Around Obereggenen

Car park: coming from Schliengen/Liel, immediately at the entrance to Niedereggenen, turn onto the first road on the left (Weinbergstrasse). A few metres further on, turn left onto Schulstrasse and you will find a car park about 100 metres away. 

(S/E) From the car park, join Weinbergstrasse and follow it up to an intersection. Turn left towards the cemetery car park. Continue west-southwest on a wide path lined with cherry trees. On the uphill section, this path is bordered on the right by a dry stone wall (Die Trockenmauern am Freudenberg). Ignore a path branching off to the right and continue uphill into the forest. After a right-hand bend, you will come to a vineyard.

(1) After this plot, ignore a path (Wanderweg A. Jung) on the right leading downhill and continue on the wide path slightly uphill. At the top of the hill, pass a hunting blind. Stay on the edge of the forest on the path lined with fruit trees on the right. Do not follow Wanderweg A. Jung to the right. At the end of the forest, the gently sloping path is lined with fruit trees on the right and left and joins the intersection with a paved road (Heidel 379 m).

(2) Cross the road and start climbing a wide path towards Egt 1.2 km to the north-east. Continue climbing on a path marked with a yellow diamond. View on the right of Schloss Bürgeln and the two villages of Niedereggenen and Obereggenen.
Above the vineyards, head for a wide path visible under a telecommunications pylon. Leave a path descending to the right and continue uphill on the path marked with a yellow diamond. Pass to the left of the pylon and reach the locality of Steinenkreuzle, slightly to the right of the path.

(3) Four benches invite you to contemplate the landscape (Blauen, Schloss Bürgeln, Alsace plain, etc.). Return to the wide path, which is now descending. Pass a path descending to the left, then a path branching off to the right. Continue to an intersection with a paved path at Egt.

(4) Head straight ahead towards Voltel for 2 km. Pass Hohmatt/Feldberg on your left and Eichmatt on your right. Ignore the paths leading into the fields on your right and left and continue downhill on the path marked with a yellow diamond. At the transformer, ignore the paths on the left and right and continue straight ahead until you reach a tarmac road coming from the right. Continue downhill until, after a wide left-hand bend, you cross the road connecting Feldberg to Obereggenen.

(5) Cross the road at a place called Pfilb (416 m) and take the tarmac road opposite, heading uphill towards Sehringen/Kalte Küche (Voitlweg). Leave a path leading to Feldberg on your left. After 150 m, leave the asphalt road on your left and continue slightly uphill on the stony path (yellow diamond). Leave a path on your right leading to a farm. Continue along the edge of the forest until you reach an intersection with a cross path.

(6) Leave the path opposite, which descends and is marked with a yellow diamond, and take the path on the left. After about 250 m uphill, at the intersection with the road connecting Badenweiler to Sitzenkirch, cross the road (take care ) and take the Davidweg path opposite. After a few metres, leave the Vögisheimerweg path on your left, then a little further on, again on your left, the Badenweilerweg path. Further up, at a place called Himmelreich, leave the Finsterholz direction on your left, then ignore the Sandgrubenweg path on your left and, a few metres further on, you will arrive at a place called Blauenbach at a fork in a wide bend.

(7) Leave the Münstertälerweg path on your left, heading towards Ob Des Grüneck 2.4 km, and continue towards Wuhrbrunnen. A few metres further on, ignore the wide path downhill (Ruchmattweg) towards Rüttele and continue uphill on the yellow diamond path (Leideckweg). At a wide bend, ignore the Davidweg path going up to the left and continue for 300 m on the carriage road (yellow diamond).

(8) At the fountain and bench in Wuhrbrunnen, ignore the wide path towards Kalte Küche and the path leading downhill to the right (Wuhrweg) and take the small path towards Sandboden. Cross a wide path and follow a path marked with a yellow diamond on the right. 50 m further up, you will reach a wide path. Take this path to the right (yellow diamond) for about 100 metres until you reach an intersection.

(9) Leave the path going uphill on your left and the path going downhill on your right and take the path marked with a yellow diamond (Saltzeckweg) opposite. At a bend, ignore a path going uphill on the left and stay on the Saltzeckweg until you reach Sandboden (benches, tables and shelter). Join the road and climb a few metres to the left to reach the Schloss Bürgeln car park at Burgler Waldwegli.

(10) Above the car park, at a large intersection, turn right towards Klosterhalde/Vogelbach on the slightly downhill Klosterhaldenweg path (Yellow Diamond marker). At Klosterhalde, at an intersection, leave Lindenbrückli on your left and the path descending opposite towards Sitzenkirch to take a short, steep climb on the right towards Schlossattel.

(11) At the Schlossattel crossroads, turn left downhill towards St Johannesbreite on the Schlossweg path. Leave a path going uphill on the left. A few metres further on, at an intersection opposite an electrical transformer, head south-west, left onto the Rundweg path, marked with a yellow diamond, and leave the two paths going uphill on the right. After 250 m on the carriage road along a pasture, after passing a path branching off to the right uphill, you will come to a left-hand bend. Do not miss a path branching off to the right.

(12) Leave the wide path for this small trail on the right (yellow diamond) which turns left after a few metres. Continue downhill along a small fir tree plantation. Cross a forest path and continue straight ahead. You will arrive at a wide carriageway, which you should take to the right (below, the village of Sitzenkirch). On the descent, ignore a path leading off to the right (Steingrubenweg) and continue towards a farm. Cross (with caution) the road connecting Sitzenkirch to Obereggenen. Head towards the "hikers" car park at St. Johannes Breite.

(13) At the car park, near the farm, turn right towards the north-west, heading towards Am Quelltopf/Obereggenen, on the Panoramaweg path. At an intersection, turn left onto the Panoramaweg, leaving the Rundwegmöglichkeiten path on your right. Cut across a path and continue into the forest. Cross a few muddy sections... Cross a path and continue downhill to the end of the forest edge.

(14) Leave the Panoramaweg path, which branches off at a 90° angle to the left at the edge of the forest, and continue downhill for about ten metres. Then, at the two benches in a semicircle, take the Gränzväkli path. At the next intersection, next to a shed, leave the path opposite and the one going up to the left and head downhill to the right. 50 metres further down, cut across a path and continue straight downhill. Just before reaching the asphalt road, leave a path on the right and join the road.

(15) Continue downhill on the road. At a bench, ignore a path on the left. A few metres further down, walk along the fence next to the cherry trees to avoid the wide circular road. Join the road again and take it on the left. After a wide circular road, enter Niedereggenen. Follow the road downhill until you reach the main road. On the bridge, take a small path on the left along the small river. 100 m further on, cross the main road to rejoin the small path along the river. Continue until you reach Weinbergstrasse, then Schulstrasse, and arrive at the car park (S/E).
