Meet at the car park in Ebigen on Sallnecker Dorfstrasse next to a large barn by the roadside.
Coming from Weill am Rhein, drive through Sallneck for about 2 km; the barn is on the left.
Coming from Kandern, the car park is on the right, before you reach Sallneck.
(S/E) Start the walk from the path opposite the car park marked with a yellow diamond. After 50 metres, turn right.
You are now on Tiergartenweg. Continue along this path until you see Sallneck.
(1) Take the next path on the right to the village. In Sallneck, the Gasthof zum Hirschen is on your left; turn right towards the main road. At the intersection, go down to the left towards Tegernau for 60 metres, then take the second left.
(2) Take the narrower tarmac road on the left, the Thauenweg, and descend to the path that leads into the forest.
(3) Turn left towards Stauweiher. Walk along the reservoir and its stream until you reach the Stauweiher car park.
(4) Take the road on the left for 70 metres and then the path on the right that climbs into the forest, still following the yellow diamond signs towards Heissbachschlucht.
(5) Turn left onto a pleasant but slightly steep (600m) and very unusual path along a stream. When you reach the top of the second, wider path, turn left, then right, and after 100 metres you will arrive at Kähle Bückle (a closed chalet with benches and tables, offering superb views of Sallneck and its valley).
(6) Continue on the path to the right, ignoring all the paths that branch off to the right, until you reach a new crossroads at the Bücklebodenhütten chalet (yellow diamond).
(7) Take the Riedmatweg and then Bucklebodenweg paths on the right. You will see another chalet, then stay on this path for 2 km until you reach a tarmac road, which you will take, going up to the right.
(8) At the intersection, you will arrive at a car park called "Auf dem Hasel" on your left. Cross it and climb the path opposite into the forest for 300 metres, then take the path on the left and, at the wider path, you will find yourself back on the "Tiergartenweg". Take it to the right towards Ebingen.
(9) Continue for 1 km and take the path on the right, which will take you back through the woods to the car park where you started (S/E).
Good walk. Lovely scenery and a pleasant river.
