From Catheline to Crêt de la Neige via Brulat Frésy

Open in July and August - during the Catheline cable car operating hours

The trail follows the ridges and allows you to fully appreciate the geology and exceptional flora of the mountain range. Once you reach Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura mountains, a breathtaking view awaits you.

From the upper station of the Catheline cable car (operating in summer), the trail crosses varied landscapes: spruce forests, large mountain pastures and rocky ridges, bordered by remarkable flora. With a little luck, you may spot chamois roaming the steep slopes. The ascent offers exceptional views of the Geneva basin, Lake Geneva and the Alps, dominated by Mont Blanc. Reaching the highest point of the summit ridge, at 1,720 metres, rewards hikers with an exceptional view. On the way down, the crossing of ancient mountain pastures and their remains bears witness to the centuries-old pastoral activity of the area.

This route borders an alpine pasture where patous are present:
The patou or guard dog: How should you behave? When hiking, it is common to encounter flocks of sheep or goats guarded by guard dogs, called patous. These dogs, which are formidable against predators such as wolves, bears and lynxes, can frighten hikers with their barking. The patou protects the flocks completely independently. Its main role is to deter intruders and alert the shepherd. Raised among the sheep from an early age, it learns to protect them at all times, often in groups.

To avoid problems with a Patou:
- Identify grazing areas before setting off.
- Keep your distance and go around the flocks if possible.
- If you encounter a dog, remain calm, turn around slowly or stop to let the dog sniff you.
- Do not attempt to pet or feed the animals, avoid sudden movements, do not run, and avoid taking photos.

For trail runners:
- Do not run when approaching a herd.
- Remove your headphones so you can hear the dog barking.

By adopting these behaviours, you will be able to coexist peacefully with guard dogs during your hikes.

Hello,
There appears to be an error in the first sentence of the hike description: instead of "From Col de la Faucille, take the Catheline cable car to the end," it should be "From Lelex, take the Catheline cable car to the end."
Kind regards

There's not much point in going down to the lodge, even though the warden is really friendly, and then climbing back up again. The ridge trail would have been more interesting, and the return trip would not have been via the lodge.
