Die walks

Circular on trails, paths and tracks, visiting some of the characteristic sites of the Justin mountain, Pas du Renard, forest lodge, Bât de l'Âne. Beautiful views of the peaks of the southern Vercors and more wooded areas.

Leave the road to Die and, at the mouth of a narrow gorge, you will find yourself in front of a welcoming valley that ends at the gigantic rock face of the Glandasse. Isolation, abundant water, forests and farmland framed by limestone cliffs: you may find yourself in a state of ecstasy... just like the Cistercian monks who settled in Vallis Crescens, the starting point of the hike, in November 1188

The Crête de Ramiat is the flagship hike from Sainte-Croix, and rightly so! Admittedly, there is a bit of road at the start, but then there are wide paths or well-marked trails and, above all, splendid panoramic views of the Drôme Valley and the Vercors. The passage along the ridge can be tricky in short sections for those prone to vertigo and requires sure-footedness in places. However, it is possible to avoid this section without missing out on the beauty of the landscape.

Tour of the small villages and hamlet of the Quint valley.

Easy hike from the pretty village of Pontaix. Ascent through the Grand Barry Forest. Descent into the Ravin des Lots. The ruins of the castle are worth visiting for the view over the Drôme, and from the village you can access the waterfalls and pools of the Ruisseau des Lots.

This is a very short route, the main purpose of which is to explore the waterfalls and their pools, just a stone's throw from Pontaix. A short detour to the heights will allow you to see the castle ruins and enjoy views of the Drôme valley.

On a clear day, the Serre Chauvière plateau offers a magnificent 360° panorama of the peaks of Devoluy, Vercors, Baronnies and Diois. A major effort has been made to re-mark and clear the trails on this superb hike, which adds considerable value.

This hike takes you around the Montagne de Nève from the Col du Rousset via the Col de Saint-Alexis, the climb to the But de Nève and the Col de Chironne. The forest section allows you to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours, while the But de Nève offers stunning panoramic views of Font d'Urle, the But Saint-Genix, the But de l'Aiglette, the Veymont mountain range and the Montagne de Glandasse.

The start is at the Col du Rousset, on the Chamaloc side. If you want to see the Col de Rousset from a different angle, take this hike, which follows a magnificent path carved into the mountainside, with a via ferrata above if you feel so inclined. This path was used by mule drivers to reach Vassieux via the Col de Chironne. You will also admire the magnificent Chironne rocks overlooking the Chamaloc valley.

A family hike that will allow you to discover both sides of the Diois and the Vassieux plateau. No major difficulties in finding your way, just follow theGR®93.

Loop starting from the Col du Rousset, setting off along the superb old mule track carved into the hillside, then skirting the plain of the Bergerie de Chironne to reach the Col de Vassieux refuge in the forest. Return via the path overlooking the Diois valley, via the But de l'Aiglette and the Rochers de Chironne. A hike offering a variety of landscapes, overlooking the Diois valley, without being vertiginous. Some hikers have even spotted vultures here.

A superb hike offering breathtaking views of the Vercors plateau accompanied by the flight of vultures! Best done in good weather for unobstructed views.

This is a long hike across the Vercors Highlands, which cover all the environments of the largest nature reserve in mainland France: large pine forests, vast plateaus and the steep cliffs of the eastern barrier of the Vercors. In addition to the magnificent landscapes, the flora and fauna of the Highlands will delight you even more.

Hike across the Vercors plateau to discover the famous Roman quarries and the remains of their ruins.

A day's walk to discover the diversity of the landscapes of the Vercors Regional Nature Park's high plateaus and their exceptional flora and fauna.

A very beautiful circuit, mostly in the forest and therefore quite shaded, with a magnificent view once you reach the ruins of Barry Castle.

Starting from Vercheny-le-Temple (or Vercheny le Haut), this is a very pretty hike on easy trails and paths, providing access to one of the ridges of the Grand Barry-Gaudichart, as well as the ruined castle of Barry. Exceptional panoramic views of the Vercors, the Baronnies and the Diois. The return journey is partly via the western slope, offering another panorama of the Saoû ridges, and partly via the eastern slope, via the Pas de la Bernarde, which has been cleared between the rocks (no equipment required).

Starting from Col du Rousset, head towards the Queyrie valley, where you will find the ancient Roman quarries, the famous carved tree, and a breathtaking view of the Grand Veymont. This is a fairly long hike, but the landscapes are magnificent, and you may even see marmots and their young, as well as griffon vultures soaring in the sky.

Hike on the Beurre plateau to discover Veymont, Tête du Faisan, the landscapes of Diois and maybe even spot some marmots! From May to September only.

I suggest taking a short walk to the heights of the village of Châtillon-en-Diois to reach the Cascade de l'Adoux waterfall. The route is mainly through the woods, punctuated by some pretty views. Please note: some sections require careful footing.

The aim of the route is to reach the summit of Glandasse mountain (known as the Dôme or Pié Ferré - 2,041 metres above sea level) via an alternative routeto the GR®91: Pié de Boeuf, near the Col de Caux (overlooking the Baïn valley), Fontaine des Tuiles (dominated by the Roc d'Ambane). The return journey is via theGR®91.

From Saint-Benoît, a hilltop village and strategic point, climb up the paths once used by farmers through the sunny south-facing slopes. They offer breathtaking views of the Roanne Gorges.
