Description of the walk

Start near the “Wyhlen Schulzentrum” bus stop: park along Kantstrasse (note that the school car park is private).

(S/E) Walk up the street and, as you reach the top, take Schneckenbergweg which branches off to the right: there is no sign indicating the street name, but it starts with cobblestones before becoming tarmac again.

(1) At the end of the street, take the road opposite, slightly to the left, which climbs into the forest (end of the 30 km/h zone), signposted by a Red Diamond indicating "Saint-Chrischona CH".

(2) After the bridge on the left, take the path on the left: signs reading “Waldweg gesperrt” and “Bei Nässe nicht begehbar”. From here, you are in a protected nature reserve. The path follows the Ruschbach stream; the trail crosses both banks via various bridges and duckboards to avoid the muddy sections caused by numerous small springs.

(3) When you see the path continuing over a bridge to the right, cross it to change banks and follow the path uphill to reach a junction with two benches. Continue straight on, cross the stream to reach the foot of a pretty waterfall. Follow the path which climbs to the right, then, at the top, turn left to walk up the stream valley and come out onto a stony path.

(4) Cross it, continue straight on towards Grenzstein - St Chrischona (Yellow Diamond). The path is often muddy, then you reach a path of white pebbles, which marks the border between Switzerland and Germany, where you can see the boundary stones. After crossing a small bridge, climb the steps.

(5) At the top, at a boundary marker, turn left (Switzerland) to find yourself on a path that then continues to the right and joins a tarmac road.

(6) Turn left, passing in front of the television tower. Continue, passing a restaurant, then, once you reach the four-way junction, turn right towards the small church.

(7) Return via the same route to the point where you joined the road.

(6) Continue straight on until you reach the end of the tarmac road; a barrier marks the border. Cross over to return to Germany. Follow Chrischonaweg to the end. When you reach the road, cross it and turn right, following the pavement. Then turn left to enter Rührberg.
Follow Inzlingerstrasse, pass the fountain on the left and, after the Rührbergerhof hotel and restaurant, take the road leading down to the right (Feldbergstrasse), which further on becomes Oberbergweg. Follow the tarmac road, passing through the orchards, keeping to the edge of the forest.

(8) At the end of this, continue straight ahead, avoiding the left-hand turn. As you enter the forest, the tarmac road becomes a path that veers to the left. After crossing the fields, the path runs alongside the forest and then enters it.
After about 300 m, take care: just before reaching a viewpoint over the valley, take a sharp right-hand bend to join the Försterwegli. The path climbs slightly and then descends.

(9) At a left-hand bend, do not follow the path that goes straight up, but the one that descends to the left.
When you reach another path, turn right to join the road leading from Wyhlen to Rührberg.
Head left, staying on the pavement. At the Himmelspforte bus stop, cross the road and take the small street leading uphill to the right, the Hofackerweg, which is closed to motorbikes and cars. Walk past the car park on the right for about 50 metres.

(10) Turn left onto the small forest path Kanzele (Yellow Diamond). This becomes narrow and steep.

(11) At the sign for “Wyhlen Ziegelhof”, continue straight on. From there, you can descend to the left, following the ropes to reach a viewpoint (caution: dangerous section).
The path passes through fragrant boxwood, then winds its way down.

(1) Return along the Schnekenbergweg you took on the way out to get back to the starting point (S/E).

Take care along the stream, as some sections of the path are overgrown.

I took a detour to Chrishona and had lunch on the terrace surrounding the church, sitting on a bench with a beautiful view.

A great route to do in dry weather!
Problem on the ascent to Ruschbachtal - trees fell on the path, making it difficult to get through!

Very nice walk in the forest, very pleasant in sunny or warm weather, as a good half of it is along the stream, in the shade of the tall trees (avoid in wet weather, as the banks of the stream are very muddy and even slippery). We missed the last part (apparently you had to take a dead end), but in the end it was a great idea if you don't want to hike too long or go too far.

Done in fine, dry weather. Nice pleasant path along the stream, which is not very busy at this time of year. Of course, the main interest of the route is the TV tower and the short diversions to visit the church of Saint-Chrischona.
