Description of the walk

Start via the PR® from Bellecombe.

(S) To the left of the town hall, take the PR® on the right, marked in yellow, towards the Humberts’ house.

(1) At the junction with the Route de la Grand'Vie, turn right and then, after 50 m, turn left onto a track. Follow the yellow PR® via Les Humberts, then head into the forest. Leave the forest track to join a narrower path on the left, continuing straight on towards Croaby.

(2) Before reaching Croaby, at the Pralouse crossroads, keep straight on, following the yellow markings for 1.3 km along the path which eventually joins a valley and a forest track.

(3) At the junction, take the track on the left and continue along this yellow-marked path via Croaby, until you reach Route de la Simard.

(4) Follow it to the right for 400 m until you rejoin the path on the left to reach Cariche.

(5) Staying on the yellow-marked PR®, head towards the Cariche chapel, a few hundred metres further on.

(6) A few metres past the chapel, a junction leads to the GR®; take it to the right towards Les Platières; the terrain here is quite undulating and offers a lovely view of the Haute Chaîne du Jura. After returning to the forest, the route reaches a fork towards L’Éneva.

(7) Continue straight on along the GR®.

(8) At the Chemin de l’Alouette, near Chalet Saint-Patrice, leave the path and join a forest track on the left; continue along this for 1 km until you reach the road leading to the hamlet of Le Manon.

(9) Take another forest track on the right, just after L’Étincelle, still on the GR®.

(10) At the end of the valley, leave the forest track and take a path on the left, heading towards Mijoux. The route descends and leads to the Goulette crossroads.

(11) Continue down to the right to reach the first houses of the village of Mijoux. You’ll come to a road leading to the church.

(12) Turn right onto it just before the church and head down into the heart of the village, where this stage ends (E).

Worth a visit

The Cariche Chapel is a small chapel located in the Jura Mountains, in the heart of a natural landscape of valleys, forests and pastures. Built in 1936 by Canon Pierre Petit, it was constructed for the children of a summer camp in the region.

This simple wooden chapel is now located in a quiet and isolated spot, often discovered by hikers or cross-country skiers exploring the Hautes-Combes. It overlooks the surrounding area and offers beautiful views of the Jura landscape.
