Pré Gaudet circular near Chamrousse

A short, gentle snowshoe walk to do after a good fall of fresh snow.
The first part is almost flat and leads to the Refuge de Pré-Gaudet. Then the path climbs a little before descending into the undergrowth alongside a small stream.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the left of the D111 road, which serves Chamrousse from Vaulnaveys-le-Haut, before the circular road at Baraque de Boulac

(S/E) Take the small path below the car park to avoid the forest road to the hut, which is wider but busier. Pass by small frozen waterfalls as you walk along the mountain.

(1) Continue and pass a final valley. The path branches off to the left. Join the Rouast forest road.

(2) Take it on the left and begin an easy descent to reach Pré Gaudet and the Gaudet Forest Chalet with its grove of fir trees.

(3) Go around it, then take the path again and veer left to start climbing. Reach the Fontaine de la Rebellière. Continue climbing, cross the Ruisseau de Rioupéroux and then reach the GR®549 crossroads, the highest point of the route.

(4) Turn right and descend to reach the Baraque de Boulac, continue for a few metres to
return to the car park at the side of the road (S/E).

Fresh snow.
Start from the small path below the car park 100 m just before the Cabane de Boulac (do not take the car park in the circular route but the one just before, going uphill).

A pleasant walk in the forest on well-packed snow. However, it is not easy to follow the route as there are very few markings and many crossroads.

A short, easy walk in the snow (well-trodden path), perfect for filling two hours.
The walking time is greatly overestimated; 1½ hours is more than enough!
You can extend the walk a little by starting from Arselle or Recoin, where there are signposted snowshoe trails.
