Jägersteig). Continue through the forest on the path, which makes a 90° right turn, and you will come to another crossroads.
(8) At this new intersection, stay on the Jägersteig, the path furthest to the right. Continue for about 300 metres and turn left at a Y-shaped intersection. The Jägersteig makes a detour to offer a magnificent view of the entire lake.
(9) Turn 90°, continue on the Jägersteig and descend towards Freiburger Straße.
(10) At the intersection, ignore the path on the right that leads to the road and continue east on Jägersteig until you reach the junction with the L 156 road.
(11) Cross the small road, continue parallel to Freiburger Straße, use the underpass to cross the road and return to a crossroads near a car park, then reach the crossroads at Im Wolfsgrund.
(2) Still on Jägersteig, walk along the left side of the basin and pass under the railway line to return to the first crossroads you passed on the way there.
(1) Head towards the station along the path that runs alongside the lake. At the station, exit via the level crossing towards Bahnhof Straße in a south-easterly direction, heading towards the Seehof hotel and restaurant via the footpath that passes under Freiburger Straße. At Seehof, turn left and follow a path that leads to the village centre and St. Nicholas Church (S/E).
