Description of the walk

(S/E) Opposite the château, turn right and then right again at the corner of a wash house onto Chemin du Hazay. Continue left, then right (still on Chemin du Hazay). Ignore two streets on the right and continue down the dead-end road (Sentier du Bigard).

(1) Then turn right onto a dirt road. Keep right at the various intersections.

(2) On the descent, at an old reservoir, turn left and continue straight ahead on the rough track (you can take the path slightly to the right, which avoids the worst potholes).

(3) At the cement hut, turn left and continue along a rough track (passable on the right). At elevation 148, take the second track on the left (south-west).

(4) At the next junction, at the edge of the forest, continue straight ahead and continue straight ahead across the plain. Cross a small road and, at the next junction, take the grassy path that continues straight ahead (west). Enter the village of Lainville via a tarmac road (Chemin du Maléra). At the Croix de la Renoncière, continue right along the one-way street (Rue au Canes).

(5) At the foot of the church, turn left (PR®®41), cross the D205 and continue right downhill on Chemin de la Côte Duché. Pass a wash house and go up opposite.

(6) At the top of the hill, at the first crossroads, turn left and walk through the woods along a wire fence. When you reach the hamlet of Les Bonnes Joies, continue right on the road.

(7) Just before leaving the village, turn left onto Chemin de Mégrimont. Keep left at the various intersections.

(8) When you reach Maison Deschamps, directly below the wrought-iron balcony, take the path on the right and descend towards the village of Montalet-le-Bois.

(9) When you reach a road, turn right (Chemin de la Croix Damply).

(10) At the fork, turn left onto Chemin du Vieux Moulin des Prés.
You will come out in Damply. Take the D205 for about 50 metres and turn right onto Chemin de la Carrière.

(11) After about 20 metres, turn left (east) onto Chemin de Damply.

(12) Turn left, cross the Bernon stream and continue straight ahead, crossing the D205, then climb up Chemin des Noquets (a long, steep climb). At the top, follow the wall of the Centre des Scouts de France, keeping it on your right, to return to the starting point (S/E).

We definitely had no luck with this route.
After having to turn back after 45 minutes because it was hunting season, this time it was the 4x4s that ruined the hike.
That day, there was a gathering of 4x4s, probably the same hunters who hang out in the forest, so there was the roar of engines between points 1 and 4

But otherwise, it was a nice hike.

Scouts gathering... exceptionally.
A few potholes at the start...
i plan to do it again, hoping to avoid the quad bikes.
A varied hike through village paths and roads.

Hello everyone
Thank you for mapping out this hike on Saturday, 16 November 2024.

I found the route very disappointing because when you come across a hunter standing guard at point number 3 and he tells you that you can't continue because his colleagues are positioned between points 3 and 4, you feel really let down!
There were no signs on the path beforehand.

When your wife feels unwell and all she wants is to go home, 40 minutes from the starting point, you realise that you don't share the same passions: hiking vs hunting!

So we turned back

We'll do it again, but when?

A very beautiful and varied hike. Lovely landscapes. A little spoiled in the forest by a gathering of 4x4s... I'll definitely do it again!

Beautiful hike under sunny skies with varied landscapes, discovery of the castle along the way, well-marked trail. At the end of the hike, a visit to the castle grounds rounded off a lovely afternoon. I highly recommend it.

Very pleasant hike, the description is very clear. A little inconvenience from the quad club at the beginning, which contributes to the very rough and muddy paths during this winter period.

Discover the elegant castle. A pleasant, easy walk in varied surroundings (woods, hills, fields), completely peaceful. We may have come across two or three families and... for us, as Paris residents obliged to wear masks (which is fine), it was a relief to walk without one!

Route completed in good weather (28°C). Varied paths through woodland and countryside. Easy hike.
At point 2, we didn't see a cistern like others have mentioned. However, the author could specify that you should turn left at point 2 after crossing (going around) an iron barrier. At least it's visible.
At point 8, magnificent view of the rolling countryside...and the distant towers of La Défense. You can see the Eiffel Tower (41 km as the crow flies).

A lovely route that alternates between pretty villages and woodland (which is particularly welcome when it's hot). The final climb to Jambville is steep but fairly short.
With a little care, it is easy to follow the route.

Hello

The route map is unreliable in Montalet les Bois (the yellow signs lead down to the D205)

This is the choice of the author of the walk.

  • The route is unreliable at Montalet les Bois (the yellow signs lead down to the D205)
  • In rainy weather, the section between points 2 and 4 can be very muddy and difficult to ride

Apart from that, we really enjoyed this very pleasant route
