Start from the car park on the right, at the entrance to the village.
(S/E) Continue on the D565 to the right to enter the village.
(1) At the first junction, turn right towards the north onto a narrow lane (Chemin du Raille) which soon becomes a road and then a track. Follow the vineyards, ignoring the tracks branching off to the right and left that lead to them. Continue along this main track for about 20 minutes.
(2) At a fork in the road (after two clearly marked right-left bends), turn left, heading north-east, onto the track that climbs gently between the vineyards.
(3) After the last vineyard, the track gives way to a path crossing the valley and joining a wide track.
(4) Turn left towards the north and climb for a long time in wide hairpin bends through the forest.
(5) Near the ridge, at a barely marked pass, you’ll reach the start of a path on the left, clearly marked with a small Yellow Triangle (No. 143).
Out and back: temporarily leave this path to the left and continue for about 50 metres until you reach a crossroads of paths. Take the well-marked path climbing to the right, leading to the ridges of a rocky outcrop from where the 360° panorama is superb.
Return to the pass.
(5) Climb up the path now on the right. This will take you to the path on the other side of the slope; follow this path to the left until you reach a three-way junction and a 90° bend.
(6) Take a small path on the right about ten metres before the bend, climbing north-west towards the ridges. This small path is well marked and leads, after about 800 m, to a small step.
(7) Take the path on the left and climb up to the rocks on the ridge (easy access).
Then retrace your steps back to the bend.
(6) Then take the path on the left, at the signpost, leading to the ruins of Barry Castle, also a return trip
(8) Return to the signpost,
(6) On the left, rejoin the main path (marker no. 143) which descends into the valley, to the right of the glen.
(9) Just before the first hairpin bend, take a path on the right (signpost: Pas de la Bernarde) which climbs up to the north-south ridge leading from Gaudichart.
(10) At the junction on the ridge, turn left, heading south, to the next junction marked by a small cairn.
(11) At this junction, take the path on the left (the one on the right leads to Saillans via the Col des Vallons), descending gently to the next junction.
(12) Take the left-hand path, which winds down, passing below the Pas de la Bernarde. Continue along this path.
(13) At the next junction, head down the path on the right, which is slightly steeper, until you reach a track.
(14) Follow the stony track to the right. Stay on this main path, which climbs slightly and crosses a ravined area, passes some ruins and joins a small road. Follow it and pass between the houses to the car park at the starting point (S/E).
