Mijoux - Les Moussières

The second stage of the 3-day, 2-night Crêts en Combes hiking tour.

Starting from Lélex, this circular route combines the main GTJ route with the alternative route via Mijoux and the Col de la Faucille.

The crossing of the Hautes-Combes jurassiennes, the Valserine valley and the ridges of the Haute Chaine du Jura promise breathtaking landscapes. On one side, the view overlooks the ridges, on the other, Lake Geneva and the Alps. In the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and partly in the Haute Chaîne Nature Reserve, this hike takes place in a preserved natural area.

The trail is marked with red and whiteGR® signs

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: From Crêts en Combes to Lélex

Description of the walk

(S) From the centre of the village of Mijoux (Rue Royale), cross the street and climb to the left of the church to pick up the trail, markedGR® in red and white. It climbs gradually into the forest until it reaches a fork.

(1) Continue along theGR® on the right and climb until you reach the road (D436). The trail continues on the left and crosses the road again, then heads straight ahead into the forest. It emerges onto the road and arrives at the village of Lajoux. Continue straight ahead until you reach Route du Manon on the left.

(2) Follow this road (D292) towards Les Moussières. At the next crossroads, pass in front of L'Étincelle.

(3) Keep left at the fork that follows, then further on, take the small road that climbs to the right. It winds between several farms and eventually turns into a path. Continue straight ahead on a path that winds between forest and meadow, then, when this is no longer possible, turn right and arrive at Les Platières at the Cariche crossroads.

(4) Continue straight ahead and join the road (D29E1).

(5) Turn right onto this road and cross the hamlet of Les Molunes. After the Vie Neuve crossroads, follow the path that descends into the woods at the exit of the hamlet towards the Laisia valley. Continue straight ahead, then turn left until you reach the road.

(6) Follow it to the left and pass three large farms called Le Gros Crêt. The path rejoins on the right shortly afterwards. It enters the forest again and emerges at a place called Le Pré Coquet.

(7) Continue on the left and stay left until the second crossroads.

(8) At this crossroads, turn right and follow the main road "les Rasses" until you reach a fork, then turn into a meadow. At the edge of the forest, keep to the right and continue into the woods, go downhill and turn left then right. Cross the Bief des Parres, continue straight ahead until you reach Les Moussières (E).
