Foot of Glandasse via the Marateste

At the foot of Montagne du Glandasse, I recommend a lovely walk in the hills above Châtillon-en-Diois.

Description of the walk

I suggest starting the route from the Champs de Foire in Châtillon-en-Diois (parking available).

(S/E) Head due east towards the town centre along Rue des Rostangs until you reach the clearly visible belfry.

(1) A pretty square opens up near Châtillon-en-Diois town hall: turn left and head due north along Montée du Tricot.

(2) Further up, follow the path on the right leading to the Cabanes de Châtillon, situated on the Glandasse plateau (follow the red-and-whiteGR® 91 markings). After a climb via a few hairpin bends, the route continues over some steep slopes.

(3) You’ll reach a fork at a place called Les Oursière. Continue to the right towards Col Gorodel (leaving theGR® trail and following a yellow-green route). The route continues over a few more fairly steep slopes.

(4) You arrive at a clear, open spot with some lovely views, then continue leftwards uphill.

(5) You’ll reach a forest track. Follow it to the right and, fairly soon, take the path on the left which climbs gently. You’ll come to a large crossroads.

(6) Take the path on the right, heading downhill towards Les Adrêts.

(7) After walking for a good kilometre, you’ll reach a junction with theGR®965; follow this path to the right, heading downhill. You’ll cross a forest track twice (make sure to turn right at thefirst junction).

(8) Much further down, you will cross a stream near the Forêt de Giono. Continue left along the path towards Châtillon-en-Diois until you reach the Chemin des Jardins, then turn right towards the centre of the village.

(1) Continue straight on and return to the starting point via the same route as on the way out (S/E).

Châtillon-en-Diois: a pretty village of medieval origin. For more information, please visit the Wikipedia website

Giono Forest: based on an idea by the artist Frédéric Back, the Drôme Department and the O.N.F. supported the creation of a forest area between 1989 and 1993, where over 3,700 children took part in planting trees. I encourage you to take a short detour along a lovely route that passes, in particular, by the source of the Adoux.

A lovely little hike with a fairly steep climb up to the viewpoint overlooking Chatillon and the southern Rio Gorges, followed by a bit of a laze, of course. The walk back in the height of summer must be very refreshing, as it takes you through the woods alongside a stream.
We were lucky enough to spot a beautiful bird of prey for five minutes at the viewpoint
On the way back, we strolled through the vineyards of Châtillon, discovering some unusual little paths

The hike starts with a 500-metre climb, so you’re straight into the swing of things. There’s plenty of shade, and despite the heat, we really enjoyed the scenery. Lots of flowers, loads of butterflies of all kinds, and a finish at a magnificent viewpoint. In short, I’d highly recommend it.

A lovely walk, very well described and easy to follow.
We did it with a six-and-a-half-year-old during the August heatwave, in the morning. Most of the route is through the forest, so we didn’t suffer too much from the heat.
The scenery is varied nonetheless. We absolutely loved this walk.

A very sunny day with a temperature of 28°C. Fortunately, most of the route is in the shade of the trees, mainly pines and oaks. Thank you.
