Park in the car park at the Étang de Haute Jarrie.
The paths through the Haute-Jarrie Forest are well signposted with numerous information boards.
(S/E) Cross the road to enjoy the viewing points and educational panels at the Étang de Haute Jarrie. Start the circular route by walking alongside the pond and its reed bed. Continue to the end of the pond and the dead-end road leading to Château-Neuf.
(1) Turn left opposite thePR®® sign and walk along Champ Courbat. Pass a path branching off to your left and reach a Fork in the road.
(2) Here too, there are two options:
- either turn right to reach the Combe de la Gouderie crossroads directly,
- or carry on straight ahead – this is the route taken – to reach a multi-way junction marked by the ‘La Carrière’ sign.
(3) Gently make your way up the wide forest lane branching off to the right. You’ll soon reach the ‘La Traverse’ sign; carry on straight ahead, ignoring the two paths branching off to the right and left respectively. You’ll reach the Frettes crossroads.
(4) Carry on straight ahead, ignoring the paths branching off to the right and left. You’ll reach the ‘du Temple’ crossroads.
Note: to shorten the walk, you can turn right, which leads directly to the Combe de la Gouderie crossroads.
(5) Turn right and carry on through the woods; at the ‘La Chevauchée’ sign, keep to the left to reach the Combe de la Gouderie crossroads.
(6) Continue straight on until you reach the ‘Plassoney’ sign; here, join the tarmac road which climbs up to the Haute Jarrie mast, visible above the trees on the left.
Turn right to head back down towards the lake; on this stretch, enjoy a beautiful view of the Belledonne range to your left.
At the roundabout, turn right. Please note: you’ll be walking alongside the C3 local road for a few metres – this can be busy – before reaching the car park at the Haute-Jarrie pond (S/E).
