A very pleasant route in the Vexin countryside with, along the way, three beautiful medieval churches featuring Romanesque and Gothic elements.

Description of the walk

Departure from Nucourt Town Hall. Parking available at Place Jean-Marc Gernigon, located between the war memorial and the town hall.

Red and white markings

(S/E) Start by leaving the town hall, then the war memorial on your right. Cross the main street (Rue de Paris on the left, Rue de la Gare on the right) and follow Rue de l'Arche opposite.

(1) Take the first right, Chemin de l'Huisset. Soon, the tarmac gives way to a country lane. Continue straight ahead with the church of Nucourt in full view (the church is isolated from the village). You will come to a small road, follow it to the left and you will soon reach a crossroads (metal cross).

Yellow markings

(2) Turn right, pass under a stone arch and you will soon reach the cemetery, inside which the church is located. Continue along the path and go downhill. At a crossroads (half marked on the IGN map), continue straight ahead. Ignore a path on the left (not marked on the IGN map) and go uphill.

(3) At the intersection (large house on the left), follow a small road on the left that climbs through a shaded area. Pass the entrance to Camp de César (the name of the large house), then leave Nucourt via the D206.

Red and white markings (extremely rare due to lack of support)

Ignore a yellow arrow that invites you to turn left onto a path and stay on the road for about 50 metres.

(4) Then turn right onto a path (GR®11but no arrow or marker here). Walk west-northwest then northwest between the fields, heading for the village of Hadancourt-le-Haut-Clocher, whose church tower and water tower are clearly visible. Much further on, ignore a path on the left, walk along a fence and cross a copse. You will come to a perpendicular path. Follow it to the left and you will immediately come to a triangular crossroads (cross).

No markings

(5) Keep left and leave the cross on your right. Follow a small road northwards and pass by the water tower. You will come to another triangular crossroads (calvary) and turn right to reach the church of Hadancourt-le-Haut-Clocher.

(6) With your back to the church entrance, retrace your steps briefly, leave the calvary on your left, turn right onto the main street and leave the war memorial on your left. At a fork in the road near the town hall, take the left-hand path.

(7) Cross Route de Magny (D153) and follow the small road opposite towards Lèvemont. Pass the cemetery and climb uphill. Ignore another small road on the right and continue towards Lèvemont. At the top, turn left with the road and you will immediately reach an intersection.

Red and white markings

(8) Cross a dead end on the left and continue straight ahead. Pass a forest barrier and continue along a grassy path. Walk along a garden fence on your right.

(9) Shortly before the end of the fence, turn left onto a discreet path (be careful to spot this start). Descend into a wood. Soon, the path is joined by a parallel path on the right: the two meet further on. At a fork (not shown on the map), turn right and continue downhill. On the left, you can see the church of Serans through the branches. At a T-junction, turn left and walk along a fenced meadow on your right. You will come to a small road.

(10) Turn left and you will soon reach the Church of Saint-Denis de Serans. Retrace your steps.

(10) Continue straight ahead and, opposite the entrance to the Château de Serans, turn left into Rue de la Mairie. Find the D153, cross it and follow it to the left. At the corner of the war memorial, turn right. Walk along the cemetery on your right and continue along a field path. Shortly afterwards, at a fork, keep right on a grassy path. Between the fields, keep heading south-west.

(11) At a crossroads, turn left. Further on, ignore a turn-off on the right, pass a copse on the right-hand side and descend gently.

(12) At a three-way junction, turn right (old quarry on the left, potential shelter in case of rain). Follow a shaded path south-southwest.

(13) Ignore a path coming from the left (signpost). Pass a spring on the left and, at the next junction, go straight ahead.

(14) At the T-junction, turn left. At the fork shortly after, turn right and follow Chemin de la Cressonnière. The tarmac soon gives way to a grassy path. Go uphill, ignore a path coming from the right and turn left towards the clearly visible church of Nucourt.

(2) At the crossroads, follow the road to the right. Shortly afterwards, when the road turns left, turn right onto a path.

(1) Turn left. At the crossroads, go straight ahead and you will soon return to the car park where you started (S/E).

As a fan of the Vexin region, I had to try all the available routes, so I jumped at the chance to try this new itinerary.
I had a great time!
I knew Nucourt, but not the route from there to Hadancourt and Serans. I discovered some superb new sites, as is usually the case in this region.
The road section between 3 and 4 isn't the best, that's for sure, but after that it's magnificent. I loved the descent from Lèvemont to Serans, that little forest path. And what beautiful sites and churches!
In Lèvemont, take a little detour to the end of the cul-de-sac by the wash house for a lovely view.
Be careful, in hot weather, the open sections can be very hot, but today it was perfect. And there was little mud despite the recent rains.
Back in Nucourt, I hadn't noticed the time passing, so I did another circular route, heading straight for the horse pastures and even going back to the fountain path and returning via the road in front of César's camp. Alternatively, to extend the route, you can push on to Magny from Nucourt church.
Here's a short video of the route.
