The start of this hike is located very close to the medieval castle of Bonrepos in a place called Les Chaberts in the commune of Jarrie. For parking, try to find a space at the start of the path leading to the castle (small car park for 3 or 4 vehicles) or in one of the nearby hamlets.
(S/E) From the car park, walk a few metres up the road, turn right and continue for about 400 metres until you reach the end of the tarmac road, which gives way to a path.
(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto the path that goes downhill (signposted Montchaboud) to the hamlet of La Combe.
(2) At the intersection, continue left, following the same signs.
The path continues almost horizontally and, after about 400 metres, enters the woods and climbs slightly. Continue straight ahead until you reach a small path that climbs to the right and continue to a place called La Croix de la Vue (there is a cross here). The path overlooks the Romanche valley.
(3) A few metres further on, take the path on the left, which continues to climb up to the village of Montchaboud. Pass in front of the wash house.
(4) When you reach the crossroads, take the path on the left. Ignore the path on the left and continue climbing slightly.
:5:: After about 400 m, turn left again.
A little further on, the path begins a fairly steep descent, which is sometimes muddy and therefore slippery.
(6) At the crossroads before leaving the woods, change direction and turn right. Go up a short steep slope, then the path continues horizontally before descending again. Leave the forest and you will reach the hamlet of Mont Rolland.
(7) At the entrance to the hamlet, turn left (sign) and continue along the road until you reach an intersection with a riding club on your right and a reservoir on your left.
(8) Turn left, walk past a small cemetery overlooked by a chapel and arrive at a farm.
(9) Turn left onto the path that climbs slightly and then descends. You will then reach the uphill path.
(1) Turn right and return to the starting point (S/E).
A beautiful route with no difficulties apart from the short steep climb at point 6, which is not as challenging as the rest. Nothing else to report, as there was a group of hikers on this route
