Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. A challenging but accessible hike in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura for lovers of wide open spaces. From the village of Échenevex, the trail crosses meadows and woods before beginning the ascent to the Col de Branveau. Here you can often see friendly chamois and heifers grazing in the mountain pastures, enjoying the beautiful weather and the breathtaking panorama of the Jura ridges. The climb continues to the summit of Mont Chanais at 1,446 metres, where a 360° view rewards walkers for their efforts. From here, you can admire Mont Blanc, the Alps and the valley below, before descending this route in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura.

An easy walk centred on the Journans and its ‘little brother’, the Petit Journans. Born from the torrential streams of the Creux de l’Envers valley, the Journans rushes down the slopes of the Jura. It then flows through the northern part of the Pays de Gex before joining the Lion in the commune of Saint-Genis-Pouilly. This circular route largely follows the river’s course but also takes in the surrounding countryside.

An easy walk on the edge of the nature reserve. There are several vantage points along the route, particularly offering views of Mont Blanc, Lake Geneva and the Lake Geneva basin. You’ll see dinosaur footprints. Depending on the season, you may also see a small stream, the Crotte.

Hike accessible from 17 April to 30 November. Set off on a hike to Colomby de Gex (1,682 metres above sea level), with superb views of Mont Blanc and the Geneva basin. This circuit, emblematic of the Grande Marche Populaire de Gex, follows the ridges of the Haute Chaîne before descending into the forest along the Journans. The route passes through varied landscapes: mountain pastures, deciduous and coniferous forests. It runs through the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and, in part, the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve, a protected area that must be treated with respect. Dogs are not allowed, even on a lead. Please respect the regulations in force to preserve this remarkable environment.

Hike accessible from 16 May to 30 November. Set off from Gex on a loop to the Col de Branveau, passing through the Platières mountain pastures. Formerly part of the Petite Marche Populaire de Gex, this varied circuit offers beautiful views of the Haute Chaîne du Jura and the Alps. It passes through forests of deciduous and coniferous trees before a refreshing descent along the Journans. An accessible and enjoyable hike between ridges, mountain pastures and undergrowth.Part of the route is located in the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve: dogs are not permitted, even on a lead. Walk in the woods of Versoix. Very pleasant in the undergrowth and on the galloping tracks.

Partly running alongside the River Journans, the path passes through the canyon of the mysterious Portes Sarrazines. This trail, with its lush and varied landscapes, is situated in a protected area. This pleasant walk, accessible from April to November, follows the course of the River Journans. The ‘Au fil du bois’ interpretive trail highlights human activities linked to the forest and water. Finally, the Portes Sarrazines, which frame a gorge carved out by the river, take their name from a local legend: the inhabitants of Gex are said to have taken refuge behind these stone gates during Saracen invasions in the Middle Ages. The route offers a variety of landscapes, alternating between forest paths, roads and steeper sections. Access is restricted; dogs are not permitted within the Reserve.

In summer, you can stick to the forest track a little less and head closer to the banks of the Grand Journans to seek shelter under the trees.

This accessible, family-friendly hike through forests and panoramic views offers a splendid 360° view of both the Alps and the Jura from Mont Mourex. The trail passes through a pleasant forest before reaching the open heights, offering an exceptional panorama of the Alps and the Jura. A landscape information table allows you to identify the surrounding peaks. An intriguing circle of stones, approximately 45 metres in diameter, is believed to have been used for sun worship. In its centre is a block of stone that is thought to have been deposited there by the Rhône glaciers during an ice age. It adds to the enigmatic nature of the place. The descent is gentle, through meadows.

Much of the walk takes place in the coolness of the forest and the Versoix river, ideal for hot summer days. When you leave the woods, in good weather, there are magnificent views of the Jura mountain range (the Aiguille de la Faucille and the Boule Blanc de la Dole are easily recognisable) and the Alps (Mont Blanc).

The walk is so named because part of it was laid out by the military engineering corps to provide a link in the country’s defence system prior to theSecond World War. This circular route runs mainly through woodland, which provides shade in summer, and offers a few views over Lake Geneva and the Alps. The route follows unmarked tracks and paths, with a few steep sections and a short stretch across a path in poor condition. It is accessible outside the snow season.

A perfect forest walk for families, combining discovery, observation and learning about nature. A special moment to share, filled with curiosity, relaxation and wonder in the heart of the woods. This 2.5 km circular themed trail (106 m elevation gain) crosses the forest alongside downhill mountain bike trails — watch out for cyclists! Easy and enjoyable, it is dotted with information panels about the Eurasian lynx, making for an informative and fun outing for the whole family.

From Crozet, I suggest gaining some height in the Jura Mountains by heading up to Colomby de Gex. The lower part of the route is mainly through woodland, whilst the upper section is across mountain pastures with lovely views. Please note that the approach to the Pas de l’Échine, in an alpine setting, requires a degree of caution.

A challenging approach to a summit offering a 360° view of Lake Geneva, the Alps and the Jura. The Pas de L'Échine, a tricky and steep but very popular passage, provides direct access to the ridge in a beautiful setting. The best time to visit is in May, when it is still partially snow-covered and you have to squeeze between the snow and the rock face. However, it is strongly advised not to venture onto the nearby slopes, which are very exposed.

This walk offers stunning views of Lake Geneva and the Alps in the first part, followed by views of the Jura Mountains. You can also start from the Catheline cable car.

Only accessible from 16 May to 30 November. Subject to snow conditions. From the ridges, enjoy panoramic views of Lake Geneva and the Alps before descending into the Branveau cirque. This route on the Haute Chaîne du Jura promises an immersion in an unusual, wild and unspoilt setting. After reaching the Crozat mountain pasture, then the summit of Colomby de Gex at 1,688 metres, the descent begins via the Branveau cirque before reaching the Platières chalet. The varied and sometimes technical trail is marked with yellow markers. The Colomby de Gex pylon was originally built in Paris, then transported and erected in Gex in 1907. A memorial commemorates Fernand Fluckiger, a Swiss aviator who died in a plane crash on 2 June 1932 at this site.

Hiking on the lower Jura mountains, on wide paths through fields and forests, connecting the heart of two villages in the Pays de Gex, partly following an ancient Roman road. Throughout the hike, you will see old buildings (Gex farms, castle, churches), views of the Pays de Gex plain, and further afield, the Salève, the Alps and Mont Blanc in particular. This route can also be done by mountain bike.

Open from 1 December to 30 March. A marked trail along the ridges, where you can admire a magnificent panorama of Mont Blanc, the Alps and the Lake Geneva basin, Geneva and its water jet, and the Hautes-Combes du Jura on the other side, before descending back to the heart of the resort.The departure point is at the top of the Montrond Télécombi.

Open from 15 December to 30 March. Put on your snowshoes and set off to explore the famous Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura mountains, offering spectacular scenery! The trail is marked with purple posts for snowshoeing. This route can be accessed by taking the Fierney cable car and the Télécombi des Bergers from Crozet.

The main feature of this walk is the River Versoix. 22 km long, it rises in the hills above Divonne-les-Bains, where it is known as the Divonne, before becoming the Versoix once it enters Swiss territory. For many kilometres, its course forms the border between the two countries. Further on, in the commune of Versoix, it flows into Lake Geneva. As well as the Versoix, this walk offers numerous views of the Jura and Alpine ranges.

An enchanting route along the ridges overlooking Lake Geneva. Start from Lélex, then take the Catheline cable car; fare: €9 in summer 2021 (open in season from Thursday to Sunday). This allows you to avoid the climb if you don’t want to tire yourself out too much. A ridge walk with little elevation gain and continuous panoramic views.

Open in July and August - during the Catheline cable car operating hours The trail follows the ridges and allows you to fully appreciate the geology and exceptional flora of the mountain range. Once you reach Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura mountains, a breathtaking view awaits you. From the upper station of the Catheline cable car (operating in summer), the trail crosses varied landscapes: spruce forests, large mountain pastures and rocky ridges, bordered by remarkable flora. With a little luck, you may spot chamois roaming the steep slopes. The ascent offers exceptional views of the Geneva basin, Lake Geneva and the Alps, dominated by Mont Blanc. Reaching the highest point of the summit ridge, at 1,720 metres, rewards hikers with an exceptional view. On the way down, the crossing of ancient mountain pastures and their remains bears witness to the centuries-old pastoral activity of the area.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. The Petit Montrond hike is a must-do, offering breathtaking views considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe. The trail climbs through woodland and open areas where you will find picnic tables. From the Col de la Faucille, a staircase with 419 steps leads to the summit of Petit Montrond at 1,540 metres, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Lake Geneva plain, the Alps and Mont Blanc. The descent is via the same route, offering a different perspective on the surrounding landscape.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. This easy-to-access, varied trail, dotted with natural curiosities, enters a preserved forest. It then leads to the Turet viewpoint for a spectacular panorama of Gex, the Lake Geneva plain, Mont Blanc and the surrounding ridges. Starting from the Col de la Faucille, this family hike offers a rejuvenating immersion in nature. The biodiversity here is remarkable. After a gradual, gentle climb, the Turet viewpoint reveals an exceptional panorama of Gex, the Lake Geneva plain and, on a clear day, the majestic Mont Blanc. The return journey follows the same route. In winter and spring, this area is subject to special restrictions, which are essential for the preservation of sensitive species (access is limited between December and June, see regulations). Please note that dogs are strictly prohibited, even on a lead, throughout the year.

A superb hike, easy to follow (excellent signposting), with no particular difficulties, well worth doing for the magnificent panoramic views it offers over most of the route.

Open from 1 December to 30 March A lovely walk through the forest in the nature reserve leading to a viewpoint offering views of the Alps, Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. Hiking in the nature reserve - Dogs not allowed - Most of the route is located in a wildlife quiet zone, so it is mandatory to follow the markings.

A pleasant walk along boardwalks through a marshy area with themed information panels about the local flora and fauna. Starting from the hamlet known as ‘Les Îles’, an educational trail runs alongside the Crans Canal. This canal, also known as the Coppet Canal, has been used since 1265 to divert part of the waters of the Versoix towards Bogis and Commugny in Switzerland. The rich variety of flora and fauna (reeds, alders, oaks, lungwort, etc.) found here is highlighted by themed information boards. As you cross the Bidonnes marsh on wooden footbridges, you may spot beavers. Finally, an observation deck offers a superb view of this fragile ecosystem, where a herd of hardy cows helps to prevent natural reforestation.

A short walk accessible to younger children, which quickly leads to a magnificent viewpoint over Geneva, the Salève and the majestic Mont Blanc. This hike, accessible from April to November, is ideal for a short outing to admire the landscape from the Col de la Faucille. The route alternates between stony paths and forest trails. At the end, the Redoute viewpoint offers breathtaking views of Geneva, the Salève and the Mont Blanc massif. On a clear day, the panorama extends to the Swiss Alps, offering a unique spectacle at sunrise and sunset.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions This is one of the most beautiful trails in the Haute Chaîne du Jura, offering a hike that largely follows the ridge line of the massif and allowing you to enjoy sublime views of the Alps. The route starts from the tourist office at the Col de la Faucille, climbs through the forest on a pleasant and varied trail, sometimes crossing the ski slopes. When passing through the Crozat mountain pasture, be careful not to approach the dogs and their herd. Finally, at 1,668 metres, the summit of Colomby de Gex offers a beautiful panorama of the Lake Geneva basin and the Alps. Along the route, the landscape is strongly marked by geology: glacial erosion, marine fossils, etc.

It forms a circular route along the edge of the Valserine. A sumptuous walk to discover the Valserine with the magic of snow-covered landscapes.The trail can be used for several activities: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, walking.Accessible for families, with sledges and children. This route can only be used in winter when there is snow and is marked in purple.

Open from 1 December to 30 March. The circular Golf Loop is a walk accessible to all, starting from Mijoux. It is varied, with coniferous forest, beautiful expanses at the end of the golf course, all accompanied by the gentle sound of water flowing from the river.A sumptuous walk to discover the Valserine with the magic of snow-covered landscapes.The trail can be used with snowshoes or on foot.It is accessible for families, with sledges and children.This route can only be done in winter when there is snow and is marked in purple.

Open from 1 April to 30 November - subject to snow conditions The second stage of the 3-day, 2-night Crêts en Combes hiking tour. Starting from Lélex, this circular route combines the main GTJ route with the suggested alternative via Mijoux and the Col de la Faucille. The crossing of the Hautes-Combes jurassiennes, the Valserine valley and the crests of the Haute Chaine du Jura promise breathtaking landscapes. On one side, the view overlooks the ridges, on the other, it overlooks Lake Geneva and the Alps. In the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and partly in the Haute Chaîne Nature Reserve, the hike takes place in a preserved natural area. The trail is marked with red and whiteGR®® signs.

The GR® 9 enters the Ain department via Mijoux, before following the spectacular ridges of the Monts-Jura, passing through the Crêt de la Neige, the highest point of the massif. It then descends towards Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, crosses the Retord plateau and climbs the Grand Colombier. Open from 1 December to 30 March - subject to the opening of the Vattay Nordic Centre This hike on the Jura plateau, in a vast area dedicated to Nordic activities, takes us to the summit of La Gélinotte, where the view of the Alps and Mont Blanc is absolutely superb. The signage (purple stakes and signposts) is very well done.A very beautiful route in the Vattay area, crossing the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve (you must comply with the regulations in force). There is an admission charge to access the Vattay site.

This is a very popular hike to the Croix du Reculet, the second highest peak in the Jura, offering superb views of Geneva, Lake Geneva, Mont Blanc and the entire Alps in good weather. For geocachers, there are a few caches along the hike.

A tour of Geneva city centre that takes in the main tourist attractions of the old town, including the port and all its hustle and bustle.

A beautiful cycle route linking Les Eaux-Vives in Geneva to the Hilton Évian-les-Bains, mainly following the southern shore of Lake Geneva. The route passes through Cologny, Vésenaz, Anières and Hermance before crossing the French border. It then continues via Chens-sur-Léman, Messery, Nernier, Yvoire, Excenevex, Sciez and Thonon-les-Bains. Between Thonon and Évian, the route follows the ViaRhôna corridor via the port of Rives, Ripaille Castle, Saint-Disdille, the Dranse delta and Amphion-les-Bains. The route alternates between cycle paths, greenways, shared minor roads and a few urban sections. It is generally easy to cycle, but is not entirely separated from traffic.

There is little elevation gain and lots of forest for this walk, which is recommended in summer on the Jura plateau.

Starting from Lajoux, this 5 km walk, which takes place in open country, winds through a highly fragmented area of pastureland. The meadows stretch across undulating terrain. The scattered settlements are typical of the Hautes-Combes region.

This is a circular route without great difficulty that takes you through the pretty mountain pastures around the village of Lajoux, with beautiful views of Lake Lamoura and the Jura mountain range. The route can easily be lengthened or shortened thanks to the many trails in the area.

This circular route, just a few kilometres from the city, immerses you in nature in a surprising way, allowing you to discover two rivers in the Canton of Geneva, then the vineyards of Dardagny. It can be done in either direction.

A walk that varies between forest paths, following streams and crossing vineyards, and the old village of Dardagny.Can also be done by mountain bike (except for one section - from point (7): bypass via Essertines).

Short, easy hike, mostly through forest, leading to La Vigoureuse (1,335 m) with views of the Valserine and Mont Blanc (on a clear day). On the way back, opportunity to swim in Lake Lamoura.

A gentle walk covering a good distance but with very little elevation gain. Feeling the icy crust of the snow crack in the morning under the weight of our first steps is pure bliss, a blank canvas that we delight in scribbling on with our eager snowshoes.

A lovely circular walk passing through the Crêt Pela (the highest point in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and the Jura department). It offers varied scenery, including walks through typical forests and the open landscapes of the Combe du Lac, as well as a stunning view over a succession of mountain ranges stretching as far as the Swiss Alps. Please note: theroute is closed from 15 December to 30 June between (5) and (8) to ensure the preservation of these forests, which provide a habitat for many protected species in the massif: capercaillie, hazel grouse, pygmy owls, Eurasian lynx, etc.See here.

Leaving the village and crossing the woods via the Sentier des Amoureux trail, you will discover Lake Lamoura, set in lush green countryside punctuated by the red hues of the surrounding peat bog, where the waters of the highest natural lake in the Jura mountains glisten. The trail goes around the lake. A wooden deck allows you to cross the wetlands and bog without damaging these fragile environments.

The walk starts from the centre of Lamoura and enters the small Combe d'Arbey, divided into two parts by a wooded ridge. This rocky ridge separates the route into two distinct parts: the outward journey is on the eastern slope and the return journey is on the other side, along the cross-country ski trail.
