Col de la Faucille station car park
(S/E) Leave the car park and climb past "La Petite Chaumière". Continue until you pass the summer toboggan run and turn left. Follow the toboggan run for about a hundred metres and, at the bend in the path, take a newly constructed, well-paved path on the left.
This well-maintained path (with attractive wooden steps where the slope is steep) is clearly signposted and leads to Petit Montrond.
(1) Leave the viewing platform, just below the cable car station, and go around the station from below. A path (marked in yellow) heads towards Grand Montrond, skirting around the imposing telecoms installation. Stay on this well-marked path, which generally continues along the ridge, until it turns right into a pass.
(2) At the crossroads, ignore the path opposite leading to the Chalet du Crozat and turn left onto the path that climbs up the mountainside towards a copse of conifers.
A little higher up, the path (still marked in yellow) meets the GR®.
(3) Take theGR® on the left, heading uphill, and reach the summit of Grand Montrond.
(4) From Grand Montrond, follow theGR® which more or less follows the ridge line to Pas de l'Échine. TheGR® then turns right to reach Colomby de Gex.
(5) Return to Grand Montrond via the same path. Continue along theGR® trail downhill.
(3) Do not follow the yellow markings uphill, but continue on theGR®. You will come to a gravel access track just below the Chalet du Crozat.
(6) Continue along this track until you pass under a power line, then a chairlift cable.
(7) After the chairlift (skiers' tunnel on the left), leave the track on the left to find, a little further down, theGR® markings that indicate the path leading down quite steeply into the woods.
Note: theGR® has recently been modified on this section but it is very well marked and signposted.
Follow it until you reach a tarmac road.
(8) Turn right onto this road, which leads back to the station and the car park (S/E).
