The Truchet viewpoint from Lélex

Open from 1 December to 30 March.

A balcony hike with beautiful views of the Valserine Valley and the village of Lélex, overlooked by the high Jura mountain range.

The trail winds gently through meadows and forests on a pleasant climb. As you gain altitude, the view gradually opens up to the Truchet viewpoint, perched at an altitude of 1,187 metres. From there, you can take in the Haute Chaîne du Jura, with views of the peaks from Colomby de Gex to the Reculet cross. The Jura mountains can be seen from a different angle, with colours that change with the seasons. The return journey follows the same route, offering a new perspective on the valley.

Description of the walk

From Mijoux, take the D991 towards Chézery-Florens and park in Lélex, at an altitude of 900 metres, in the car park opposite the cable car and the Tourist Office.

The route is marked for snowshoes.
Yellow markings "Le Truchet" and a very small section marked in red and white by the GR®.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the road south and continue straight on atthe first crossroads, ignoring the dead end on the left, then keep left at the next crossroads. Shortly afterwards, ignore a dead end on the left to reach the crossroads with the Route du Frenet.

(1) Turn right to follow it. Pass the tennis courts and cross the Pont de la Fruitière bridge.

(2) Leave the road and take Chemin des Bals, continuing straight ahead. Turn right at the first bend, then left at the next, to continue towards La Crosse (house). Cross part of a wood, then walk along it and continue along the edge of the forest until you reach a fork.

(3) Take the path on the far right and enter the woods. Continue uphill until you reach the Truchet viewpoint crossroads.

(4) Turn right and you will soon reach the Truchet viewpoint.

(5) Enjoy the view and return to the starting point by retracing your steps (S/E).
