Description of the walk

Start: Eybens church square.
(S) Head east then south on the D269c (Route de Bresson), leave it at the first junction to turn left into the lane (yellow markings); this quickly turns into a path leading to the hamlet of Le Flandru.

(1) Before reaching this, head down to the right to rejoin the D269c, cross through Bresson, cut through the castle grounds to reach the track leading into the forest at the reservoir.

(2) Follow thisPR®® (yellow) marked track across the Bresson Golf Course to reach the Plâtre junction.

(3) Take the lane on the left, cross the La Garoudière district and continue to Jarrie Castle.

(4) Take the path on the left leading to the neighbourhoods of La Combe and then Les Chaberts.

(5) Enter the Bois de Bouchassey and follow a wide path (still marked yellow) to reach the Croix de la Vue crossroads.

(6) Pass the path on your right that descends directly to Vizille; take the one on the left towards Montchaboud (signposted).

(7) On leaving Montchaboud, take the narrow lane to the left then right, which leads to the Résidence du Cray, then the path that follows it and leads onto the D5 (the road from Grenoble to Vizille via Brié Angonnes).

(8) Turn right and proceed with great care for 500m to join the Bois des Enversins path.

(9) Turn left onto this path and head towards Vizille.

(10) Stay on the road to finish at the castle (E).
Return to the starting point by car.

Notes

There are a few water points in the villages along the route.
Note:
This hike, part of the Grenoble-Vizille half-marathon, is organised every year by the event’s volunteers.
Now in its second year, this half-marathon aims to become a major event in this large urban area in the Isère region. Success is undoubtedly on the cards, as this year 1,000 walkers completed the 15km trail. A small figure compared to the 3,500 marathon runners.

Worth a visit

There’s a rather dangerous and uninteresting stretch of the D5. Try to find a shortcut through the fields to cut down on the time spent on this road

A pleasant but fairly long walk – 18 km. In places, we struggled to find the path.

I went on this walk as part of the Eybens–Vizille route. The atmosphere was really friendly and the difficulty level was just right – I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a walk that’s half trail and half tarmac.

This hike took place as part of the Grenoble–Vizille half-marathon in a very friendly atmosphere. For those planning to do this hike outside the organised event, it’s worth noting that getting back to the starting point is fairly easy using the Grenoble urban bus network (TAG).
A new hike (Eybens–Vizille) is planned for 5 April 2015, likely with a different route but the same start and finish points, with refreshments provided along the way and at the finish. More information is available on the grenoble-vizille.fr website.
