Loire-sur-Rhône walks

Shaded walk along the banks of streams in a Rhône ravine. A surprisingly peaceful natural area given its proximity to urban centres.

Walk in the forest with three charming streams and beautiful views of the valley. A complete change of scenery for the day.

Stroll through the narrow streets of Seyssuel, then on the way back, pass by the old castle and continue through the vineyards. Half of this route is paved, but you will have some beautiful views of the Monts du Lyonnais, which makes this part seem shorter.

A walk between Givors and Echalas, mostly through woods and along wild valleys. Although close to the town, this walk remains very natural before reaching the plateau.

Did you know that there are traces of mining activity in Communay (south of Lyon)? To discover them, follow this easy path. This hike can be done in two stages: 1) around the Sauveur, Baytan, Guérin and Dufélix pits; 2°) around the Espérance shaft headframe (rebuilt by associations linked to the mine) and a small slag heap, now wooded.

Walk in the woods recommended in hot, dry weather. A few viewpoints, particularly of the Alps on a clear day. The paths are well maintained but the woods are much less so; they have something of an end-of-the-world feel to them.

A beautiful, quick walk in the heart of the Bois de Saint-Jean in Communay. There are quite a few steep sections in two or three places. Despite the proximity of the A46 motorway, you will feel far away from civilisation during this walk.

Discover Ternay, a Cluniac site located 15 km south of Lyon. You will discover the 23-hectare Grand Clos Park, the Cluniac priory and the Château de La Porte (16th century), only the exterior of which can be visited.

This is a hike through the woods in the Pilat massif, best done in dry weather and avoided in strong winds as most of the route is in the woods with few paved roads.

A short walk through the historic centre of Vienne. It will allow you to discover the city's main sites. The passage through the Pipet belvedere involves a good climb, but you will be rewarded with a splendid view of the city, the Rhône valley and, as a bonus, the foothills of the Monts du Lyonnais and Pilat.

The walk is often through woodland between Saint-Romain-en-Gier and Échalas, north of Pilat (Gier valley).

This is a pleasant walk around Chassagny and Montagny, passing the Château de Chassagny and the Château de La Vaure, as well as a pretty footbridge over the Mornantet.

A hike that almost exclusively uses small roads without traffic, providing a route where the paths are not an option. We start in Vienne and experience its panoramic views of Notre-Dame de Pipet and the Vienne hills with beautiful views of the Rhône Valley and the Pilat massif at the bottom. The return journey takes you through the homes on the Vienne heights while maintaining good views of the Viennoise hills.

A short hike to discover the vineyards of Ampuis, with superb views of the terraced vineyards and the Rhône valley.

The famous Côte-Rôtie vineyards, laid out in terraces supported by low stone walls, will enchant you at the start and end of this hike. The rest of the hike takes place in a rural and wooded setting, along good paths and a few sections of quiet roads. Sumptuous views of the Rhône Valley, the Pilat Massif and the entire Alpine range (weather permitting). On the descent back, the Château d'Ampuis will stand before you.

This is an easy walk, best done in the cool of the evening in summer as it is a very sunny area.

A beautiful country walk, mostly in the open. You will discover the local vineyards, walk alongside orchards and enjoy panoramic views of the Rhône valley and the countryside. You will also see horses and pass through part of the wine-growing village of Millery. The route is very well marked (yellow stripes).

This circular route connects the Gère valley to the Malissol neighbourhood. It follows a path along the banks of the Gère, part of which is in the Malissol forest, near the fitness trail, and some more rocky sections in the heart of the Malissol neighbourhood. A family walk with a slight incline, best done with flat, closed-toe shoes (forest trails).

A hike with a very varied route. Discover the Lônes with nature observatories in the protected area of Île du Beurre. The banks of the Rhône (with the Port des Roches de Condrieu opposite) and a very pleasant arrival in Condrieu (restored residences). Visit the old town of Condrieu, climb up to the village of Semons and enjoy the view over the market garden plain of Ampuis. Descent into the vineyards of the Côtes Rôties to discover the intertwining terraces and low walls.

This is an unpretentious walk. It alternates between different landscapes (countryside, forest) and surfaces (gravel paths, small asphalt roads). If the weather is clear, you will have many views of the surrounding peaks. There are two small hills (not too steep) to keep you in shape.

A walk in the countryside for those who don't like hills. Wide views of the ridges with meadows, moors and horses on the Mornantais plateau.

A walk that allows you to appreciate the contrast between the cool, enclosed areas leading to the Gerbole stream and the wide, open views of the Pilat massif and the vineyards of the northern Côtes du Rhône.A change of scenery, a little physically demanding, just a few kilometres from Vienne...

A long, bucolic walk on the plateau of Saint-Andéol-le-Château and Saint-Jean-de-Toulas, interspersed with valleys and streams. Long but easy with little elevation gain.

This walk will take you through the agricultural plateau and then along the banks of the old Rhône. The restored Jaricot and Ciselande floodplains are home to beavers.

Walk around Jardin, passing by the old Roman aqueduct, the old church, the Montléant Tower and the old school. At the Jardin library, a small book entitled JARDIN AU CŒUR DU TEMPS (Jardin Through Time) allows you to discover and learn more about all the monuments: the aqueducts, the Montléans Tower, the two churches, the old school, and the old Bérardier wash house.

Walk in the hills above Longes with magnificent panoramic views of the Alps, the Pilat massif and the Monts du Lyonnais. Car park with a beautiful table and two magnificent wooden deckchairs from which to admire the Rhône valley and the Alps.

Starting from the village of Reventin-Vaugris, through the countryside and woods, the paths on this hike will take you through the valley where a small stream, the Gerbole, flows. From small bridge to small bridge, you will walk through wild areas above this stream.

A very rural hike through woods and hills, with beautiful views of the Alps and Pilat Park. :1: Please note: hike currently being modified. The passage on the (private) path from (1) seems to be causing problems. In the meantime: at the fork, 400 m before this waypoint (1), turn right (Chemin des Frères) then left onto the D167 and further on you will find the waypoint (2).

Beautiful day hike in the Pilat Massif (Loire) and around the Couzon Dam. Starting from Longes, there are many hikes of varying lengths from an altitude of 450m to 1400m (at Cret de la Perdrix) or 1235m (at Cret de l'Oeillon).

A day's hike along pleasant wooded paths around Saint-Laurent d'Agny with a break in front of the superb chapel dedicated to Saint Vincent, the patron saint of winegrowers.

With easy and quick access from the A7 motorway coming from Lyon, La Chapelle-Villars is an ideal starting point for exploring the Pilat Massif. This route takes you to Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez and offers a beautiful view of the Chartreuse from the heights of Sainte-Croix.

Hike in the heart of Pilat, with magnificent panoramic views alternating between the Rhône valley to start with, then the Gier valley and finally the Lyon region in the distance.
