Park at the Rebstockhalle car park in Nesselried (Nussbacher Strasse 4 – 77767 Appenweier). At the entrance to Nesselried, walk past the church and turn left; the car park is just past the bus stop on the right.
(S/E) With your back to the car park, head towards Nussbacher Strasse and follow it to the right until you reach the junction. Turn right (Yellow Diamond sign) and follow Engelgasse, first through the vineyards and then through the forest, until you reach the Weilerwald.
(1) Turn right towards "Schloss Staufenberg" (Yellow Diamond sign), ignore the next path on the left and continue straight ahead. The path leaves the forest and passes through the vineyards again. Follow the first path on the left at the edge of the forest, then continue, ignoring the successive paths to the right and left, to reach the Fuchsloch-hütte, from where there is a magnificent view of the valley.
(2) Continue. At the next junction, go straight on, then follow the path on the right which, after a left-hand bend, joins the Hohrank.
(3) Turn right; the path (marked with a Red Diamond and a grape) leads first through the forest and then back into the vineyard, reaching the Stollenwaldhütte(where there are tables, benches and a self-service drinks stand).
(4) Follow the path which climbs to the right through the forest, turns right at the Schwarzes Kreuz to re-enter the forest and leads to the Stollenwald, then the Illental.
(5) Turn left and head towards Staufenberg Castle (marked with a Yellow Diamond).
(6) Return to the Illental junction.
(5) Continue to the left and head for the Kohlstattblick.
(7) Follow the path on the right, which enters the forest and, after a left-hand bend, joins the Illental Reben. From there, turn left (Blue Diamond markings), pass through Hespengrund and turn right to reach, further on, the Kreuz Hespengrund.
(8) Continue straight ahead and follow the next path on the right. After the next left-hand bend, ignore the path on the right and continue to the Hilsbacher Höhe.
(9) Turn right, then at the next junction where several paths meet, follow the one leading into the vineyard (marked with a Yellow Diamond) which leads to Hinter St-Anton.
(10) Go round the farm on the left and continue to St Anthony’s Chapel.
(11) After the chapel, continue for a few metres, then, at the junction with a wider path, continue along the path opposite (marked with a Yellow Diamond) to reach the Maiglöckchenhütte(where you can have a picnic and rest whilst enjoying a superb view of the valley).
(12) Then continue to the right. Take thesecondpath on the right, then turn left. After the next left-hand bend, follow the path on the right (marked with a Yellow Diamond) to Hardtwald.
(13) Follow the path on the right. At the next bend, don’t miss the path branching off to the left (marked with a Yellow Diamond). Ignore the next path on the left and continue straight ahead. The path leaves the forest and leads to Vor Wiedergrün.
(14) Turn right, then, after the stream, turn left. The path passes through vineyards and orchards. After the right-hand bend, turn left and continue straight on to Nesselrieder Strasse. Cross it carefully, ignore the path on the left and take the next one on the right to reach Hofacker.
(15) Turn right, then take the next left, pass the Gasthof Krone, then turn right into Dorfstrasse, and left again to reach the Rebstockhalle car park in Nesselried (S/E).
