Gadancourt walks

The French Vexin region has numerous megalithic sites dating from the late third millennium B.C. This walk gives you the chance to visit a dolmen in a perfect state of preservation. As you stroll through the fields and woods, you will also be able to see some lovely churches and castles.

This mainly forest hike will take you to the Galluis Regional Forest, then on to the village of Frémainville, where you will discover some interesting heritage sites. It is best to do this walk during the dry season.

Whilst the Morval Departmental Forest is well known to walkers, the village of Banthelu lies off the usual routes. But this little village is well worth a detour, if only for its history, as is Cléry-en-Vexin, which you also pass through before discovering the covered walkway of Bois Couturier.

This hike through woods and fields offers beautiful views of the Viosne Valley, a small river that flows through the Vexin Français from north to south, with interesting heritage in the village of Brignancourt and a possible stop at the edge of a beautiful pond.

This is a route for walkers who enjoy charming, forgotten little paths that make you forget you’re only 50 km from Paris; however, the route is sometimes unclear, requiring careful attention (Visorando app recommended). These paths are not always regularly maintained: bare legs are not recommended.

At the southern edge of the French Vexin, a loop that starts along the Montcient river, with the old Moulin Brûlé, and then alternates between ascents and descents in the woods or between fields.

In the southern French Vexin region, this circuit takes you through fields and woods, playing leapfrog with the River Montcient. The Cave aux Fées, a covered passage dating from 2500 BC, bears witness to ancient human occupation. A dovecote, an old water mill and several wash houses are also worth seeing.

This walk retraces the Battle of Vexin at the end of August 1944 thanks to the numerous explanatory panels placed along the route.

Starting from the charming village of Brueil en Vexin, you will pass La Cave aux Fées, a Neolithic burial site dating from around 2000 BCE. Then, through a varied, hilly landscape, you will discover a few hamlets and a village with its wash house and old bridge.

Alternating between cultivated fields and forest edges, this hike follows the Viosne River. For a little over 2 km, the route follows the route of an ancient Roman road, the Chaussée Jules César.

A circular route for a day's hike. Starting from Sagy, you will pass through Saillancourt, Villette, Condécourt, Longuesse and Vigny.

Seventh stage of the Grand Tour of Île-de-France on the GR®11, starting from the village of Genainville, in the heart of the French Vexin, and heading towards Chars station further east. This stage goes hand in hand with the previous Mantes-Genainville stage, with a night in Genainville or the surrounding area necessary to walk between Mantes and Chars stations. This beautiful stage continues the crossing of the equally magnificent French Vexin Regional Nature Park, heading generally eastwards. It joins andthen climbs up the Aubette de Magny valley, crosses a series of agricultural plateaus between Oise and Val d'Oise before descending into the Viosne valley to reach Chars.

A circular route to explore a little-known part of the French Vexin Nature Park. Passing through the Aubette Valley and the Gerville Valley, you’ll discover the Gerville Tower, the remains of a former 12th-century commandery, and the 18th-century Château de Magnitot. This route can be complemented by a stroll through the old streets of Magny-en-Vexin.

An easy route that takes you through the varied landscapes of the Vexin region to discover the fortified farm of Méré and the Château de Villarceaux.

A water-themed hike: from the meanders of the Aubette to the springs that enliven the Vexin region.

This is the eighth stage of the Grand Tour de l'Île-de-France on the GR®11, starting from Chars station in the Val d'Oise and heading towards Bornel-Belle-Église station in the Oise, through the north-eastern part of the French Vexin and the borders of the Pays de Thelle. This stage is unique in that it runs along the border between the Val d'Oise and Oise departments, with roughly 50% of the route on each side. The proposed itinerary passes through the Buttes de Rosne, the highest natural point in Île-de-France, although it deviates slightly from the GR® for this.

A pleasant and varied hike in the heart of the French Vexin. The route begins with a circular route north of Chars, between fields, meadows and small woods. After the beautiful church of Chars, there are alternating ascents and descents on the slopes of the south bank of the Viosne. The church and old mill in Brignancourt are a heritage stop before heading up the right bank of the Viosne along the edge of a wetland.

Walk starting from Chars SNCF station passing the Château de Saint-Cyr-sur-Chars. On the way back to Chars there is a narrow pedestrian passage that starts with a staircase.

A long hike from station to station that veers away from the Seine Valley (which is not particularly suitable for hiking in this area) and climbs to higher ground. The route alternates between wooded sections and stretches through fields with sweeping views. There is a wealth of heritage to discover, with two beautiful Romanesque churches in the first part and, towards the end and as a grand finale, the Gothic Collegiate Church of Mantes-la-Jolie.

This walk can be started from Meulan-Hardricourt station and follows marked paths for a good part of the way, even if they are not always easy to identify, particularly the access tothe GR® 2. During this walk, you can see the church of Hardricourt, pass through fields, see La Défense, enjoy the undergrowth, admire the pretty village of Mézy-sur-Seine and, if you are feeling adventurous, dip your feet in the water (in summer) and enjoy the banks of the Seine. Please note that in cold weather, some sections of the forest may be muddy and difficult to walk on.

This is a circular route starting from Saint-Gervais, a village in the French Vexin region. The route is unique in that it passes through all the hamlets in the municipality. The starting point is in the centre of the village, in front of the town hall.

Half urban, half rural route to discover old Meulan-en-Yvelines and the views over the Aubette and Seine valleys.

A lovely walk along the banks of the Seine, passing through pretty villages such as Evecquemont. The starting point and finishing point are two stations on the same SNCF line.

Starting from the banks of the Seine opposite Île Verte, walk up the narrow streets and paths to Villa Paul Poiret.

During your walk, you will discover this beautiful little village, including its church and wash houses, as well as the surrounding countryside.

A circular route which, on the outward journey, follows theGR®1from Vaux-sur-Seine to Sagy. The route passes very close to the Châteaux de Villette and Vaux. Before reaching the finish, the route runs alongside the Seine for a few hundred metres.
