La Belle au Moulin de Pouzou
A lovely walk on the Mellois plateau. Very little elevation gain. An easy route offering a glimpse of the countryside surrounding the town of Périgné.
This walk follows good farm tracks, often shaded, and offers a lovely glimpse of a still-wooded area of the Mellois plateau.
The quality of the paths also makes this hike suitable for mountain biking.
Saint-Vincent-La-Châtre Circular Route
An easy route over almost flat terrain along grassy paths lined with hedges. The scenery is very varied and mostly away from built-up areas, making for a very pleasant walk.
Old buildings of the Château des Ouches at the Chapel of Saint-Faziol
A circular walk offering varied scenery with little elevation gain. This hike alternates between footpaths and a few sections on minor roads. It offers views of the Château des Ouches, the Moulin des Ouches and the Chapelle de Saint-Faziol.
Route des Deux Washhouses in Tillou and Sompt
A pleasant route through varied terrain. Moderate elevation gain. Offers the chance to discover two traditional regional wash houses and historic water-based structures, as well as the resurgence of the Somptueuse.
Vitré and the Plan d’Eau du Lambon
A lovely route through varied, undulating terrain, part of which goes around the Plan d’Eau du Lambon.

Le Quaireux via the green trail
This route follows part of the Sentier de la Découverte and then the Ruban Vert (Melle–Celles-sur-Belle), which follows the route of the old single-track railway line. A lovely, easy walk along wide paths, shaded for most of the way. Suitable for all weathers.
The Two Fountains Route
A lovely walk through varied terrain, passing two springs, the Fontaine du Triangle and the Fontaine de l’Anguillière, and close to the source of the Sèvre Niortaise. This route follows mainly farm tracks with a few sections on minor roads. The landscape is pleasant and varied.
The Moulin de Génebrie and the archpriesthood of Mazières-sur-Béronne
A pleasant route in a little-known corner of the Mellois plateau. It allows you to discover varied landscapes, partly by following an old railway line converted into a path, crossing hamlets (Le Petit Beauvais, La Rorserie, Etrochon) with traditional buildings, sometimes running alongside the Berlande with its Moulin de Génebrie mill, and ending at the Cure du Prieuré de Mazières sur Béronne and its wash house.
This walk follows part of theGR®655, one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela.
Circular of the Three Rivers in Saint-Génard
A beautiful walk that takes you across three rivers: the Coudrières stream, the Berlande and the Marseillaise.
The route offers varied landscapes, combining the Mellois plateau with its diverse crops and the valley floors as you cross the three rivers that cut through the plateau in this area.
Pouffonds - Coubortiges and its traditional architecture
A lovely, varied route with beautiful sections through woodland or along a river (the Marseillaise). You’ll also discover local crops. As throughout the Pays Mellois, traditional architecture is evident, with a particular highlight being the charming village of Coubortiges.
This route alternates between wide farm tracks, a few sections of narrower paths and links along quiet roads.
Hermitain Forest in La Couarde
A beautiful hike over varied terrain: the first part is in the gently rolling hills near La Couarde, followed by the second part through the Hermitain Forest.
This route offers a wealth of discoveries: the Patriarch (a remarkable oak tree), the Font Querré fountain (see the legend described in the "During the hike" section), and the Stèle du Parterre.
Chemin de la Croix Bastide in Bort-les-Orgues
Walk to the Croix Bastide with views of the Orgues and the town. From the Croix Bastide, there is a beautiful view of the valley and the Orgues de Bort-les-Orgues. The descent is via a very small shaded road (reserved for local residents).
Siauve Beach - Val Castle
A pleasant route overlooking Lake Bort-les-Orgues, leading from La Siauve beach to Val Castle. The short distance of the route makes it possible to consider a circular route.
The Étang de Majonenc from Riom-ès-Montagne
A beautiful walk from the centre of Riom-ès-Montagne, allowing you to discover the Étang de Majonenc. This route alternates between roads and paths, the latter of which are in both moorland and forest, making it a very pleasant route that is largely shaded and offers a variety of landscapes.
Puy Mary from the Pas de Peyrol
The circuit offers magnificent panoramic views of twelve valleys from the summit.
Puy Mary, a veritable pyramid when seen from the sky, rises to 1,783 metres. In the heart of the Cantalien Massif, it is surrounded by exceptional landscapes formed by volcanic activity and glacial erosion, representing the largest volcano in Europe (2,700 km²).
The narrow streets of Melle and L’Argentière
This walking route focuses on exploring Melle’s narrow streets and ends with a very pleasant stroll along the River Argentière.
However, this walk also allows you to discover the main monuments of the town of Melle (see the section ‘During the walk or nearby’).
Springs and wash houses near La Belle towards Périgné
A route designed to help you discover springs and wash houses located near the River Belle between Périgné and Montigné. The route alternates between farm tracks and quiet country lanes (as evidenced by the grass growing there). The walk passes close to the Château de la Forge and alongside the Château de la Guittonnière
Passing through Negressauve and Le Luc de Verrines
A lovely walk on the Mellois plateau. Varied landscapes with a mix of fields and wooded areas. Passing through the villages of Negresauve and Le Luc de Verrines, in particular, offers a good view of traditional architecture.
The Woods of Celles-sur-Belle
This walk takes you on a route through the Bois de Celles. The route allows you to discover varied landscapes of woodland and farmland, as well as traditional local architecture as you pass through the hamlet of La Garzelle.
The Woods of Celles-sur-Belle - 2
An easy walk in the woods of Celles-sur-Belle with minimal elevation changes. At the start and finish, there are beautiful views of Celles-sur-Belle Abbey. This walk offers a variety of landscapes around the village.
The route also takes you past a remarkable tree, the “Talle à Teurtous” (see “During the walk and nearby”).
The six fountains of Savrelle
This hiking route in fairly hilly terrain allows you to discover the Cougnat fountain and wash house, family cemeteries, the Paradis fountain and wash house, remarkable "talles", the Perrière fountain and its pond, the Chagnasses woods, the Garennerie fountain and the Savrelle wash house fountain.
This hike highlights a geological fault that runs from Saint-Maixent to Lezay, separating the Mellois plateau from a collapse trench where the Sèvre Niortaise river flows.
Between marsh and ocean on the Île de Noirmoutier
A beautiful circuit between the sea and the marshes at the northern tip of the Île de Noirmoutier, near L'Herbaudière.
The Sébastopol Polder Nature Reserve
A beautiful walk around a large part of the Polder de Sébastopol nature reserve. This route also takes you past the Étang Vide and the exit of the Gois passage on the Île de Noirmoutier side.
The Sèvre Niortaise in the Sepvret area
This pleasant hike starts in Sepvret and takes you through beautiful landscapes, the sources of the Sèvre Niortaise, wash houses, a small mill and the Bregion dovecote with 2,200 nesting boxes.
Around Sainte Blandine
A walk with little elevation gain on the Mellois plateau in the Sainte-Blandine area. This route alternates between farm tracks and quiet country lanes used only by local residents.
This walk offers the chance to see Poitou donkeys when they are out in the pastures or grey mares (at several points along the route).
Walk around Prailles and the Grand Ry wash house
A lovely short hike starting from Prailles, a mainly rural village. This is a wooded area criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails, much to the delight of nature lovers. During the walk, the path passes close to the Grand Ry wash house.
This largely shaded route is therefore very pleasant even in hot weather. What's more, as it is on a plateau, hikers can regularly feel the effects of the wind.
The Tour du Lac du Jaunay
A beautiful hike around Lac du Jaunay, an unmissable destination in the Pays des Achards. It is a preserved and protected natural area covering 114 hectares.
The starting point is at La Baudrière. The route runs along both banks and crosses the dam next to the water plant near La Savarière.
In the footsteps of Jean Nesmy in Sallertaine
Circular on the steps of Jean Nesmy in Sallertaine and the surrounding area. This walk takes you to the Moulin de Rairé mill.
From Sallertaine to the Moulin de Rairé
A pleasant walk through the marshes from Sallertaine to the Moulin de Rairé, the only windmill to have been in continuous operation since 1560.
Around Saint-Simon-de-Bordes and the River Maine
A pleasant hike between Saint-Simon-de-Bordes and Agudelle through varied landscapes of plains, forests and vineyards. Part of this hike follows theGRP®® de Saintonge.
Circular route through the plain and Gunstett Forest
A very pleasant walk along well-maintained paths, offering the chance to discover a wide variety of landscapes, such as the Sauer plain, the Gunstett Forest and traditional Alsatian architecture as you pass through the villages.
Between Prailles and Lambon
A walk through varied terrain on the plateau between the village of Prailles and Lake Lambon. This route allows you to discover the diversity of the wooded countryside to the north-west of Lake Lambon.
From Vitré to Lac du Lambon
A beautiful, varied walk starting around Lac du Lambon and continuing through a hilly area and across the Mellois plateau, dotted with numerous castles, manor houses and other traditional buildings. Note the many shaded paths, sometimes running between embankments, which lend a special charm to this route.
A walk in the countryside near Lorigné
A short walk combining heritage discoveries with a chance to enjoy nature. It takes in several wells, a pond, bread ovens, remarkable trees and a beautiful viewpoint.
The Templar Commandery near Ensigné
At the edge of the Aulnay Forest, the history of the Knights Templar, pilgrims, salt workers and winegrowers comes to life through the old paths, vineyard plots and the Commandery.
This walk takes you past the rest areas at La Chaume and La Chauvière, the church at Ensigné, the Chemin de Contré and the Chemin Saunier, the Templar Commandery, the oaks of Fief-Louis, the stork well at Le Lac and the Trou de l’Ormeau.
Northern Jalle Circular Loop
A lovely family walk near Saint-Laurent-Médoc. The farm tracks are lined with small water channels, including a larger one, the Jalle du Nord. This walk passes through an area of significant ecological importance: the marshes in the eastern section. This area is designated as a Natura 2000 site. The ecological balance is under threat due to the abandonment of extensive wetland management in favour of the development of intensive poplar cultivation.
The mills near Saint-Germain-de-Lusignan
On the outskirts of Jonzac, a pleasant hike through vineyards, fields and groves.
Huguenot Trails around the Lambon near Beaussais
The Lambon Valley is a magnet for visitors thanks to its terrain and scenery. The springs and wash houses in its villages punctuate this walk.
Family cemeteries will be visible during this walk, as well as boundary stones evoking the period of the ‘desert’ from 1685 to 1787. Similarly, umbrella pines serve as a welcoming symbol for Protestants.
The Allas and Agudelle Lakes
A pleasant walk offering the chance to discover the village of Agudelle, its beautiful forest, the Etang d’Allas and a large fish farm at Petit Bois, as well as the Château de la Tour and the surrounding countryside with its crops and vineyards.Part of the route follows theGR®®360orGRP®® de Saintonge (at the start and end of the walk).
From Pont des Ânes to the Chapel of Saint-Paul around Clion
A pleasant, flat walk in the countryside around Clion, allowing you to discover the green surroundings of the Pont aux Ânes, the Chapel of Saint-Paul and the Saint-Fort Fountain, and to enjoy beautiful views of the châteaux of Lussac and Clam.This route follows a very small section of theGRP®® de Saintonge.
The Pimparade Valley from Messac to Vibrac
A pleasant walk around the valley of the River La Pimparade. As you walk along both sides of this valley, you’ll discover a variety of landscapes combining vineyards, farmland, woodland and scattered settlements. Part of the route follows theGR®360–GRP® de Saintonge from the point (2) to the change of direction between the point (6) and the point (7).
The plain on the Saint-Maurice de Laurençanne side
A pleasant hike in the plains around the Seugne and Laurençanne rivers, starting from Saint-Maurice de Laurençanne. This route allows you to discover a variety of plains landscapes, as well as the foothills on which the village of Vibrac is built.
Hills and plains between Souvigné and Sèvre Niortaise
This walk between Souvigné and the Sèvre Niortaise valley offers a chance to discover varied landscapes of hillsides, woods and plains. The Bois des Challoteries is typical of the area’s lovely forests. Furthermore, the many villages and hamlets you pass through provide an opportunity to discover the traditional architecture of southern Deux-Sèvres
Around the Belle de Montigné in Verrines-sous-Celles
A pleasant walk around the River Belle between the villages of Montigné and Verrines-sous-Celles. Along this route, you’ll find beautiful views of the Belle Valley, wash houses and traditional buildings. But also river crossings over stone bridges, wash houses and wells, the church at Verrines and, next to it, a bread oven.
In the Morsbronn-les-Bains plain
A lovely, easy walk on flat ground through the Bieberbach and Sauer valleys. As well as beautiful scenery, it offers views of several wayside crucifixes and traditional Alsatian architecture.

A walk through the forests around Marignac and near Château d'Ardennes
A pleasant walk through the woods near Marignac offering a fine view of the Château d’Ardennes. This route, with its varied landscapes, provides a real opportunity for relaxation and a change of scenery.
The sight of Château d'Ardennes as you emerge from the woods is a real delight and a lovely surprise, given the state of the building.

A pleasant walk on the plains around the River Sauer. Beautiful scenery and a glimpse of traditional Alsatian architecture. This route also offers the chance to discover two typical wash houses, one made of stone, the other of wood.
A short walk in the Niederwald
A short walk starting from the resort of Morsbronn-les-Bains in the Niederwald, offering beautiful views over the Sauer plain and a pleasant time in the forest. A route presenting no real difficulties, with moderate elevation gain.
