Description of the walk

Start from the car park by the church and castle in Vigny.

Yellow markings (sparse)

(S/E) With your back to the church entrance, head straight on and take the D169 towards Us.

(1) Take the first right, Rue Marie, towards the cemetery. Ignore a dead-end on the left, climb gently and pass in front of the cemetery. Leave Place de la Caffine on your left and you will soon come to a junction (with ‘No Entry’ signs opposite).

(2) Turn right onto a track. Follow the wall of a property on your right. Ignore a property entrance on the right and continue along the edge of the woodland. The track then gives way to a path through the undergrowth alongside a fence on the right. Leave the woodland and continue along the path at the edge of the woods and then through the fields.

(3) Cross a small road and continue along the well-marked path opposite. The path alternates between the edges of fields and woods. Ignore a turn-off on the left (elevation 124) and continue south-east. You will reach a small road running alongside the D28.

(4) Follow the small road to the right and enter Le Grand Mesnil. Ignore another road on the left and turn right onto the Route de Villeneuve and head downhill.

(5) At the stop sign, continue straight ahead. Enter Sagy and, at the fork immediately ahead, turn right and walk past the cemetery on your right.

(6) Cross the D81, pass by the foot of Sagy church and head downhill. At the bottom, turn right onto Rue de l'Abreuvoir.

Yellow + Red and White markings

At the next junction, turn right, go under a metal archway and walk alongside a football stadium on your left. Cross the River Aubette and arrive at a small car park on the left.

(7) Go straight ahead, pass through a metal barrier and walk alongside the river on your left. Ignore an access point to a private pond on the left and continue along the main path heading north-west then north-north-west. You will reach a junction with a road.

Yellow markings (rare)

(8) Turn left onto Rue de l'Aubette. At the next junction, turn right onto Grande Rue. Pass the town hall and then the church.

(9) At the fork, turn left onto the D169 towards Vigny. Soon after, take the first left, Rue des Baudes. Continue straight ahead, ignoring the side streets on the left, and climb gently.

(10) At the junction with a stone cross on the right-hand side, take the second path on the right, heading north-west. Walk for a long stretch through the fields and climb gently.

(11) At the T-junction, turn right. Ignore a turn-off to the left and then one to the right, and head downhill.

No signposting

(12) At the junction just before a road, turn right (south-east). Pass a solitary tree some distance away on the left and then ignore a path branching off to the right.

Yellow markings

(13) At the next junction (benches), continue straight ahead and follow the wall of the Château de Vigny park on your left.

Yellow + Red and White markings

(14) At the crossroads, take the first left, Rue de la Comté, and walk between the houses. Note an (abandoned) outbuilding of the château on the left, then a wash house on the right. Walk alongside Vigny Church on your left and immediately reach its car park (S/E).

Beautiful views and lovely villages along the way. It's a shame that over 40% of the route is on tarmac roads. The road was quite busy on Sunday.

A walk enjoyed in glorious spring sunshine. Perhaps best avoided in summer as there is little shade. The paths are varied and the scenery lovely, though the final stretch along the fields is a bit long and monotonous

A lovely little hike in the Vexin.
Beautiful scenery, varied, not too difficult... We really enjoyed it. Thank you very much!
We’ll be back as soon as possible.
Note: there’s a lovely picnic spot 5.5 km out of the village of Sagy, along the water (the Aubette stream and the Petites Auges pond), about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes after setting off.

A pleasant walk for the mid-season (with little shade) featuring an easy route through typical Vexin villages, where the notable buildings (castle, church, wash house, old farm) are marked with small information panels detailing their history. The few sections on tarmac are along quiet roads.

A pleasant, easy walk that’s very well described; avoid doing it on a hot day or when it’s raining, as a large part of the route (points 10 to 14) is very exposed. Walking through the villages is enjoyable; there’s a bit of road, but it’s not busy
