This is a great circular walk ground through the famous black forest where you will find great views of the German and French valleys.
Gorges Trail Stage 6 – from Todtmoos to Wehr (bad weather alternative)
The Schluchtensteig trail leads in six stages over 119 km from Stühlingen to Wehr, right across the southern Black Forest.
The last stage is the longest at almost 22 km. In case of continuous or heavy rain or other incidents, this is an easy alternative if you want to get to Wehr somehow and cannot walk through the Wehraschlucht gorge.
While the first half of the stage to Gersbach offers some variety, the hike to Wehr is exclusively downhill on a gravel forest path.
Gorge Trail Stage 6 – From Todtmoos to Wehr
The Schluchtensteig trail leads in six stages over 119 km from Stühlingen to Wehr, right across the southern Black Forest.
The last stage is the longest at almost 24 km and takes us through the wonderful Wehraschlucht gorge and later high above the Wehra river and then down to the Wehrastausee lake. Along the Wehra, we hike directly into the centre of Wehr.
Neuenweg to Belchen circular route
A route to explore the Belchen (the second-highest peak in the Black Forest), accessible only on foot. Those less adventurous can take a cable car or cycle along a road closed to motor vehicles, starting from Aitern.
A magnificent landscape with superb views, featuring patches of scrub and fir trees that have made this forest famous. Depending on the season, you can enjoy wild berries (blueberries, wild strawberries, wild raspberries and blackberries) along this route.

The Feldberg

Notschreipass - Titisee
This fourth stage will take you from Notschreipass to Titisee. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is Feldberq, the highest peak in the Black Forest. You will enjoy panoramic views as far as Mont Blanc. In the evening, you can enjoy a walk along the lake in the pleasant spa resort of Titisee.
Nonnenmattweiher Lake
This short and easy walk is ideal for a warm day as you walk around a nice lake where you can swim and have a snack. It is also a great spot to observe some wildlife early morning or at sunset. Keep it mind this is a popular area so it might be really busy when the sun is shining.
Albsteig (E4) from Feldberg Pass to Höchenschwand
This variant of the Albsteig (Black Forest) trail takes you on a 112-kilometre journey through the Alb Valley along the river from Albbruck to the Feldberg, the roof of the southern Black Forest. The fourth stage leads from the pass at Feldberg via Menzenschwand and St. Blasien to Höchenschwand. In terms of altitude, it is a little less strenuous than the previous stages. The eastern route of the Albsteig takes you back down towards the Hochrheintal valley.
Feldberg Passhöhe - Sankt Blasien
This sixth stage will take you from Feldberg Passhöhe to Sankt Blasien. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is the Herzogenhorn, the third highest peak in the Black Forest. You will enjoy a 360° panorama. In the evening, you will visit the town of Sankt Blasien with its imposing cathedral, whose dome is the third largest in Europe.
Tour of the Feldberg via the Feldsee
Discover the Feldberg (1,493 m), the highest peak in the Black Forest, via the Feldsee, a small glacial lake at the foot of the mountain.

Haldenhof - Notschreipass
This third stage will take you from the Auberge d'Haldenhof to Notschreipass. The route follows the Westweg Schwartzwald. The highest point of the day is at Belchen, which offers a panoramic view. On a clear day, you can see the Alps from Austria to Mont Blanc.

Wittenschwand - Görwihl
This eighth stage will take you from Wittenschwand to Görwihl. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. You will cross the beautiful Dachsberg forest and follow the Alb. In the evening, you will stop in the pleasant village of Görwihl.
St. Ulrich circular walk from Berglusthaus
The 8 km circular trail was inaugurated in 2013 and leads to the most beautiful vantage points in St. Ulrich.It also offers an insight into the mountainous landscape, characterised by scattered farmsteads, with an impressive alternation of wide open grasslands and multi-layered forests. Furthermore, there are various places to stop for refreshments and rest areas along the trail.
The St. Ulrich Circular Trail actually begins in the village centre at the signpost “St. Ulrich Rössle” (571 m). However, we join the route at the Berglusthaus and return here as well.
Gschwendle–Heinehof–St. Ulrich–Winterberg–Talweg
The marked circular hiking trail (yellow diamond) runs alongside the St. Ulrich Circular Trail (yellow diamond and town coat of arms) from the Berglusthaus in a south-westerly direction through a charming meadow landscape, offering magnificent views of Geiersnest and the Upper Rhine Plain. Along the way, terraced steps and stone walls at the edge of the forest can be seen, indicating former agricultural use.It is also worth taking a look back at the beautifully situated Berglusthaus and the impressive landscape around the Hohbühl. Further downhill, the route alternates between woodland and grassland. From a crossroads at the edge of the forest, we enjoy another view of the meadows and scattered farmsteads of Geiersnest, before the stony path winds its way into the dense forest.
Circular Giesshübel starting from Sankt Ulrich
Cross beautiful pastures leading to the Gerstenhalm Pass and then on to Eduardshöhe for remarkable views of Horben before a short stop at the Giesshübel inn and its panoramic terrace. Return to St Ulrich, first along the ridges with views of the Belchen, then through the forest via the Kohlerhof inn.

A lovely discovery in the Black Forest at Breitnau

Eichener See: in search of a lake that appears and disappears
The main attraction is Eichenersee. You’ll probably have to visit several times as it’s quite rare. It may appear once or twice a year, and in some years not at all. After a very rainy spell, when the groundwater rises, water seeps up through the ground and the basin fills. The place is magical. Then we’ll head up into the hills north of the Dinkelberg.
Around Bollschweil
A lovely circular route around the small village of Bollschweil, alternating between wide forest tracks and narrow paths. At times you’ll be walking through sheltered woodland, at others enjoying sweeping views along meadow paths.
Lake Titisee from Hinterzarten
Starting from Hinterzarten, this hiking route offers beautiful views. The trail first winds through pine and beech forests, in a peaceful and shady atmosphere, before reaching the shores of Lake Titisee. The circular route takes you around the lake, alternating between wooded passages and paved paths, with opportunities to take a break by the water's edge and enjoy beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Görwihl - Albbruck
This ninth stage will take you from Görwihl to Albbruck. The route follows the Albsteig Schwartzwald. You will enjoy the pretty waterfalls of the Höllbach and follow the Alb to its confluence with the Rhine. Once you arrive in Albbruck, the end of the hike, you can choose between Albbruck or Laufenburg, a beautiful German-Swiss village, for your overnight stay.
Albsteig (E2) from Göhrwihl to Häusern
This variant of the Albsteig (Black Forest) takes you on a 112-kilometre journey through the Alb Valley along the river from Albbruck to the Feldberg, the roof of the southern Black Forest. Stage 2 takes you from Göhrwihl back down into the Alb Valley, then over the Dachsberg, to the Albstausee reservoir and up to Häusern.
