From the Col de la Faucille to the Turet viewpoint

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions.

This easy-to-access, varied trail, dotted with natural curiosities, enters a preserved forest. It then leads to the Turet viewpoint for a spectacular panorama of Gex, the Lake Geneva plain, Mont Blanc and the surrounding ridges.

Starting from the Col de la Faucille, this family hike offers a rejuvenating immersion in nature. The biodiversity here is remarkable. After a gradual, gentle climb, the Turet viewpoint reveals an exceptional panorama of Gex, the Lake Geneva plain and, on a clear day, the majestic Mont Blanc. The return journey follows the same route. In winter and spring, this area is subject to special restrictions, which are essential for the preservation of sensitive species (access is limited between December and June, see regulations). Please note that dogs are strictly prohibited, even on a lead, throughout the year.

Description of the walk

From Gex, head towards Mijoux and the Col de la Faucille. Park at the pass.

Signposting: GR®9, Le Turet and plaques

(DA). The start is next to the "Col de la Faucille" road sign. Continue straight ahead at each junction until you reach the forest road.

(1) Turn right and follow the "Le Turet" signs. Pass in front of the forest chalet, then take a small path through the woods that joins the tarmac road. Follow it for about 200 m to the first crossroads.

(2) Take a wide grassy/dirt track on the right, which then becomes stony, to reach a pretty clearing, keeping to the right. After a fence/mountain bike track, you will come to a crossroads.

(3) Turn right downhill, then arrive at a plateau and pass a small concrete cross. Continue along the steep downhill path for about 100 m until you reach the viewpoint. There is a wooden bench here where you can admire the view (of the Alps) and rest.

(4) The Turet viewpoint overlooks the Route de la Faucille. Return to the starting point by retracing your steps (S/E).

A pleasant family hike (ages 2½ to 71/72) with snowshoes for some and just poles for others, sledding for much of the route, and a baby carrier.
Magnificent view at the Belvédère, where there is a bench and families were picnicking on the grass. Many of the children we met had "shovels" to slide down the small slopes along the hike. Purple markers and numerous signs indicated the direction. The times indicated (45 minutes from the start of the trail to Belvédère) are more for people who are comfortable with snowshoes.
This hike was our alternative to the one planned at the arrival point of the cable cars, which were closed due to high winds. Remember to call ahead if you are coming for the cable cars.
