Loing (le) walks

A loop offering beautiful views of the Seine and its valley! After an initial section in the forest, the trail follows a pleasant path along the riverbank, offering superb panoramic views. The hike ends on the banks of the Seine, with a picturesque passage on the small island of Basses Godernes.

Rising between Forterre and Puisaye, and after a course of more than 150 kilometres, the Loing flows into the Seine to the south-east of the Forest of Fontainebleau. This rather short route runs alongside these two rivers and the Canal du Loing for much of its length. A section through the forest adds variety to the landscape. The beautiful old Saint-Mammès Church and a few reproductions of paintings by Alfred Sisley add an undeniable touch of heritage to this walk.

Take a loop around the Étang de la Clarette, with a short historical walk along the Loing and through the wonderful village of Gretz-sur-Loing. Very pleasant, with unforgettable views along the Loing.

Marked hike N°1. This trail, dedicated to Colette, was opened in 1993 by the pupils of the Colette college of Saint-Sauveur en Puisaye. Along this trail, everything recalls the works of this author, born in Saint-Sauveur en Puisaye in 1873. The author has described her birthplace so well - that even though she has given other names to the villages and characters, you can sense her literature at every corner.

Marked trail No. 7.A hike focusing on springs and wash houses. All these springs feed the Paris Basin via the water table and the Seine via the Loing. Superbly well-marked route (No. 7) with no damage to the natural environment (no more paint on trees, monuments or houses). This route can be done on horseback or by mountain bike (in the opposite direction if possible).

After a short climb up Mont Marion, you will skirt around the Plaine de Sorques, which is a sensitive natural area and a bird sanctuary.

Ranked among the most beautiful sites in France, explore Montargis through its streets on the water with 131 bridges and footbridges. A gastronomic and lakeside town nicknamed the Venice of Gâtinais.

Circular starting from the lakeside town of Montargis, known as the Venice of Gatinais. The junctions of the Briare, Orléans and Loing canals made it a veritable river crossroads between the Loire and Seine basins until the Orléans canal was decommissioned in 1954. Follow the waterways through the Loing valley, passing rivers, canals and lakes.

An easy, almost entirely flat hike from Episy to Ecuelles via theGR® de Pays du Lunain, passing behind the Episy aerodrome. The return journey is along the towpath beside the Canal du Loing. This route is easily manageable for a brave child.

Visit the medieval town of Moret-sur-Loing coming from Saint-Mammès along the banks of the Loing. Return along the banks of the Seine. Check the opening hours of the Pont Loup museum. Please note: on Sunday mornings, there is a market in the car park. The route has been significantly modified to take into account various passages that have become unusable by pedestrians and to avoid walking along the railway line on the way back, without walking too much on tarmac.

A circular route passing by the lakes of Dordives, taking the "Chemin de César" (Caesar's path), then the Gâtinais countryside to end up in Château-Landon, where you can explore its medieval past. The return journey follows the Canal du Loing with the Néronville canal bridge.

Marked route No. 113.The historic centre of Saint-Fargeau and a nature walk are the main attractions of this outing.From the red-brick castle to the murals of the Sainte-Anne Chapel, via the Loing river, this is a bucolic walk.

A circular route around the Étang de la Genevraye and a visit to the Marais d'Episy, which presents no difficulty.

A short stroll around this charming lake, home to swans, green-necked ducks and many other migratory birds when the time comes. Photographers, get your cameras ready...

Marked trail No. 3.From the church with its magnificent murals, pass the Gué Ricart, discover the Moutiers pond via the Marseillaise, then the undergrowth before reaching Saint-Sauveur, Pays de Colette and her birthplace.

A hike from station to station that starts along the Canal du Loing and the river that gave it its name. A circular hike around the Étang de la Clarette allows you to observe numerous birds before admiring the rich heritage of the commune of Grez-sur-Loing. The hike ends mainly through fields.

A very varied hike from station to station. The Chemin des Herces, high up, offers beautiful views of the Seine and the town of Saint-Mammès, where you will find a beautiful Romanesque church. After walking along the Seine, you stroll between the old vine walls of Thomery. You return to the banks of the Seine and the hike ends with a detour into the Fontainebleau National Forest.

A hike from station to station starting from Montigny-sur-Loing. A varied route through the forest with a few rocks and the banks of the Loing. The Loing valley is an authentic green paradise that can be explored over a medium distance via footpaths, rural tracks and towpaths. This route takes you along the river and the canal of the same name, which flow side by side until they meet the Seine.

Marked trail No. 44.Through woods and farmland, passing by ponds, discover the environments where the earth is shaped into artistic creations and pottery.

An all-season trail in this region of Puisaye amid hedges (bouchures), heritage, and legends.

A route focused on painting with Le Michel-Ange des Arbres. Around twenty representations of Henri Harpignies' paintings line this walk among the trees, sunken paths and viewpoints of Puisaye.Saint-Privé is listed as one of the "Cités de caractères de Bourgogne - Franche-Comté" (villages of character in Burgundy-Franche-Comté).

A lovely route along the banks of the Loing, exploring the ponds surrounding Souppes-sur-Loing. Visit Nemours with its Chaintreauville Fountain, bridges covered in flowers in spring, beautiful church with its bell on the ground and the bridge over the Loing blessed by Pius VII. Arrange for transport for the return journey.

This is the twenty-fifth stage of the Grand Tour of Île-de-France via the GR®11, starting from Montereau station, not far from the confluence of the Seine and the Yonne, and ending at Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons station, not far from the confluence of the Seine and the Loing. The stage, entirely on the GR®11, follows a route on the left bank of the Seine, joining the Orvanne valley a little further south, and returns to Moret-sur-Loing and its beautiful historic centre, following the Canal du Loing on its towpath.
