Refine your search for walks in Murianette
Murianette walks
The Combeloup National Forest above Murianette
This circular will take you to the heights of Murianette, with beautiful views of Grenoble and the Grésivaudan valley.
The climb is quite steep, but the reward of superb views is well worth it!
You will pass through Les Molinières and La Pérérée without crossing them, then cross Les Combes and the Combeloup National Forest before reaching Pressembois.
All these places are charming and the trails are bucolic!
Crossing the Montagne des Quatre Seigneurs
There are countless route options in this forested area on the outskirts of the Grenoble conurbation, delighting both walkers and mountain bikers alike. The advantage of this route, linking the village of Saint-Martin-d’Uriage to Eybens, is that it offers varied views, first of the Belledonne massif and then of the “capital of the Alps”, dominated by the Vercors and the Chartreuse.
Circular Revel via Mongiron
A short hike with beautiful views of the Chartreuse, Vercors and Belledonne mountains, starting from the church in Revel and alternating between forest trails and hamlets.
Best done in the afternoon or evening to avoid being dazzled by the morning sun on Belledonne.
On the heights of Herbeys
A leisurely stroll in the hills above Herbeys with a magnificent view of the Vercors.
The Batteries Hautes circular loop
The advantage of Grenoble is that just 15 minutes from the city centre, you can go for a hike in the low mountains. Here’s a short circular route to get fit before spring, or a family walk to get up high and enjoy the views.
Fontaine Ardente - the flaming fountain
A short hike to enjoy this geological feature: a flaming fountain.
From Corenc to the Col de Vence
An easy walk just a stone’s throw from Grenoble. Or how to go from an urban suburb to a quiet, peaceful rural area that you would never have imagined could be so close to a city.
Molettes to Pleurey circular loop
An easy walk, mostly on a path. The hike can be done on foot or by bike. You can start much lower down in Revel, either from the village or from an intermediate point.
Mont Jalla via the Col de Vence, La Bastille and La Vierge Noire
A pleasant mountain bike ride (with or without e-bike), via the Col de Vence, Mont Jalla, Les Clémencieres, La Bastille, and back via La Vierge Noire
From Granges Freydiere to the Cabane du Grand Colon
A lovely snowshoe walk in Belledonne with no major difficulties, a steady climb up to the hut through pretty forests.
Circular Herbeys loop to the 4 Seigneurs, returning via the Crêtes d'Herbeys
This is a lovely walk, offering a number of views of the Vercors, some of the Matheysin mountains, the Chartreuse in autumn and Belledonne. The village of Villeneuve is also very charming.
The climb is manageable, though the descent is quite steep.
The Saint Eynard ridge and the Pré du Plat
A short and easy walk on the ridge of Mont-Saint-Eynard, above Grenoble, offering beautiful panoramic views of the city, the Belledonne mountain range and, at the end, the Sappey valley. This walk is a local classic and can be very busy.
Loop of the Cascade de l'Oursière and the Belledonne Sud lakes
This magnificent loop trail starts at the Gâte car park and climbs through the woods to the viewpoint of the impressive and beautiful Cascade de l'Oursière waterfall, then follows the Ruisseau du Doménon stream through a welcoming grassy valley, ideal for a short rest before tackling the climb up a scree slope. At the top, you will find the stream again, which flows peacefully through an alpine meadow in a picture-postcard setting. Once you have crossed a valley, you will discover the charming Lac Merlat in a high mountain atmosphere. Take a short detour to the Refuge de la Pra before continuing on to admire the series of superb lakes: Claret, Longet, Bernard and Léama. After crossing a few rocky outcrops, you come to a cute little lake and then the three Robert Lakes at the foot of the Croix de Chamrousse. The descent from the Brèche Robert Nord leads to the Lac des Pourettes in a marshy basin and finally a passage through the forest brings you back to the car park.
Lacs Robert via L'Oursière
This is a magnificent circuit in the Belledonne massif that will take you to the shores of the Robert lakes, a site well known to skiers who visit the Chamrousse resort.
The difficulty is not technical, but should be taken into account due to the steep slopes in places and the particular nature of this mountain range, which is often shrouded in fog.
The David Lake circular route via the Oursière Waterfall
This very pretty circular loop up to Lac David via the Cascade de l'Oursière allows you to first enjoy the various Pra lakes (Bernard, Longet, Claret) and then make a beautiful traverse under the Jasse Bralard peaks. Throughout the traverse, you can enjoy a magnificent view overlooking the city of Grenoble below.
Lake Claret via the Oursière Waterfall
A beautiful hike that climbs up to Lac Claret via the impressive Cascade de l'Ousrière waterfall and Lacs Bernard and Longet.
It offers a beautiful overview of the Lacs de la Pra, accompanied by a superb view of a large part of the peaks of the Belledonne massif.
However, it is quite a long hike.
Lakes of La Pra
This hike takes you to a series of lakes set like precious stones along the path from the Oursière waterfalls to the Col de la Pra, between wave-cut rocks and alpine flora.
This route, which is partly off-trail, is particularly treacherous: there is no way to keep to a schedule, as the fascinating landscapes compel you to linger and contemplate.
A small part of the route is off-trail but there are no difficulties with orientation.
The Fort of Montavie
On the outskirts of the capital of the Alps, a circular route starting from Eybens provides access to the Fort de Montavie overlooking Grenoble. This is more of a walk than a hike, offering remarkable views of the three mountain ranges surrounding the Drac and Isère valleys: Belledonne, Chartreuse and Vercors.
Belvédères des Civières and Gourlu viewpoints from Eybens
This circular route takes you around the Quatre Seigneurs hill, offering a variety of breathtaking views of the nearby city of Grenoble and the Grésivaudan valley.
Loop via Lac du Crozet, Grande Sitre and the Refuge du Pré du Molard
This hike takes you on a loop around Lake Crozet, covering several types of terrain (scree, a mountain pass, forest, lakes). It does not present any significant technical difficulties (climbing, exposed passages), but there are some sections in full sun and a few steep slopes.
Mont Rachais and the Quichat batteries from the Col de Vence
Starting from the Col de Vence, climb to Mont Rachais via the ridge after a detour via the Quichat batteries and return to the pass.
Col de la Pra and Grand Colon from the Quatres Chemins car park
Hiking with lakes and streams in the Belledonne mountains, parking thirty minutes from Grenoble.Important note: please take into account the opinions of hikers on this outing. These opinions can be found at the bottom of the page in the Comments and Discussions section.
Mont Rachais from the Vence Pass
Easy access to Mont Rachais. View over Chartreuse, Belledonne, Grenoble and the Vercors.
The Bastille and Mont Jalla, from the city to the mountains
Grenoble, capital of the Alps, is well known. Climbing 400 metres from the centre of the city reputed to be the flattest in France is less common. We suggest a slightly challenging walk to the military memorial on Mont Jalla and, on the way back, discovering the "380 steps".
Pic du Grand Domènon and Grande Lauzière via Lacs du Bois and Lac du Bœuf
A stunning hike that allows you to discover two gems of the Belledonne massif that are almost never visited: the Lac du Bois and Lac du Bœuf are little jewels off the beaten track of the massif. The Pic du Grand Domènon, the highest point of the walk, is a magnificent viewpoint that is much less visited than the Croix de Belledonne, offering views of the Bauges, Mont Blanc, the Grandes Rousses, the Oisans, the Dévoluy, the Taillefer, the Vercors and the Chartreuse and, of course, Belledonne and its lakes.
Please note: this hike is on the borderline between very difficult and extremely difficult.
A circular loop along the towpath in Grenoble
From the city centre (where you can take your time exploring as you please), head out to the banks of the Isère for a short, entirely flat circular walk along the towpath – either on the embankment if the riverbanks are wet, or on the dirt track closer to the river if it is dry enough. Wide views of Belledonne, which may be snow-capped, depending on the season.
Lac du Crozet
A pretty lake in a rocky landscape, overlooking the Grésivaudan valley. From the lake, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Chartreuse mountains.
Le Grand Colon
A fairly short hike starting from the Baraque des Carriers car park, but very interesting and moderately difficult, with a beautiful view from the summit. A lovely moment shared at the summit with a ibex.
Around the Tour d'Arces
A gentle walk along paths that seem to have been forgotten by everyone, with some lovely surprises. Several circular loops are possible in the area without the risk of getting lost. If you have children, take care: there are sometimes tricky or even dangerous sections, but if you take reasonable care, there is no reason to miss out on this lovely circular loop.
Fort du Saint-Eynard from the Col de Vence
A classic hike from the Col de Vence to the Fort du Saint-Eynard.
The entire route follows theGR®9trail, with no difficulty in finding your way. Wide panoramic view from the summit.
Crossing the Grande Lance de Domène
The ascent to the Col de la Pra follows the very busy path to the Refuge de la Pra. From the pass just before the refuge, the path leads towards the Doménon lakes. It joins the spillway of the first lake, the start of this traverse.Although strenuous, the ascent up the western slope, which is well marked with paint and cairns, presents no technical difficulties or exposed sections. The descent down the eastern slope is not as easy to follow, but the route remains clear. The return journey follows the shores of Lac du Grand Doménon and then Lac du Petit Doménon to rejoin the outbound path.
Circular Grande Lance de Domène route via the Col des Lances and Lac du Loup
A circuit and ascent to Belledonne’s finest viewpoint, amidst the ibex. Climbing the Grande Lance de Domène is straightforward, but the return via the Col des Lances requires an ice axe and crampons in all seasons, and the very steep scree on the north face invariably turns the hiker into a left-turning dahu.
Between the Col des Lances and Lac du Loup, the Glacier de la Sitre and its lake form one of the wildest landscapes in the range, where you may encounter eagles and chamois.
Lacs du Bâton and Lac du Bœuf from Freydières
This is a very wild hike, half of which takes place in valleys completely off the beaten track, exploring the playground of the chamois, mouflons and ibex that abound in Belledonne.
The lakes of Bâton and Bœuf, nestled in the rounded rocks opposite the peaks of Oisans, are the highlights of the hike.
Eybens - Vizille
A special hike organised as part of both the Grenoble-Vizille half marathon and the hike itself.
Mont Rachais via La Bastille and Mont Jalla, returning via La Tronche
A “Town-to-Mountain” hike that takes you from the banks of the Isère to the summit of Mont Rachais. At 1,046 metres, its ridge overlooks the eastern part of the Grenoble conurbation, the Haut-Grésivaudan and the Belledonne range.
En route, you can visit the fortifications of the Bastille and the memorial to the Alpine troops on Mont Jalla.
No particular difficulty (apart from the cumulative elevation gain of around 900m) and as this slope is well exposed, the route can be tackled in winter as the snow melts very quickly there.
The Crête du Saint-Eynard
This circuit runs along the Saint-Eynard ridge and offers a bird's eye view of the Grésivaudan valley and Grenoble.
Mont Saint-Eynard via Rocher du Bret
A fairly short but steep circular route up the little-known Rocher du Bret ridge. At the summit, you will be rewarded with a 360° panorama of the southern Chartreuse, Belledonne, the Grenoble conurbation and the Vercors. The return journey is more conventional, passing by the Batteries du Saint-Eynard, which offer some more beautiful views.
Lac Blanc from the Col de Pré Long
Lac Blanc is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the Belledonne massif with its turquoise colour. This hike offers the best of Belledonne: forests, torrents, scree slopes, mountain pastures and mineral landscapes. The beauty of the landscapes along the route makes up for the somewhat strenuous climb.
Jean small pass Refuge
This is a beautiful hike in the Belledonne Massif, where you can admire beautiful waterfalls, explore a wild valley and get close to the last glacier in the massif. The view from the refuge overlooks the Grésivaudan valley, from the Chartreuse massif to the Vercors massif.
Grenoble City Centre
A short walk taking in various historical sites in Grenoble. Very easy and accessible, the route allows you to discover the historic centre and the squares that have marked Grenoble. With numerous cafés along the route, allow more than just walking time.
Manival - Côte Bonne
Footprints in the snow for this walk, which can be enjoyed in the summer sun or in the shade of oak and fir trees...
Ascent to the Bastille de Grenoble from the west
The city has developed the western ascent of the Bastille, which is little known except to a few runners. This ascent is accessible via the Route de Clémencières. The proposed descent takes you back to the Jardin des Dauphins, but you can take another usual route (Fontaine du Lion or Porte Saint-Laurent, or even the Grenoble cable car, nicknamed "les Bulles").The slope is quite steep but safe. You will pass by some unusual views of the valley and the Grottes de Mandrin, a defensive structure of the Bastille's glacis. This hike should not be attempted in rainy weather or up to 24 hours afterwards, as the ground is slippery. The return trip is not recommended.
The Robert Lakes
A hike to the Robert Lakes, a little wilder than those starting from Chamrousse Ski Resort.
Between (7) and (8), the descent via the ski runs is a bit challenging; it can be replaced by a long circular loop that passes by Lac des Vallons.
Mont Rachais from Grenoble circular route
A beautiful, physically demanding route in the hills above Grenoble with impressive views.
Quite a long route, with the possibility of running on several sections. Be careful, however, as the route on the La Tronche side is a bit chaotic.
New Bastille trail via Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux
A path leading to the Bastille de Grenoble was built in 2025. From the houses of Saint-Martin-Le-Vinoux, you can quickly reach the woods, where the route winds between oak trees and small scree slopes. The work has made the path easier and more user-friendly, but the climb remains challenging. At the Fort, admire the panoramic view of the Belledonne, Vercors and Chartreuse mountain ranges. Descend towards Porte de France and Parc Guy Pape.

Mont Rachais from Lachal
Mont-Rachais from Lachal, passing at the foot of the rocky outcrops to rejoin theGR®9.

This hike takes you to the top of the Sappey ridges, where you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views (the Belledonne mountain range, Dent de Crolles, Saint-Hugues, Chamechaude and the series of ridges).
On 28/12/18, I modified the route between the new points (1) and (2) to take into account the 2018 logging operation that destroyed the previous hiking trail (shown as a dotted line on the map).
Mont Rachais
Mont-Rachais from Lévetière. Return via Mont-Jalla.
View of the Chartreuse, Belledonne, Vercors and Mont Blanc if the weather is clear enough.

From Lévetière to Mont Jalla
Views of the Chartreuse, the Vercors, Grenoble, the Isère, the Drac, Belledonne and Mont Blanc.
L'Écoutoux
This small peak in the forest above Sappey-en-Chartreuse makes for a very pleasant outing in the forest. There are few views, except from the summit, which offers a beautiful panorama of the Belledonne massif, Chamechaude and the Dent de Crolles.
The Lakes of Chamrousse and the Grand Van
We're going to walk on the ocean!
Or how to tour a ski resort without seeing the slopes, but with a few beautiful lakes and a summit that is much more impressive than the famous Croix de Chamrousse.
The Robert Lakes
An exceptional hike leading to the wonderful Robert Lakes starting from the Chamrousse resort.
Beware of late snowfields

A hike to Robert Lakes in Belledonne, which requires a good sense of direction and experience of walking off-trail. At the start of the season, a slightly steep section requires the use of crampons if there is still snow.
Lacs Robert from Le Recoin
From Le Recoin, there are easy routes to visit the Robert Lakes. This description deviates slightly from the most commonly used trails, particularly from the Brèche Sud to reach Lac des Pourettes.

La Pointe de la Sitre
This is a beautiful hike that climbs to Pointe de la Sitre and makes a detour to the lake of the same name.

This hike is not particularly difficult, except perhaps for the slopes, which can be steep in places.

A magnificent hike combining forest and low mountains, flora and fauna.
Brié and Angonnes/Villeneuve d'Uriage/Romage circular loop
A circular walk that passes through the Herbeys ridges and offers a splendid view of the start of the Belledonne range and Uriage Castle. You then pass through the Bois du Fournet above the Uriage valley and catch sight of the Dent de Crolles and Chamechaude. Return via the Montagne du Mulet and rejoin the Herbeys ridges.
From Brié to Montchaboud via the Vaulnaveys plain, returning via Bois du Crêt
I recommend this hike as the perfect option for the winter months when snow prevents us from heading to higher altitudes. Located on the outskirts of Grenoble and accessible by public transport, this route will take you through the villages of the Grenoble metropolitan area and offer some views of the surrounding mountains.
Circular Brié in Vaulnaveys-le-Haut

Visit the Haut-Bernin on a gentle walk at the foot of the Chartreuse cliff. You can contemplate a cumulative altitude of 9845m which is more than the Everest, with le Mont-Blanc (4806m), le Grand Pic de Belledonne (2977m) and la Dent de Crolles (2062m). You will meet lots of dog walkers and you will walk through forests, vineyards, and pass beehives.
From the Frange Verte to the Hauts de Jarrie, return via the Voie Romaine
The Grenoble metropolitan area has developed a Frange Verte (Green Belt) to the south, bringing together several walking trails that are popular with everyone and offer views of the mountains.
This route takes you along the Frange Verte in Échirolles, up the Combe de la Gouderie to the Étang de Jarrie-Le-Haut, then down the Voie Romaine, which no longer exists today.
The route is classified as easy, although the climb up the Gouderie may put some people off. Fortunately, it is relatively short.
Chamrousse - Refuge de la Pra
Well known to Grenoble residents, this hike offers superb views of all the surrounding mountains, including Chartreuse, Vercors, Grandes Rousses, Taillefer and Belledonne. As soon as you arrive at the top of the cable car, your gaze is drawn to La Meije, which looks so close.⚠️ This hike can only be done on foot from 30 June to 1 October ⚠️
Croix de Chamrousse - Refuge de la Pra
An easy hike to start your Belledone traverse gently. No fewer than four lakes dot the route, most of which are suitable for swimming and/or a nap. This description treats the hike as a one-way trip, but a day trip (there and back) is also possible.A more challenging alternative is available; see here

Around the Arselle snowshoe trails
This hike leaves the traditional, well-travelled tracks of the Arselle plateau to follow the domain's snowshoe trails and discover the steep, unmarked paths of the Lauze forest or along the cliffs of the Rocher de l'Homme. A wild landscape and magnificent views of the Romanche valley. The hike ends with a large loop in the Séchilienne forest to recover from your efforts. (Please read the practical information).

Le Grand Sorbier via the Arselle plateau
On the outskirts of Grenoble, Belledonne is a mountain range easily accessible for a day’s hike, offering all altitudes and numerous lakes. The Grand Sorbier, situated near the Chamrousse resort, overlooks the Romanche Valley from 1,800 m and, beyond that, looks out over the Grandes Rousses and the Alps. The first part of the route, which is very popular, starts at the Plateau d’Arselle, the cross-country skiing area of Chamrousse, and leads to the magnificent Lac Achard in the heart of a protected area. The second part, less frequented, leads to the Lacs Robert via the Col de l’Infernet and the Col de la Botte, an area favoured by ibex. The final section, secluded and off the beaten track, winds through a rocky scree landscape where the difficult and tiring climb is rewarded by the magnificent view from the summit of the Grand Sorbier.

The route includes a few fun climbs and descents, a very short off-trail section, a breach through a cliff, a spectacular couloir and an aerial sangle overlooking numerous chamois, a guaranteed spectacle for anyone aiming to reach the summit before midday.
The route is far from the summer and Sunday crowds.
Chamechaude circular via the Arche, the Rampe de l'Écureuil and the Canyon
This circular aims to offer alternatives to the very busy normal route, allowing you to discover lesser-known aspects of Chamechaude, the highest point in the Chartreuse. Without being as technical as the Arnaud breach or as exposed as the Sangle du Jardin, this route is off the beaten track: it therefore sometimes requires a sense of direction and certain (short) steep passages require effort and attention.
