To reach the start, head towards the village of Lamoura (39310). Walk through the village to the Tourist Office. The car park is located on either side of the office.
(S/E) From the Tourist Office, cross the Grande Rue with care and head north-west towards Saint-Claude. At the crossroads signposting Longchaumois, you’ll find the Fromages et Saveurs shop. Head to the right of this small shop selling local produce to reach the start of the snowshoe trail at the Carrefour des Lamauris signpost. Put on your snowshoes.
(1) Follow the path marking the Demaury trail (marked with yellow posts and flags) as it leads away from the village across a vast meadow. After a gentle descent, take the first turn right then left onto the Sous la Prairie path. Cross another vast meadow before entering a pine forest. Continue to the Vers la Croix junction.
(2) Turn right and cross some pretty, typically Jura-style clearings that lead you to high points offering superb views of the valleys and isolated farms. Continue northwards along the zigzagging track, cross the Chemin des Eterpets to reach the Chevrette crossroads.
(3) Turn right onto the Demaury track, which takes you through a series of small valleys, then turn left at the Lonchaumois road. Follow this road for about a hundred metres.
(4) Head along the south-west-facing track to La Chaux Berthod, initially skirting the edge of a fir forest on your left, then crossing pretty clearings that lead you to high points with superb views over the valleys and ridges of the Jura. Cross the Chemin des Eterpets, pass in front of the Lanchet farm (a pretty farmhouse with wooden shingles) to return to the Vers la Croix crossroads.
(2) Turn right into the fir forest ( Caution: easy to take a wrong turn here) to continue in the opposite direction along the path you started on and return to the village of Lamoura. Then continue left along the Grande Rue towards the Tourist Office and the car park (S/E)
