Description of the walk

Park in the church car park - 4 Rue de l'Église, 78250 Oinville-sur-Montcient.

(S/E) When leaving the car park, turn right and go down Rue de l'Église. Cross Rue des Thurets on the left and continue along Rue de la Mathurine.

(1) At the next intersection, turn right. The tarmac quickly gives way to a dirt track. Pass under the high-voltage power lines and join a small road (reservoir).

(2) Take thefirst dirt track on the right between the fields. Further on, walk along the Bois de Dalibray on your left. At the T-junction, turn left and you will soon come to a fork.

(3) Take the path on the right. Cross straight ahead (south-east) through the Bois des Juliens, ignoring any tracks on either side. You will rejoin the tarmac road at a riding centre.

(4) Turn right at an acute angle onto a path between horse pastures. Then cross a wooded area and continue to a clearing.

(5) At the T-junction, first turn right then left to follow the GR®2 (red and white markings). Enter a wood and continue to a four-way junction.

(6) Turn right onto the GR®2. Cross Chemin de la Gueule Rouge and continue straight ahead until you reach a tarmac road.

(7) Then turn right. After about 200 m, turn left (straight ahead is private property). At the T-junction, first turn right then left (only follow the GR® for a few metres). Descend and reach a crossroads under high-voltage power lines.

(8) Then turn left. After the power lines, ignore a turn-off on the left and continue west into a wood. At a crossroads (elevation 153), turn right. You will come out onto a road; follow it to the right for about 350 metres.

(9) Turn left onto the path, then turn right onto the path on the right.

(10) At the crossroads, turn left and pass in front of the Moulin Brûlé. You will come out onto the D913; follow it to the right. After about 300 m, take Rue de Bachambre on the right until you reach a crossroads. Continue along Rue de l'École to quickly reach the church car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(10) The Moulin Brûlé
Le Moulin Brûlé, or Moulin de Bonival. It was used to grind grain until at least 1852, as there is evidence of a miller working there that year. It was later converted into a small mechanical workshop (watch chains, cigar cutters, corkscrews, etc.). After a long period of disuse, it was used to power a turbine to generate electricity. It had to cease operations in 1973 when the axle of its wheel deteriorated.

Very nice route. The short stretch of road after point 8 can be avoided by continuing straight ahead, then turning left and rejoining the route.
Many thanks for all your hard work.

This hike is also listed in the guidebook "Les Yvelines à pied" (Walking in the Yvelines). However, it is not particularly interesting. There are no technical difficulties, just a long walk through the woods on trails, no panoramic views, no particular points of interest, and no villages to pass through. The forest is a hunting reserve with nothing particularly interesting to see. The advantage is that you won't see anyone else and you'll be well sheltered under the trees: ideal for summer, if you feel like stretching your legs and you live in the area.
Suggestion: at the very end, on your return to Oinville, do not go up Rue de l'Ecole. Before that, in Rue de Bachambre, look carefully at the signposts: they will tell you to turn left along the stream. You will then pass along a dirt track between the gardens. Continue to the end of the path, which leads to a wash house and then to the town hall square. Cross the square and join the green corridor park and the red and white PR markings. You will then walk up under the apple trees to the church. It's very pretty.
