Rillieux-la-Pape walks

Walk starting from the church in Sathonay-Village. Slight incline, easy walk for families. You will be able to see animals at two points along the walk: horses, donkeys, chickens, geese and ostriches.

This urban yet bucolic walk allows you to discover the wild banks of the Rhône, the new Passerelle de la Paix footbridge, the Croix-Rousse tunnel in a gentle way, the newly developed banks of the Saône and the market garden plateau that supplies the city. The starting point is indicative. The walk can begin and end at virtually any point along the route.

This route crosses the natural and agricultural site of the Vallon des Échets and the wetland area of the Ruisseau des Vosges. Once you arrive at the Madone site, at an altitude of 266 metres, you can enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Monts d'Or, the Saône valley, the cliffs of Couzon-au-Mont-d'Or, the Monts du Beaujolais and the Fourvière hill.

Hike to discover the balmes (caves) of the Saône, cross the valleys and hills of the rich properties of the Mont-d'Or communes and return via Ile Barbe before climbing back up to the Jean Moulin Museum.

This is an easy, shaded walk where you can see many orchids in April and a few restored drystone shelters. Mont Thou offers beautiful views of the Saône valley and the Ain plain, and even further depending on the weather. Drystone shelters are dry stone structures found in the Monts d'Or.

This circular starting from Couzon-au-Mont-d'Or will take you to the remains of the Monts d'Or Aqueduct, a charming little wash house and a few other ruins. The first and last thirds of the route follow marked trails, while the central part follows small unmarked paths.

This loop follows the Grand Tour and Tour intérieur des Monts d'Or trails. We start at the Saint-Romain cemetery and head towards Mont Cindre via the Sentier des Rapaces trail. Towards Limonest, we walk alongside Château de la Barollière before climbing up to Mont Verdun. It's worth making a detour to visit the Glande lime kiln. This route offers beautiful panoramic views around Mont Cindre and Mont Verdun, towards Poleymieux and the heights of Saint-Romain.

A Short yet tough hike through the Monts d'Or. Very nice in good weather and on dry ground.

This double loop of around fifteen kilometres with a significant elevation gain will take you through some beautiful panoramas and places in the Monts d'Or. Starting from the pretty village of Saint-Romain, it will take you to the summit of Mont Thou with its magnificent panorama, then to the village of Poleymieux with its church and some beautiful drystone shelters. You will cross the grounds of Château de Curis and then walk through the woods to return to your starting point, passing by the enigmatic Demeure du Chaos.

This circular loop follows part of the Man and Landscape Trail, with a slight elevation gain and no major difficulties.

An easy loop starting from Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or to reach the heights of the Monts d'Or towards Mont Thou. The return route passes via Mont Cindre. There are some lovely views and several drystone shelters to discover along the way.

Starting from the heights of Cuire, this route first takes us past a viewpoint with sweeping panoramic views, then along the pleasant Balcon de Saint-Clair. After a steep descent, we cross the Rhône and stroll past modern sculptures. Crossing the Parc de la Tête d'Or is an opportunity to admire a renowned rose garden and visit the Île du Souvenir (when accessible). Finally, we climb steep stairs to return to the starting point.

An easy hike to discover the drystone shelters of Mont-d'Or. The cabornes are huts built of dry stone, which were used as shelters and for storing tools by farmers. They were also sometimes used as dwellings.

Discover this leisure area located a stone's throw from Lyon, accessible by tram, and also immerse yourself in the nature of the Miribel Park marshes to discover its fauna and flora.

Most of the walk is in the forest. The paths are pleasant, with quite a few small stones on the ground. In rainy weather or after heavy rain, the path may be muddy or even impassable in places (not sure, to be checked). The end of the walk is not in the shade, so it can get hot in the sun. Easy circular partly along the Saône, crossing the small marina of Genay and running alongside a small stream.

A short walk that takes you to the most beautiful viewpoint of the Mont d'Or massif and allows you to discover some 'drystone shelters', stone shepherds' huts. Great for families!

This loop, starting from Curis-au-Mont-d'Or, will take you to Mont Thou with its magnificent view of the region, then to Mont Verdun and Mont Py, and finally to Croix Rampeau before descending back to Curis. During this hike, you will see two old wash houses and, depending on the season, orchids, martagon lilies, wild asparagus and many other flowers

The aim of the route is to stroll through a few streets in the city of Lyon, between the north of the Presqu'île (Place des Terreaux) and the plateau of the Colline de la Croix-Rousse, while enjoying beautiful views (on the Rhône and Saône sides) at times.

This hike in the Monts d'Or mountains, starting from Curis-au-Mont-d'Or, will allow you to enjoy the panoramic view of Mont Thou and Mont Verdun and discover the drystone shelters that are part of the region's heritage. It follows the inner route of the Monts d'Or with a variant to shorten the circuit.

This short loop of around ten kilometres from Poleymieux church will take you on a journey through time. Go back 200 million years with the Monts d'Or geological trail. Then travel to the 19th century with the surprising drystone shelters, the Carrière battery, the magnificent lime kiln at Polyemieux and finally the Ampère Museum. And finally, return to the 21st century with the Air Base 942 site and its secret installations.

Parking: 4 spaces for cars a few metres from the start of the path.It's rare to find a quiet walk that barely touches tarmac in the Monts d'Or. This one does just that. You get to spend two hours in the forest near Lyon without any physical challenge. Ideal for families.

This loop starting from Poleymieux will take you to discover the drystone shelters, traditional huts built from dry stones in the Monts d'Or. The route passes through the forests on the northern slopes of the Monts d'Or and beautiful meadows. You will follow part of the geological discovery trail with its excellent information panels. The paths are easy for the most part, but the forest trails can be steep and tricky in wet weather.

An extended tour of a pretty village in a beautiful location in the Monts d'Or.

An easy family walk that starts at Mionnay Station, crosses the Bois des Pommes and leads to Étang Dimanche.

A rustic route on rocky paths starting from the village of Poleymieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, which joins theGR® du Mont Thou, offering a nearly 360° view of the entire region: in particular, views of the Alps and Mont Blanc, the Monts du Lyonnais and the Beaujolais. Pass by an old wash house and picturesque rocks before finishing the climb up the ridge of Mont Thou to the summit.

This route allows you to walk along the banks of the Saône on the way there and the Rhône on the way back. Along the way, we will enjoy the sights of the peninsula (the writers' wall, the Lyonnais wall, Place des Terreaux, the town hall, the opera house). Halfway through, we will walk around the Parc de la Tête d'Or.

An easy walk through Lyon via the Saint-Jean district, up to Notre-Dame-de-Fourvière, the Saint-Georges district and, finally, near the traboules, these narrow passages between the houses of the Saint-Jean district (see the websites for guided tours). A visit to the Roman amphitheatres is included, as well as a stop at the Jardin des Curiosités, a little green gem with one of the most beautiful views of Lyon. Departure from Place Bellecour.

Starting from the Basilica of Fourvière (or Place Bellecour), the route allows you to enjoy the most beautiful views of the city. You will pass by many of Lyon's must-see churches, monuments and theatres. You will climb up to Croix-Rousse through almost all of the traboules (covered passageways) on the hill. A truly peaceful route with virtually no cars.

This walk, after giving you a beautiful view of the Château de Curis, will take you close to three mountains: Mont Narcel, Mont Verdun and Mont Py before returning to Saint-Germain. You will discover several wash houses and small chapels along the way.

This hike will take you to the Croix Rampeau (viewpoint over the Alps and the Saône plain), the Tour Risler (Poleymieux-au-Mont-d'Or), the ruins of a hermitage, the remains of a tannery and several old wash houses. Depending on the season, you will see daffodils, orchids, wild asparagus (edible), martagon lilies or fields of colchicum.

This short, easy loop starting from Saint-Germain-au-Mont-d'Or will take you to the ruins of a retting pit and a hermitage. In September, you can see colchicum flowers and, if you feel like it, extend the circuit to the Croix Rampaux: a viewpoint over the Saône plain and the Alps.

For several years now, Lyon's Confluence district, in the wake of the construction of the museum, has been undergoing a major transformation. Here, it is invited to discover its new face, where modernity meets history, in the exceptional setting of the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers.

Take a journey through time, from Romanesque architecture to Neo-Byzantine style, via Gothic, of course, and discover the churches of Lyon's 2nd and 5th arrondissements. The itinerary also takes in many other treasures of Lyon's heritage.

Stroll through the Tony Garnier open-air museum. The beautiful buildings of the Cité des États-Unis serve as a backdrop for the architect's plans for his ideal city of Lyon. Other street arts, colorful and symbolist, extrapolate this concept to other countries.

Route to be followed using GPS, semi-urban route, not practical with explanations. Starting from the Fort de Lyon Saint-Just, 500 metres from the Saint Just funicular, this is a half-nature, half-city walk. It passes through several parks and the pretty little Razes valley, followed by a nature trail along the Thiện Minh Pagoda. There is a beautiful view of Lyon and the Alps from the Esplanade Lichfield in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon.

A lovely walk through the parks of south-east Lyon, starting from the Mermoz/Pinel metro station.

Sainte-Foy is a commune with rugged terrain. To see this for yourself, simply walk up and down the many staircases. So I've put together a short route with six staircases to climb. What could be better? To be done at a leisurely pace or as a trail run.
