This is a very popular hike to the Croix du Reculet, the second highest peak in the Jura, offering superb views of Geneva, Lake Geneva, Mont Blanc and the entire Alps in good weather. For geocachers, there are a few caches along the hike.

Hiking on the lower Jura mountains, on wide paths through fields and forests, connecting the heart of two villages in the Pays de Gex, partly following an ancient Roman road. Throughout the hike, you will see old buildings (Gex farms, castle, churches), views of the Pays de Gex plain, and further afield, the Salève, the Alps and Mont Blanc in particular. This route can also be done by mountain bike.

A walk that varies between forest paths, following streams and crossing vineyards, and the old village of Dardagny.Can also be done by mountain bike (except for one section - from point (7): bypass via Essertines).

This circular route, just a few kilometres from the city, immerses you in nature in a surprising way, allowing you to discover two rivers in the Canton of Geneva, then the vineyards of Dardagny. It can be done in either direction.

A short walk along the river that offers a gentle invitation to slow down and reconnect with the landscape. From the moment the path meets the water’s edge, the steady flow of the river sets a calm rhythm, guiding each step forward. Sunlight glints on the surface, shifting with the breeze, while reeds and grasses sway quietly along the banks. Even in familiar surroundings, a riverside walk can feel like a small journey, revealing subtle changes in light, sound, and colour as the route unfolds.

It combines woodland, open ridges and superb panoramic views of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. A wonderful immersion in varied environments, between light and shade. In summer, the Fierney cable car (open on certain days) makes it easier to access the route without detracting from the richness of the landscape. The route runs through the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and crosses part of the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve. Dogs are not allowed, even on a lead. A perfect forest walk for families, combining discovery, observation and learning about nature. A special moment to share, filled with curiosity, relaxation and wonder in the heart of the woods. This 2.5 km circular themed trail (106 m elevation gain) crosses the forest alongside downhill mountain bike trails — watch out for cyclists! Easy and enjoyable, it is dotted with information panels about the Eurasian lynx, making for an informative and fun outing for the whole family.

Open from 15 December to 30 March. Put on your snowshoes and set off to explore the famous Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura mountains, offering spectacular scenery! The trail is marked with purple posts for snowshoeing. This route can be accessed by taking the Fierney cable car and the Télécombi des Bergers from Crozet.

Open in July and August - during the Catheline cable car operating hours The trail follows the ridges and allows you to fully appreciate the geology and exceptional flora of the mountain range. Once you reach Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura mountains, a breathtaking view awaits you. From the upper station of the Catheline cable car (operating in summer), the trail crosses varied landscapes: spruce forests, large mountain pastures and rocky ridges, bordered by remarkable flora. With a little luck, you may spot chamois roaming the steep slopes. The ascent offers exceptional views of the Geneva basin, Lake Geneva and the Alps, dominated by Mont Blanc. Reaching the highest point of the summit ridge, at 1,720 metres, rewards hikers with an exceptional view. On the way down, the crossing of ancient mountain pastures and their remains bears witness to the centuries-old pastoral activity of the area.

This circular route will take you to Reculet, the second highest peak in the Jura. Although 2 metres lower than Crêt de la Neige, it is more picturesque. From here, you can enjoy magnificent views all the way to Mont Blanc. The return journey takes you along the banks of the Valserine, one of the wildest rivers in France.

Set off on a crossing of the Haut-Jura between Mijoux and Chézery-Forens, through varied landscapes of valleys, peaks and forests. Over three days, you will walk along the Jura ridges, passing by the Grand Mont Rond, the Crêt de la Neige and the Reculet, with magnificent views of Mont Blanc and the Alps. Here is a second circular route to reach the Reculet (the first route can be seen here). You will be able to enjoy numerous views of the Valserine Valley and Lake Geneva (including Geneva and Mont Blanc). I can only say one thing: the landscapes are truly magnificent.

Accessible from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. Fourth stage of the GRP® de la Valserine. The route climbs gradually towards the Plateau de Retord, with a view of the remaining path and, in good weather, a panorama of the Alps. The stage then crosses Giron (1,000 m), the highest commune in the Ain, before reaching Lélex and ending at the Pertes de la Valserine. Protected area: dogs and tent camping are prohibited in the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve.

Open from 1 April to 30 November - subject to snow conditions First stage of the 3-day, 2-night Crêts en Combes hiking tour.Starting from Lélex, this circular route combines the main GTJ route with the suggested alternative via Mijoux and the Col de la Faucille.The crossing of the Hautes-Combes jurassiennes, the Valserine valley and the peaks of the Haute Chaine du Jura promise breathtaking landscapes. On one side, the view overlooks the ridges, on the other, it overlooks Lake Geneva and the Alps. In the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and partly in the Haute-Chaîne Nature Reserve, this hike takes place in a preserved natural area.

A less frequented and less direct approach to the highest point in the Jura than the traditional routes. Once you reach the ridge, you'll find yourself back among people, and the descent offers several options depending on the ski slopes.

I suggest a long hike from Lélex to Borne au Lion to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Haut Jura.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions This tour offers a varied and challenging route, from the banks of the Valserine to the highest peaks of the Jura, with sublime views of the Alps, Lake Geneva and the Jura mountains. Starting from Lélex, the path runs alongside the Valserine and its peat bog before beginning the ascent of the Reculet (1,719 m) and the Crêt de la Neige, the highest point of the massif at 1,720 m. On the way back down to Lélex, note the remains of old buildings, evidence of the alpine farming tradition of the Jura Mountains.

Open from 1 December to 30 March. A balcony hike with beautiful views of the Valserine Valley and the village of Lélex, overlooked by the high Jura mountain range. The trail winds gently through meadows and forests on a pleasant climb. As you gain altitude, the view gradually opens up to the Truchet viewpoint, perched at an altitude of 1,187 metres. From there, you can take in the Haute Chaîne du Jura, with views of the peaks from Colomby de Gex to the Reculet cross. The Jura mountains can be seen from a different angle, with colours that change with the seasons. The return journey follows the same route, offering a new perspective on the valley.

This pleasant walk along the water is open from April to November. It borders the first classified wild river in France, which gave its name to the valley. The Valserine has shaped the landscape with its floods and punctuated the lives of the inhabitants, as evidenced by the remains of several mills and the region's stone-cutting tradition. The route passes through woodland paths, meadows and duckboards, and is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility.

From Lélex, climb up to Crêt de la Neige (1,720 m), the highest point in the Jura, with an exceptional panorama of Mont Blanc and the Alps. The stage ends at Crêt de Chalam (1,545 m). Protected area: dogs and tent camping are prohibited in the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve.

Between unspoilt nature and rural heritage, this hike in the Valserine Valley reveals several authentic hamlets whose lives were once punctuated by rivers and agriculture. From Chézery-Forens, the trail passes through several peaceful, green villages and hamlets nestled among forests, meadows and small streams, leading to the ruins of the Moulin Thomas mill, which was in operation in the 18th century. Nearby, the footbridge spanning the Valserine river bears witness to the historic floods that shaped the landscape. Take a detour to discover the blessed fountain, a place of pilgrimage and devotion dedicated to Saint Roland who, according to legend, caused a spring to gush forth, whose water was supposed to cure headaches, stomach aches and eye diseases.

Starting from Chézery-Forens, I propose a lovely route to the Monts Jura between Le Gralet and Menthières. On the whole, it's a relatively easy route in a wooded environment punctuated by a few open spots offering some fine views.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. This hike for experienced walkers leads to majestic peaks steeped in history. A true immersion in unspoilt wilderness, passing through ancient clandestine paths... A demanding excursion through deep forests and green mountain pastures, following in the footsteps of the "smugglers" who, in the 18th century, used these discreet paths to transport their clandestine goods. Starting from Chézery-Forens, the route follows the wild Valserine river before beginning the ascent to the Reculet, which rises to 1,719 metres. Topped by its famous cross erected in 1892, this summit offers breathtaking views of the Lake Geneva basin and Mont Blanc on a clear day. The descent towards the alpine chalets (La Polvette and La Capitaine) joins the Chézerands pass and the hamlet of Rosset. The Reculet cross, weighing 1,600 kg, was hoisted on the backs of four inhabitants of Thoiry.

A breathtaking view. This hike is a round trip to Crêt de Chalam where, on a clear day, you will have a 360° panorama of the Jura and the Alps. At the summit, there are two orientation tables.

Open from 1 April to 30 November, subject to snow conditions. A challenging but accessible hike in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura for lovers of wide open spaces. From the village of Échenevex, the trail crosses meadows and woods before beginning the ascent to the Col de Branveau. Here you can often see friendly chamois and heifers grazing in the mountain pastures, enjoying the beautiful weather and the breathtaking panorama of the Jura ridges. The climb continues to the summit of Mont Chanais at 1,446 metres, where a 360° view rewards walkers for their efforts. From here, you can admire Mont Blanc, the Alps and the valley below, before descending this route in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura.

Here is a circular route to reach Crêt de Chalam from Chézery-Forens: the outward journey follows a little-known route via Montagne des Moines (you won't meet many people). The return journey follows the "classic" route.

Head for the Borne au Lion via paths that are less frequented than those starting from La Pesse. The route takes you through forests and rolling pastures typical of this region. This hike can be done on foot or with snowshoes, and the landscapes are beautiful in both summer and winter. The route is easy, with regular signposting.

This circuit, emblematic of the Grande Marche Populaire de Gex, follows the ridges of the Haute Chaîne before descending into the forest along the Journans. The route passes through varied landscapes: mountain pastures, deciduous and coniferous forests. It runs through the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and, in part, the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve, a protected area that must be treated with respect. Hike accessible from 16 May to 30 November. Set off from Gex on a loop to the Col de Branveau, passing through the Platières mountain pastures. Formerly part of the Petite Marche Populaire de Gex, this varied circuit offers beautiful views of the Haute Chaîne du Jura and the Alps. It passes through forests of deciduous and coniferous trees before a refreshing descent along the Journans.
