Description of the walk

(S) From the tourist office, turn left towards La Vieille Chapelle on the yellow PR® trail, passing the shops and the ESF until you reach the two-way road. Take the Chemin du Moulin Neuf, head down towards the Valserine, cross the bridge and take the path on the right.

(1) At Moulin Neuf, turn right onto the PR® and follow the Valserine for 2 km towards the Crochat bridge, passing by the Moulin Pierre-Louis.

(2) The path climbs, crosses a dirt track and begins its ascent towards La Pralouse. The climb is steep and wooded; the route skirts the ruins of La Pralouse, continues to the right until the slope levels off and reaches Sous-Croaby.

(3) At this junction, turn left onto the dirt track which climbs gradually towards the Haut Jura plateau. A hundred metres further on, continue straight on towards Croaby. The landscape opens up to reveal pretty sinkholes, a typical Jura landscape, until you reach the junction with the D292 road.

(4) Walk alongside the road to the right for less than 500 m, pass a house and continue to the next junction with a forest track.

(5) Turn left onto the PR® towards the Cariche chapel. After the chapel, continue straight on for a few dozen metres until the next junction.

(6) Turn right onto the GR® towards Les Platières. The undulating path winds through a pretty valley, follows a short climb then a descent, goes round two houses on the left and joins the forest at the end of the valley, leading to the Éneva crossroads.

(7) Continue straight on along the GR®. At the Chemin de l’Alouette, near the Chalet Saint-Patrice, join a forest track on the left and follow it for 1 km to the road at the hamlet of Le Manon.

(8) Cross the hamlet of Le Manon and take the second forest track on the right, still on the GR®.

(9) At the end of the valley, take the path on the left towards Mijoux. The route descends to the Goulette crossroads.

(10) Head down to the right towards the first houses of Mijoux and join the road leading to the church.

(11) Turn right just before the church and head down into the village centre, where this stage ends (E) .

Worth a visit

The Cariche Chapel is a small chapel located in the Jura Mountains, in the heart of a natural landscape of valleys, forests and pastures. Built in 1936 by Canon Pierre Petit, it was constructed for the children of a summer camp in the region.

This simple wooden chapel is now located in a quiet and isolated spot, often discovered by hikers or cross-country skiers exploring the Hautes-Combes. It overlooks the surrounding area and offers beautiful views of the Jura landscape.
