Start from the Granges Freydière car park.
(S/E) Head back towards the restaurant and follow the track to the right, ignoring the direction of the lake.
(1) Continue straight ahead on the track leading to the 4 Chemins car park.
(2) Take the track slightly to the right (southwards) which climbs steadily for about 2 km.
(3) Ignore a path branching off to the left (return route), continue to the Baraque des Carriers and go past it by about a hundred metres.
(4) Take the small path on the left which climbs quite steeply in hairpin bends and passes back over the hut. Join a wide track.
(5) Ignore the track and continue the climb along the path, which winds its way up in numerous hairpin bends.
(6) You’ll emerge onto a steep, open area; head down the slope towards the Cabane du Grand Colon just above. Please respect the black grouse quiet zone and keep your distance to protect them.
(7) Head back down the same switchbacks until you reach the wide track.
(5) Follow it to the right. This turns into a clear path that descends steeply.
(3) Return to the track taken on the way up and follow it back to Granges Freydière (S/E).
