A thoroughly enjoyable walk that takes you from feudal mounds to mills on the River Dive, through the Bignon wetlands and the plain irrigated by the Gué du Rez canal, after exploring the remarkable heritage of the village of Sainte-Soline.
The Saint-Coutant and Greenwich meridian circular loop
A walk offering varied scenery. It starts from Saint-Coutant, a village situated on the edge of the Melle plateau. It crosses the route of a Roman road and passes directly over the Greenwich meridian.
Saint-Vincent-La-Châtre Circular Route
An easy route over almost flat terrain along grassy paths lined with hedges. The scenery is very varied and mostly away from built-up areas, making for a very pleasant walk.
The Meulières of Caunay
A pleasant walk through the countryside, offering varied scenery ranging from open fields to hedgerows and woodland. This route allows you to admire both the built and natural heritage, in particular the Fontadam fountain, said to have miraculous properties, and the church at Caunay.
Circular route from La Lambertière and La Braudière
A lovely walk starting from Saint-Vincent-la-Châtre, alternating between footpaths and a few sections along minor roads. Ideal for an easy walk after a very wet spell: the route is a variation on another circular route, avoiding the wettest sections.

In the vicinity of the Benedictine Abbey of Les Alleuds
This walk takes you along the path used by the people of Melleran to reach Les Alleuds via ‘le Chemin de l’Abbaye’. The route takes you through the Bois du Juge, past the villages and their limestone buildings characteristic of the Pays Mellois, whilst also allowing you to discover a rich heritage of trees: lime, chestnut, oak and walnut, amongst others.
For your information, the word ‘alleu’ dates back to the 10th century and refers to land without a lord.
Discovering the heritage of Poitou between Chenay and Breuil
Two towns, Chenay and Brieuil, enjoyed their heyday in the Middle Ages: they retain a rich heritage from that period. This walk offers a glimpse of these two towns as well as the plateau through which the Sèvre Niortaise has carved its course.
The area around Brégion, starting from Sepvret
A pleasant walk starting from Sepvret, taking in the valleys of the Sèvre Niortaise and the Ruisseau de Fontblance. Along the route, you’ll come across several springs and fountains. You’ll come across the Logis de Foucault after walking alongside the Bois du Côteau. Finally, crossing the plateau after Faugerit offers a glimpse of the agricultural landscape of the Mellois plateau.
Fountains and wash houses at Mareuil and Mouchedune in Bournaveau
A lovely walking route starting from Bournaveau, offering varied scenery (countryside and woodland). This route allows you to discover some of the traditional architecture of southern Deux-Sèvres, notably at La Baudrière (well, bread oven) and two old wash houses at the Mareuil and Mouchedune fountains.
Four wash-and-water fountains in Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière
A pleasant little walk offering the chance to discover four beautiful wash-house fountains in the commune of Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière: the Fontaine du Bignon, the Fontaine au Blanc, the Fontaine de Mouchedune and the Fontaine de Mareuil.
A long, wooded circular loop starting from Sepvret
A walk of no great difficulty, set in wooded countryside with a variety of paths and trails, and small roads offering beautiful scenery. Some sections may be a little muddy if the weather is too wet.
The Sèvre Niortaise in the Sepvret area
This pleasant hike starts in Sepvret and takes you through beautiful landscapes, the sources of the Sèvre Niortaise, wash houses, a small mill and the Bregion dovecote with 2,200 nesting boxes.
Circular walk between Chail and Fontivillié
A pleasant walk through the plains and woods of Chail. This route forms part of the ‘Grand 8’ trail; the other section is located in the former commune of Sompt.
The Two Fountains Route
A lovely walk through varied terrain, passing two springs, the Fontaine du Triangle and the Fontaine de l’Anguillière, and close to the source of the Sèvre Niortaise. This route follows mainly farm tracks with a few sections on minor roads. The landscape is pleasant and varied.
From Les Grandes Fontaines to the Bois de l’Érable and La Roche
A pleasant, very scenic walk on the Pillac plateau. The route runs from the Sources de la Sèvre Niortaise, via the Grandes Fontaines wash house, through the Bois de l’Érable and on to the Bois de la Roche.
Circular route from La Caillaudrie to Les Villedonnes, featuring an ancient Roman road
A pleasant walk through a hilly area south of Pouffonds and across the plateau to the east. This route begins with a walk mainly along small roads until you reach the wonderful village of Coubortiges, with its many well-restored old houses. It continues through the countryside, with its varied crops, in search of an ancient Roman road which you follow in the second half of this walk. This nature-filled route is suitable for all weather conditions.
Pouffonds - Coubortiges and its traditional architecture
A lovely, varied route with beautiful sections through woodland or along a river (the Marseillaise). You’ll also discover local crops. As throughout the Pays Mellois, traditional architecture is evident, with a particular highlight being the charming village of Coubortiges.
This route alternates between wide farm tracks, a few sections of narrower paths and links along quiet roads.

From one spring to another between Lambon and Sèvre Niortaise
A pleasant hike on a plateau between Melle and Saint-Maixent, leading to the sources of the Lambon, one of the sources of the Sèvre Niortaise. This route across varied terrain allows you to enjoy the green, calm and relaxing countryside and discover many examples of the ancient architectural heritage of Poitou-Charentes through a number of well-restored houses and wash houses such as those in Goux and Grandes Fontaines.
In and around the Fosse aux Lions
A pleasant walk through Protestant country, rich in history, combining paths through sunken lanes, open fields and woods within easy reach of La Couarde. This bocage landscape offers a lovely variety of scenery.
Around the Sèvre Niortaise between La Mothe-Saint-Héray and Bagnault
In this hedgerow-dotted countryside, at the heart of Protestant country, where water and stone alternate, the paths wind through contrasting landscapes steeped in history. This walk will allow you to discover wash-house fountains, a ‘donkey bridge’ (stone bridge), a dolmen and numerous examples of traditional built heritage, including farmhouses and the Château d’Exoudun.
Exoudun, Bagnault and Brieuil, a major centre of Protestantism in the Poitou region
A pleasant walk through a key centre of Protestantism, taking in the pretty village of Brieuil and the charming market town of Exoudun with its bubbling fountain. Varied landscapes in peaceful countryside, both along the banks of the Sèvre Niortaise and on the surrounding plateau. Along the route, views of Brieuil Castle (private) and the Brieuil wash house.

Circular of the Three Rivers in Saint-Génard
A beautiful walk that takes you across three rivers: the Coudrières stream, the Berlande and the Marseillaise.
The route offers varied landscapes, combining the Mellois plateau with its diverse crops and the valley floors as you cross the three rivers that cut through the plateau in this area.
La Berlande, springs, wash houses and the Chemin des Romains near Puyberland
A pleasant walk through a little-visited part of the Mellois plateau, starting from Saint-Génard. Along the route, you’ll discover the Berlande springs at Puyberland, as well as a lovely view of Melzéar Castle beyond Paizay-le-Tort.
Route des Deux Washhouses in Tillou and Sompt
A pleasant route through varied terrain. Moderate elevation gain. Offers the chance to discover two traditional regional wash houses and historic water-based structures, as well as the resurgence of the Somptueuse.

A pleasant walk starting from the Porte de la Mothe-Saint-Héray, which is well worth a detour to explore the rolling, green countryside and discover the legend of the Lady of Chambrille. A short walk combining heritage discoveries with a chance to enjoy nature. It takes in several wells, a pond, bread ovens, remarkable trees and a beautiful viewpoint.
Circular route from the Moulin de Grand Vault to the Gasse aux Grolles
A pleasant walk east of La Mothe-Saint-Héray to the vicinity of Bougon. Starting by following the Sèvre Niortaise for a while, the route climbs onto a plateau, winding its way through a rather idyllic valley. The route continues across the plateau, offering a route through the lowlands with varied landscapes.
Montalembert circular route via the Montée Rouge
This walk offers the chance to discover a geological curiosity: the Montalembert Horst. Oriented along the granite axis of the Armorican Massif and the Massif Central – that is, north-west to south-east – it forms a remarkable hill (186 m high), 9 km long and 1 km wide, with wooded slopes and red clay soils (used for making roof tiles and growing chestnut trees).
West of Pamproux
A pleasant walk to explore the village of Pamproux and its points of interest, such as the Chabanne wash house and fountain, traditional buildings and Saint-Maixent Church. The route stretches along the Pamproux stream, towards its source (which varies with the seasons), offers beautiful scenery on the western side of the village, and allows you to discover a local curiosity, the Moulin de Pouillet.
Hidden natural beauty between Javarzay and Lussais
A lovely walk through the bocage countryside south of Javarzay, with its castle, and Lusseau. This walk, which takes you on both sides of the River Boutonne, is very pleasant and offers a lovely escape into the countryside right on the outskirts of Chef-Boutonne, a small town that is also well worth a visit.
From La Croisée de Furigny to the rivers of Salles
A pleasant and original walk around Salles. After passing through the countryside north of the village, this route allows you to explore the banks of the Pamproux along a very natural path via good grassy tracks not shown on the map. This route offers an insight into interesting built and natural heritage (wash houses, springs, old buildings, etc.).
Between fountains and the river near Fontenille-Saint-Martin-d’Entraigues
A pleasant walk in the Boutonne Valley near Fontenille-Saint-Martin-d’Entraigues. Its moderate length and very gentle gradient make it a family-friendly walk.
This route passes through an area of significant biodiversity, particularly at the Chaumes Pelés, which is a nature reserve home to a diverse range of wildlife and several species of orchids.
