Rhône walks
A loop hike from col du Chatoux in the Haut Beaujolais region
From Col du chatoux (or col du Chêne), this hike goes through woods along the ridge line offering wonderful views:
-over the Saône and eastern Beaujolais valleys
- over Azergues Valley to the west.
The Brévenne Aqueduct from Duerne
This beautiful circular route from Duerne takes you along well-marked paths and tracks, often shaded, to discover the varied landscapes of this little-known part of the Monts du Lyonnais.
A small stele by the side of the road commemorates the sacrifice of the American pilots who crashed there in 1944.
At the end of the route, before heading back up towards Duerne, you can discover the astonishing remains of the Roman Aqueduct on the Brévenne.
Three castles and Sainte-Marie tour
The three châteaux in Quincié-en-Beaujolais are well worth a visit. What's more, you'll pass through a highly varied landscape of vineyards, forests and meadows.
The three châteaux trail is very well signposted and offers 4 variants of varying lengths.
Yzeron - Lakes and ridges
Loop trail starting from Yzeron, through varied landscapes. The trail passes around the small dam lake at the foot of Yzeron and then, at the end of the hike, along the Lac d'Yzeron, whose new facilities were inaugurated on 19/07/14.

A beautiful circular walk starting from the village of Yzeron, alternating between forest paths and clear views of Lyon and the Alps. In good weather, there is an exceptional view of the Alps: you can easily recognise Mont Blanc, the Belledonne massif, the Chartreuse, the Vercors and even (for those in the know) the Meije!
Part of the route follows the old (buried) aqueduct of Yzeron, which supplied Lyon with water in Gallo-Roman times (there are very informative signs along the route).
The Circuit around Py Froid
A very nice circuit around the Monts du Lyonnais to explore the climbing area at Py Froid.
The Dolmen path
This path is very pleasant in the Autumn, with a magnificent view of the monts d'Or, Lyon and the Rhone valley.
This route can be extended in the direction of Yzeron or Thurin.

From Couzon-au-Mont-d'Or to St Romain-au-Mont-d'Or via Mont Thoux
A Short yet tough hike through the Monts d'Or. Very nice in good weather and on dry ground.
Between the Châtoux and the Joncin mountain passes
A scenic walk between the mountain passes of Col du Châtoux and Col du Joncin.
The Bois Bouchat forest at the start of the Saint-Vincent Chapel
A scenic route through the forest with no difficulty, 95% of which is on paths.
Les Balcons de Sain-Bel: Savigny and Tour du Crét d'Arjoux
A short trip to the Monts du Lyonnais from Savigny, above Sain-Bel. A very beautiful walk through orchards with magnificent views of the Turdine, Azergues, Saône and Brévenne valleys and the surrounding mountains.
Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or - Mont Thou loop
This is an easy, shaded walk where you can see many orchids in April and a few restored drystone shelters. Mont Thou offers beautiful views of the Saône valley and the Ain plain, and even further depending on the weather.
Drystone shelters are dry stone structures found in the Monts d'Or.
Le Bas Marjon
A pleasant half-day walk along paths and through woods with beautiful views of the region.
Dommartin Dardilly
Warm up in the Bois des Plasses in the municipalities of Dommartin and Dardilly.
Tupin, Condrieu, Semons: between the Rhône and the vineyards
A hike with a very varied route.
Discover the Lônes with nature observatories in the protected area of Île du Beurre.
The banks of the Rhône (with the Port des Roches de Condrieu opposite) and a very pleasant arrival in Condrieu (restored residences).
Visit the old town of Condrieu, climb up to the village of Semons and enjoy the view over the market garden plain of Ampuis.
Descent into the vineyards of the Côtes Rôties to discover the intertwining terraces and low walls.
On the Savigny - Lanay trails
A very pretty walk to discover the rolling countryside around Savigny, alternating between dirt tracks and little-used roads, valley bottoms (Trésoncle) and hilltops (viewpoints).
Stream crossings near Loire-sur-Rhône
Shaded walk along the banks of streams in a Rhône ravine. A surprisingly peaceful natural area given its proximity to urban centres.
The vineyards of Ampuis
A short hike to discover the vineyards of Ampuis, with superb views of the terraced vineyards and the Rhône valley.
Flassieux loop
From the 19th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Barthélémy to the Bois du Recours, this pleasant short walk offers magnificent views of Lyon, its mountains and the snow-capped Alps in fine weather.
Circular hike in the Chamelet woods
A lovely, easy walk through the woods above Chamelet.
Valency via the Col de La Croix du Ban
A short hike to soak up the gentle tranquillity of the Monts du Lyonnais, just 15 km as the crow flies from Place Bellecour (Lyon). This circuit is also very close to the neighbouring towns of Tassin, Craponne, Saint-Genis-les-Ollières and Charbonnières-les-Bains.
You will discover the calm of the forest with its remarkable trees, the tranquillity of small streams and breathtaking views of Lyon. As a bonus, depending on the conditions, you can enjoy views of the Alps and Mont Blanc.
Brou Forest in Ternand
This loop, starting from the old village of Ternand, winds its way through the vineyards of the Beaujolais region and the deep Brou forest.
The circuit begins with a visit to the pretty medieval village of Ternand.
The route follows small roads and easy paths and offers beautiful views of the surrounding Beaujolais mountains, from Létra to Oingt.
The Monts du Lyonnais from Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux
A very pleasant walk in the woods, rewarded with a panoramic view of the Rhône Valley and the Ain Plain.
Castles, vineyards and golden stones
A lovely loop with few hills, taking you through vineyards and forests.
You will discover the golden stone village of Glay and pass by Courbeville Castle.
You will also discover the village of Chessy with its castle and 12th-15th century church.
Salles - Arbuissonnas
This is a pleasant, easy walk through the vineyards, the Caudalies Rouges.
Rontalon - Saint-Andre-la-Côte - la Croix Forest circuit
This beautiful route offers views of the Alps, including Mont Blanc, and the Cantal. There are orientation tables near Saint-André-la-Côte
You can shorten the hike by going directly to the Signal Saint-André without passing through Saint-André-la-Côte.
The Rochefort to Rontalon loop
A beautiful circular walk through the varied and undulating landscapes of this part of the Monts du Lyonnais, taking you through the pretty, shady valley of the Bâtie stream and along the Rontalon botanical trail. The route follows an old railroad track from the early twentieth century, before climbing up through a Mediterranean style forest and past some market gardens. End by visiting the medieval village of Rochefort where you can visit the remains of the keep and the chapel.
Loop around the villages starting from Bois d'Oingt
Starting from the village of Bois-d'Oingt, this loop allows you to visit the villages of Oingt, Theizé and Moiré, passing through
Woods and vineyards in a beautiful landscape.
Ratier walk in Pipora
The charm of the Coteaux du Lyonnais from the Ratier stream to the highest point of Sainte-Consorce: Pipora. A moderate elevation gain allows you to enjoy streams, hillsides, meadows and some beautiful views of Lyon, the Alps and Mont Blanc.

Walk in the forest with three charming streams and beautiful views of the valley. A complete change of scenery for the day.
Three mountains and a cross at the start of Curis-au-Mont-d'Or
This loop, starting from Curis-au-Mont-d'Or, will take you to Mont Thou with its magnificent view of the region, then to Mont Verdun and Mont Py, and finally to Croix Rampeau before descending back to Curis.
During this hike, you will see two old wash houses and, depending on the season, orchids, martagon lilies, wild asparagus and many other flowers
Walk in the forest at the Col de la Luère
A short loop for an afternoon stroll from the Col de la Luère.
A very pleasant route, entirely in the forest, on easy paths and trails.
Mont Verdun and Château de la Barollière
Gentle climb up the Limonest corniche, which offers beautiful views of Fourvière.
Chemin de Narcel in the woods, towards Mont Verdun. Then another beautiful view on the descent towards Limonest. Pass near the Château de la Barollière.
Around the Bois d'Arnaud
A varied hike (wide path, trail, partly in the woods, partly in the middle of fields), fairly short but with some elevation gain.
Loop between Ville-sur-Jarnioux and Jarnioux
From Ville-sur-Jarnioux, take the Voie du Tacot to Jarnioux and return via small paths. This is an easy walk with beautiful views of both villages.
From orchards to forests in Thurins
This circular route above Thurins, the raspberry capital, with its many market gardeners, will take you from orchards to shady forests.
This route combines well-shaded forest paths, orchards and local farms. There are a few steep climbs and descents, but none are particularly difficult.

Hike near a beautiful lake that is very popular in summer (with a beach, water sports, horse riding centre, tree climbing, etc.) and in the Mollières woods.

Drystone shelters in Poleymieux
This loop starting from Poleymieux will take you to discover the drystone shelters, traditional huts built from dry stones in the Monts d'Or.
The route passes through the forests on the northern slopes of the Monts d'Or and beautiful meadows.
You will follow part of the geological discovery trail with its excellent information panels.
The paths are easy for the most part, but the forest trails can be steep and tricky in wet weather.
Grézieu-la-Varenne loop at the Col de la Luère
A lovely ten-kilometre loop starting from Grézieu-la-Varenne. Mainly in the forest, it takes you up the legendary Col de la Luère.
Discovering Mont Brouilly
Discover the vineyards of Brouilly and Côte De Brouilly and enjoy a splendid view of the Ain plain and, on a clear day, catch a glimpse of Mont Blanc. You will also pass close to some of the châteaux that are the pride of our region.
Route between Bagnols and Alix
A lovely, easy route with a section in the woods, stream crossings and a passage near the Villefranche-Tarare aerodrome, which can be quite busy at weekends and therefore generate some noise. A pleasant view of the Beaujolais mountains and the golden stone villages.
Chessy loop at the Glay quarries
This walk will take you from Chessy station to the old quarries of Glay. The route passes through the picturesque hamlet of Glay with its golden stone houses
From the vineyards of Beaujolais to the woods of Alix, around Bagnols
This circuit is a microcosm of everything that makes the Pierres Dorées region of the Beaujolais so rich and charming: some of the most beautiful villages (Bagnols, Moiré), churches and chapels, crosses and castles, wash houses and splendid panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, vineyards and forests.
Heathland and meadows in Montagny
This is an easy walk, best done in the cool of the evening in summer as it is a very sunny area.
Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux - Haute Bruyère
This fairly easy circuit from Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux will take you on a pleasant trail mainly in the forest. If the weather is clear, the view from the Plat Saint-Romain plateau offers a panoramic view of the Alps.
The Green Beaujolais
This hike allows you to discover the upper Beaujolais region. The route is varied, passing through vineyards around the village and woods. It leads to the Rontécolon orientation table, the highest point of the route, and passes through the Col de la Sibérie, where there is a memorial to the martyrs of the Resistance.
The Ratier stream by Le Charmillon
Short hike in the Coteaux du Lyonnais to discover hamlets, streams and panoramic views of Saint-Consorce, just a stone's throw from Lyon.
Medieval walk in the Beaujolais region
