Description of the walk

Starting point and access: Nemours-Saint-Pierre station.
- Transilien - Line R, on the section between Paris-Lyon and Montargis.
Take the Nemours exit on platform 1, in the direction from Paris to Montargis (if arriving in the opposite direction, on platform 2, take the underground passage).

Red and white markings

(S) When you leave the station, turn right towards a crossroads. At the traffic lights, cross the D16 first, then turn left to cross the D607. Turn right, cross Rue du Général Leclerc, then take the bridge over the Canal du Loing.

Yellow markings

(1) At the end of the bridge, leave the road and go down to the left to reach the canal bank. Follow the canal on your left along a gravel path lined with majestic plane trees. Walk along the Buttes lock, cross a small road and take the footbridge opposite to cross the Loing.

Red and White + Yellow Markings

(2) At the end of the footbridge, turn left and follow theGR®13Btowards Melun. Take the Fromonville towpath (tarmac) and walk along the Loing on your left. Note the tall silos on the opposite bank. After a barrier, the tarmac gives way to a gravel path. Pass under a road bridge and, further on, under the A6 motorway bridge. Pass another barrier, ignore a small lane on the right and continue for another hundred metres on the gravel.

Red and white + yellow + purple markings

(3) At the Fromonville lock, take the footbridge to cross the Canal du Loing. At the bottom on the other side, turn right 180°. Follow a grassy path on a narrow strip of land between the canal (on your right) and the river (on your left beyond a curtain of trees).

(4) After about 650m, at an isolated tree, turn left and enter the undergrowth. At the T-junction that immediately follows (not shown on the map), turn right. Walk along the left-hand side of the fenced gardens on the banks of the Loing. At a fork (not shown on the map; elevation 58), take the path on the right, still in the undergrowth. Ignore afirst path on the left, then asecond, and immediately cross a stream.

(5) At the fork that appears immediately, take the left-hand path. Continue straight ahead, north-north-east, ignoring a path on the left. Leave the woods and walk along a football stadium on your left.

Purple markings

(6) At the junction with a perpendicular tarmac road, turn right (ignore theGR® trail to the left for now). At the end, cross the D40d road (take care! There is no protected crossing) and follow it to the right for about 100 metres until you reach the Étang de la Clarette car park.

Yellow markings

(7) Leave the road, cross the car park and start walking around the lake in an anti-clockwise direction. Leave the Tacots du Lac train station on your right. At the northern tip of the lake, turn sharply left. After about 300 metres, at an intersection (elevation 56), turn left to stay on the edge of the lake. This will take you back to the car park.

Purple markings

(7) Follow the D40d on the right and, after about 100 metres, cross it again (caution! no protected crossing). Follow the D40f to the football stadium.

Red and white + yellow markings

(6) Find theGR® and follow it straight ahead. Cross the Loing on an old stone bridge and note the ruins of the Tour de Ganne on the left. At the end of the bridge, turn left onto a path (chicane). Pass at the foot of the ruined tower (information panels) then turn right onto the path. At the end, turn left towards the church. At the foot of the church's bell tower, turn right at an acute angle and you will soon reach Place Jolivet.

Red and white markings (generally sparse, absent between fields due to lack of support)

(8) Then follow theGR®13Bto the right (note that two branches ofthe GR®13separate here). At the crossroads, continue straight ahead into Rue Jolivet. At the end, turn left. At the next crossroads (pharmacy opposite), turn right. Go straight ahead, cross Place de la République, pass the post office and follow Rue Victor Hugo. A few metres after the stop sign, turn right into Rue des Mariniers.

(9) At the end, take thesecond left, Rue Romain Renoult, and pass the war memorial on your left. At the stop sign, go straight ahead. Ignore the access to Moulin de la Fosse on your right. When the street becomes a one-way street, leave it, take a farm track on the left and pass a small shed on your right.

(10) Before reaching a large shed, turn right onto a grassy path. Head north-northeast between the fields on this poorly maintained path. At the end, turn left onto a better maintained path.

(11) At the next crossroads, turn right (north-east). As you approach a sewage treatment plant, the path gives way to tarmac. Immediately cross a small road and continue on the track opposite. As you approach a wood, ignore thefirst path on the right.

(12) After about 100 metres, take thesecond path on the right (be careful to spot this turn-off). Climb gently and follow the woods on your right.

(13) Shortly before the top of the hill, take a grassy path on the left (be careful here too). At the end, turn right and, at the intersection that immediately follows, turn left.

(14) At the next crossroads, go straight ahead (the purple line on the map representing theGR®13Bis not up to date here). Walk east-north-east between the fields. At thefirst house, turn right. At the intersection that immediately follows, turn left. Further on, cross Rue des Bas Cormiers on the right-hand side. At the next intersection, turn left.

(15) At the crossroads, first turn left then right to take the bridge over the railway tracks.

No signposts

At the crossroads after the bridge, take thefirst right, Avenue de la Gare, which is not signposted here (leave theGR® to follow Rue Raymond Frot, which runs parallel to it). You will soon see Montigny-sur-Loing station on your right (E).

To return home:
- Transilien - Line R, towards Melun and Paris (direct access). To return to Montargis, take the underpass or, even easier, at the crossroads (15), turn right and you will soon find the station on your left.

A lovely, very easy walk as it’s flat, taking you through Grez and past its stone bridge painted by Sisley
The church was closed, but the exterior is also very beautiful

A very pleasant trail that is easily accessible from Paris.
Some parts through the fields can be muddy in wet weather.
The little historical detour to Grez-sur-Loing was very welcome!

This route is particularly interesting due to its variety, including a charming path along the Loing river, a forest crossing to reach the beautiful medieval village of Gretz-sur-Loing, a lovely spot for picnics and swimming at the Gretz-sur-Loing bridge, and an equally charming passage through fields to reach the Montigny-sur-Loing station

A fairly pleasant hike, but not exceptional, especially in the last part. It's true that we did it in the rain. In the sections along the fields, the GPX track is essential. At point 3, we missed the footbridge and had to turn back.

We completed the route in reverse without any difficulty using the GPS track. We did not complete the circular route around the Clarette pond, but we added a visit to the remarkable Gréau rocks in the forest at the end of the route in Nemours. At point 1 in Nemours, simply cross the road and continue a little further until you reach Rue du Canal, which you will take on your right. At the roundabout, take Avenue d'Ormesson on the right, then after crossing the railway line, turn right again onto Avenue Léopold Pelletier. You will find the park entrance on your left 100 metres further on. It is easy to get lost in this forest without a GPS tracker! Find your way out of the small park opposite the town hall, cross the park and you will find yourself near the station. In terms of distance covered, it is almost identical. In Grez sur Loing, we were able to buy sandwiches at an organic bakery and have a coffee at the bar opposite. During the week, be careful when parking at Nemours station, as the large car park is very full. In sunny weather, the route along the canal is very pleasant, even if the end of the route is very linear and seems monotonous, and the noise of traffic near the bridge disturbs the peace and quiet of the area.

Very few white and red GR-type trail markers, but instead purple or mauve markings that neither I nor my girlfriend, who is registered with the RIF and does a lot of hiking, are familiar with.
So there is a lack of markings.
And there is a problem with the directions when arriving at GREZ at the Ganne tower. It says to walk past the ruined tower, then turn right onto the path at the end, turn left towards the church at the foot of the bell tower, turn right at an acute angle and reach Place Jolivet.
Then follow the GR 13 B to the right, etc., etc., and that's where it goes wrong.
In short, we must have missed one or more markers, which are few and far between, as I said
Otherwise, it's a beautiful, varied hike. I really like the path along the canal.
Another thing: the tour of the De la Clarette pond is not essential, but we did it.
I bought a licence from IPhiGéNie. I wonder if it's not redundant with Visorando. I'd like someone to explain all this to me one day.

A beautiful, peaceful hike in fine weather.
All things considered, we would do it again in the opposite direction because, despite the moderate temperature, we got hot in the afternoon in the fields and would prefer to finish with the section along the water's edge. This is not a criticism, just a personal opinion.
