Go to Sainte-Consorce (a commune in western Lyon). Follow signs for Pollionnay for 1.6 km. At the crossroads (Larny/Pollionnay), turn left, still following signs for Pollionnay, and 150 m further on, on your left, after the bus stop, you will find a car park where you can easily park.
Then cross the road and take the Passage du Portail opposite, continuing uphill for 250 metres until you reach the top of the hamlet (water tank). There is a breathtaking view of the village of Sainte-Consorce, the western suburbs of Lyon, the Monts d'Or, the Alps and Lyon (Fourvière, Part-Dieu, etc.).
(S) Take the dirt track on your right that climbs between a house (no. 152) and some bushes and quickly enters the forest. Follow it for about 400 metres.
(1) At the fork in the road, take the left-hand path.
250 m further up, you will come to a path that branches off to your right and two others that continue straight ahead: follow either one, as both lead to the same place (red markings). Continue along this main path and ignore the small paths that branch off to the sides.
about 500 metres before you reach the pass, you will find a small path on your left. Follow it for about 100 metres and you will see some climbing rocks (2) (please note: they are not visible from the path as they are below the path in the forest and there are no signs).
(3) When you reach the Col de la Croix du Ban (604 m), you will come to a small road and various signs.
Turn right (north/east) onto theGRP® Tour des Monts du Lyonnais, marked in yellow and red (there is also a sign for "Chemin des limites"). Follow it to Jeu de Quilles; it is well marked. Before you reach Jeu de Quilles, you will see some hundred-year-old beech trees on the right-hand side of the path.
At Jeu de Quilles (signpost), leave theGRP® and follow the signs for Sainte-Consorce on your right, then go down this path.
(4) Please note: 500 metres further down, you will come to several paths. Do not cross the small stream (you will not see it in the middle of summer as there is no water), but take the last path on your left, marked in yellow, towards the Chapelle de Larny.
(5) 300 metres further on, a sign invites you to turn right onto a steep road towards Valency-Sainte-Consorce.
Go down this path through a clearing and then, further down, the road begins to curve. Stay on the main road, which descends steeply for a few metres before crossing a small stream, which is usually dry in summer (the Larny). A few metres further on, admire some remarkable beech trees on your left.
Very soon you will come to a fork where you will rejoin the path you took on the way there (1).
Then, we return to our starting point at the edge of the forest (E).
