Between Mullheim and Lipburg

After passing the car park for the Mullheim swimming pool, park at the end of the tarmac road near the sign for Waldparkplatz.

(S/E) Head straight ahead onto the wide, gently ascending Ziegleweg path to enter the Eichwald forest.
Pass the Waldparkplatz car park on your right, then the Nikolausweg path on your left, and take the Nikolauseiche path towards Vögisheim. Pass the Ziegleweg on your left and turn right onto the Eselweg path, marked with a Yellow Diamond. Ignore the Sonnenbückleweg path on your right. Pass close to a ruin on your left, go up two wide hairpin bends and, at a junction, rejoin the Ziegleweg path, which you should take to the right. You will arrive at a kiosk.

(1) Turn sharply left and continue uphill along a wide track between the forest and the vineyard. Enjoy a beautiful view of the village of Vögelsheim here. Ignore the signposted path to Lipburg on the left and continue along Grenzweg. Ignore Sonnhohleweg on the left and continue uphill. At the top of the hill, ignore two footpaths coming from the right and continue to the junction at a place called Feierabend.

(2) Ignore the path on the left towards Blauenblick and the one leading towards Scheffelt-Bank. Turn right towards Rheintal. After a short descent, you’ll reach the hamlet of Rheintal and its charming little square with its small bell tower and pretty fountain, “Platz fur zwei”.

(3) Continue straight on (Yellow Diamond) and cross the hamlet, passing the Klosterhof farm. Continue along the small road until you reach the junction with the road linking Lipburg to the village of Feldberg.

(4) Turn left onto the Lipburg-Feldberg road towards Rheintaler Hohe. About a hundred metres after the junction, leave the road – despite it being marked with a Yellow Diamond – and turn right onto an unmarked path between the vineyard and the forest. Do not take the track that descends into the vineyard. The “unmarked” path joins a wide Hauptweg path further up, marked with a Yellow Diamond. Continue uphill along this path. At the entrance to the forest and the end of the vineyard, ignore a path on the right leading down into the vineyard. You will reach a pine forest on the left. Enjoy the view of the hillsides and the village of Feldberg

(5) At the next junction, follow the path towards Hörnle. Do not take the path on the right, Emmenrainweg. A few steps from the top of the hill, you will reach a crossroads. Turn left (Yellow Diamond) and leave the Hörnlekopfweg path, which continues straight ahead. Then cross the Stangenweg path and continue straight ahead on the path marked by the Yellow Diamond. You will arrive at a place called Hörnle.

(6) Do not turn right towards Jungfernbrünnle, but turn left towards Rheintaler Höhe. After a stony descent, you will reach the road linking Lipburg to Feldberg again. Cross it and take the Kohlackerweg (Yellow Diamond) opposite. Ignore an unmarked path leading down to the left. After about a hundred metres, you will reach the place known as Scheffelt-Bank.

(7) Leave the wide forest track towards Feierabend and turn right (Yellow Diamond) towards Scheffelt-Bank. Following the Yellow Diamond, head towards the edge of the forest to a bench, ignoring a path on the left. Enjoy another fine view of Lipburg here. Continue to the left of the bench along the edge of the forest, then downhill through beautiful beech trees. At the bottom of the descent, near a house, turn left; look out for signs L2, L3 and the Yellow Diamond. You’ll arrive at a place called Kohlacker at a large junction. Superb views of the village of Lipburg at the foot of the Blauen.

(8) Turn right towards Lipburg. Pass the path to Blauenblick on your left. After crossing the meadows, you’ll reach the road linking Niederweiler to Lipburg. Turn right onto this road as it climbs and enter Lipburg. In the centre of the village, at a fountain, leave the road to Feldberg on your right, but turn left a few metres further up at Gästhaus Kolms. Cross a bridge. Do not turn completely right towards Badenweiler, but stay on the road, which curves slightly to the left. A few metres further up, do not turn right onto René-Schickeke-weg but continue uphill towards Römerweg. A few metres further on, turn left at a bench and just before the sign marking the end of the village of Lipburg, onto a path running along a ledge above Lipburg. Pass a path on the right leading to the vineyards and arrive at the small shelter Bamert-Hüsli.

(9) Continue through the fruit orchards. At a junction, ignore the path coming from the right and head down to the left along a tarmac section towards a wide path where there is a bench and a sculpture called Betrachten. At the junction by this bench and sculpture, take the Yellow Diamond route to the right, ignoring the descending path and the one coming from the left. Walk past a sculpture, then past another sculpture to reach a path leading downhill. You will come to a junction (another sculpture). Ignore the path on the right towards Jungholz and take the Knünteltalweg path towards Siebeneichen. Ignore a path on the left leading towards the pasture (there is a bench on the right on this path) and continue downhill, veering slightly to the right and following the Yellow Diamond. After crossing the valley, you will arrive in front of a farm and a fallow deer enclosure.

(10) At the enclosure, ignore the path coming from the right and continue until you reach the road linking Niederweiler to Lipburg. Cross the road and take the Krezbergweg opposite. Shortly after the junction with the road, ignore a path branching off to the right. At a junction, turn left onto Josbergweg, ignoring the paths on the right and opposite. Continue straight on along Josbergweg (pasture on the right). At a wide junction, ignore a wide path coming from the left to reach a right-angled junction.

(11) Ignore the path on the right and turn left onto Siebeneichenweg. Continue to a junction with Lipburgweg. Turn right here, heading slightly downhill, and do not take the path leading uphill towards Blauenblick. Continue downhill along the Lipburgweg, leaving the Nikolausweg on your left. Pass the Chrieswasserquelle spring and the entrance to a shooting range to reach the car park.
