Lake Claret via the Oursière Waterfall

A beautiful hike that climbs up to Lac Claret via the impressive Cascade de l'Ousrière waterfall and Lacs Bernard and Longet.
It offers a beautiful overview of the Lacs de la Pra, accompanied by a superb view of a large part of the peaks of the Belledonne massif.
However, it is quite a long hike.

Description of the walk

The car park is located on the road leading up to Chamrousse from Saint-Martin-d'Uriage, just over a kilometre after the hamlet of Les Seiglières before a hairpin bend. The entrance is fairly easy to find.

(S/E) The hike begins on a fairly wide forest path, which you follow for a while.

(1) A few hundred metres after leaving the car park, you will come to a crossroads. Continue on the main road (bottom left).

(2) When you reach a fairly open space, a road branches off to the bottom left. Continue along the main path, which climbs up to the right.
Continue along this path until you reach the Cascade l'Oursière waterfall.

(3) After about 3km and a 400m climb (be warned, it's quite steep!), you will arrive at the famous Cascade de l'Oursière. This magnificent and imposing waterfall is about 80m high. It's a great place to cool off during the climb when the weather is hot.
Then continue along the path that climbs to the Plateau de l'Oursière, which is about 100 metres higher.

(4) When you reach a crossroads, continue straight ahead towards the bottom of the plateau (the climb on the right leads to the Lacs Robert).

(5) After reaching the very hilly plateau of the Lacs de la Pra, climb to the right towards Lac Bernard and then Lac Longet.

(6) At Lac Longet, head left towards Lac Claret, which is only a 5-10 minute walk away.

(7) Arrive at Lac Claret, overlooked by La Grande Lauzière at an altitude of 1,741 metres.
After resting and enjoying the view, descend via the path that leads down to the left into the valley below Lac Claret.
Rejoin the path you took on the way up after crossing the Doménon torrent.

(5) From here, simply follow the path you took on the way up, but in the opposite direction this time, to return to the car park (S/E).

Solo hike completed without any problems = signage OK, explanations OK, no technical difficulties.
This outing was wonderful because it was accompanied by water all along the way: Doménon and lakes.
It's worth noting that once you reach Lake Claret, it's worth adding 15-20 minutes to go to Lake Merlat and then cutting back down to rejoin the route.
There were few people on the plateau because the weather was overcast, but I think that in good weather, there are many trail runners, hikers and campers.
13.5 km, 970 m elevation gain.
Thank you very much for this route.

A very beautiful hike, classified as fairly difficult. The climb up to the waterfall is pleasant with magnificent views of the Grenoble valley.

Superb hike, starting and ending in the shade... magical plateau... rocky terrain, but well worth the detour...

A beautiful route that starts in the forest, passes through a lovely valley full of flowers, and ends in the rockier terrain of the hills.

Not too crowded, even on this Sunday in August. There are a few people between the waterfall and the Oursière plateau, but the rest of the hike is not too busy. The three lakes are magnificent.

Advantage: very easy access by road (no narrow roads where it's difficult to pass other vehicles, as is often the case in the mountains! )

I did this hike, which was easy to follow and well marked. At the end, I headed towards Lake Merlat and then to the refuge, and I camped between Lake Claret and Lake Longet (because now there are areas where camping is prohibited
and the next day I went back up to the refuge via the Croix de Belledonne, which is also clearly marked.

Superb and varied landscapes, lakes, torrents, waterfalls, streams. Suggestion: climb up to the refuge, which is located in a beautiful setting, and continue on to Lake Merlat. Be careful, crossing the fords was not always easy because of the high water flow; we even had to take off our shoes for one of them. The trail to Lake Bernard is not easy to find, but the GPS was a great help. The return journey is hard on the knees, especially the 300-metre descent over scree.

Fantastic hike!
Breathtaking scenery, with splendid colours at this time of year: red blueberry bushes, yellow and green meadows, rocks, sunshine and blue skies blending with the green of the lakes – truly magnificent! The view of the surrounding peaks is fabulous.
The route and descriptions are perfect, everything is marked (mostly in yellow).
One of our favourites
A good elevation gain and I recommend poles for the descent.

A beautiful hike that climbs up to Lac Claret via the impressive Cascade de l'Ousrière waterfall and the Bernard and Longet lakes.
It offers a beautiful overview of the Pra Lakes, accompanied by superb views of most of the peaks in the Belledonne massif.
It's quite a long hike, but the landscape is varied and magnificent. Allow at least 6½ hours.

Superb hike in beautiful weather.
Direct climb to the LA PRA refuge, then descent via the Claret, Longet Bernard, Leama and finally Roberts lakes to return to L'Oursière. All in 8 hours with my teenagers.
