Reach Savigny from L'Arbresle or Sain-Bel. Departure from Savigny Church (large car park below the church and small car park next to the church).
(S/E) From the church, head south down Rue Pierre Bost, which joins the Trésoncle river. Do not cross the river, but follow the small path on the right, then the road on the left bank for about 800 metres (yellow and redGRP® markings).
(1) Cross the river via the second small narrow bridge (with a water pipe) then climb towards Ronzière, then pass the hamlet.
(2) When you reach the ridge, turn right towards Crêt d'Arjoux. There is a beautiful view of the Monts du Lyonnais.
(3) Cross the D33 and continue opposite, still following theGRP® (Tour des Monts du Lyonnais) until you reach a small road. Follow it to the left for a few metres to reach altitude 709. This is the highest point of the route. There is a nice shaded picnic area a little further along the road.
(4) Between elevation 709 and the picnic area, take the path on the right towards Ancy.
(5) At elevation 602, leave theGRP® trail and take a path on the right, which then turns north to join the Route du Mollon, which you follow to the left. Pass this hamlet and continue straight ahead on the road. At the farm building, where the road bends to the right, leave it and take the path on the left, arriving just after at an intersection at the Croix de Mury, elevation 505.
(6) Continue along the path on the right. Pass the hamlet of Chazallet and continue straight ahead on the road. Ignore a road on the right and behind you further on, then arrive at the first houses of Ancy. Continue straight ahead on the road until you find yourself in front of the town hall and the small church.
(7) Turn right in front of the church and turn left (due east) towards the Trésoncle valley. At the next intersection, continue right on a small road. At the end of this road, turn onto the path on the left that follows the Trésoncle at a distance, on the left bank, through the orchards for 1.5 km. Continue straight ahead on this path, ignoring a path on the left and then a path on the right, until you reach a road.
(8) Follow it to the right. Pass two houses on the right. Further on, just before another house, leave this road, which turns right, and continue on the path opposite, which runs close to the Trésoncle. You will arrive at the D7.
(9) Cross and take the path opposite, slightly to the left, which climbs up the southern flank of Mont Popey. Ignore a path on the left and you will come to a wide path. Follow it to the right.
(10) At the next intersection, turn right onto the road that descends and cross the D33 (elevation 472). Continue on the road opposite. Magnificent view of the Turdine, Azergues and Saône valleys in the distance. Follow the ridge path towards Bois Carnoux and Bois du Récy, ignoring all the turnings on the right (there are numerous picnic tables).
(11) At the intersection with a hut on the right and an orchard opposite, turn right. Ignore a path on the left shortly after, then continue left at the fork. Continue straight ahead on this path, ignoring the turnings on the right, until you reach the tarmac road at the first houses in Savigny.
(12) Continue straight ahead on the road. Ignore a road on the left and continue straight ahead at the next crossroads (road-path). At the T-junction, turn right towards the village. Then take the second street on the left to reach the church (S/E).
