Description of the walk

Start from the car park located below the Colette Museum, accessed via Rue des Renards.

Signposting: Colette Trail No. 1

(S/E) Turn right onto Rue de la Roche, then left onto Rue Colette. Pass Colette’s birthplace at No. 10.
Then take the first right onto Rue des Gros Bonnets. Continue straight on along Rue du Bourg Gelé, leaving Rue Saint-Claude on your right.

(1) At the junction with Rue du Haras, turn left onto Rue des Murailles, then right onto Rue de Moutiers.
After passing under the railway line, turn onto the path on the right before the sewage treatment plant. Follow the railway line, then join and take the street on the left at the hamlet of La Marseillaise without crossing the railway line.

(2) Continue left along the path leading down through the woodland.

(3) Cross the Loing via the footbridge and join the road opposite.
Carry on to the right and then right again to Moutiers-en-Puisaye via the C13.

(4) At the Stop sign, turn left onto Rue de l’Église and then left again onto Rue Saint-Georges. At the next Fork in the road, leave the D151 and head straight on towards Les Lorets. Leave the hamlet on your left.

Leave the Sentier Colette trail

(5) At this junction, leave the Sentier Colette route to the left and take the sunken path to the right, then left at the White Cross (broken) to join the D151. Continue left then right towards La Turne, then Bellevue and Beauregard.

Signposting for the Water and Woodland Route No. 24

(6) At the D66 road, turn right, walk for about 250m and take the first path on the left (signpost for the Water and Woods Route No. 24). Continue, cross the footbridge, and arrive at Moulin Cognot (path not marked on the IGN map but clearly present).

(7) Cross the D955 (watch out for traffic) and take the path opposite, leading to Crot Veillat.

(8) At the junction, turn onto the path on the right. At Crot Maçon, go straight on, passing the pond near the Cave à Berneau.

(9) On leaving the woods, continue left along the limestone track to join the tarmac road towards Les Pautrats.
Pass through Bourg sans Paille and then Les Martins.

(10) At the Château de Ratilly, take the path on the right at the back of the château and walk round it through the gardens. After exiting through the main entrance gate, take the path on the left. At the road, head up to the left then down the first road on the right towards Les Jolivots.

(11) At the crossroads with the cross (on the left), take the Chemin de la Déplaisance to the left as far as Treigny.

(12) Head left, crossing the village via Rue du Petit Pont and Rue du Professeur Camille Lian, which continues on from there.

End of the Water and Woodland Route No. 26 – start of the Regard sur la Forterre No. 22 signposting

(13) At the church, head down to the right along Rue des Canards towards Perreuse.

(14) Cross the River Vrille and, at the top of the hill, take the path on the right before the microlight airfield. Continue straight on, passing close to the Marlée wash house, and rejoin the D66 road at Perreuse.

End of the Regard sur la Forterre signposting

(15) Head left towards the village, cross the junction towards Lainsecq. After the cemetery, turn left, take the right-hand fork in the road at the next junction and continue to the farm and the source of the Loing.

(16) Continue along the road to the junction with the D7.

(17) Take the path on the left to the Croix Saint-Nicolas. Continue along the path opposite to Les Gressiens. Take the road on the right for about 200m and then the path on the left along the woods on your right.

(18) After crossing the Loing, head up to the edge of Bois Geai.

(19) Turn right towards the power line, then at the post, turn left until you reach the D1 road. Go straight on, ignoring the path on the right leading to the farm.

(20) At La Bussière, after the castle, turn right. Pass Les Guilloux and continue along the road at the edge of the Bois des Faucheries until you reach the crossroads.

(21) Turn left towards Les Rèbles. On the descent after the hamlet, take the path on the left between the pastures, then enter and climb up into the Bois des Devaux.

(22) At the side path at the top of the woods:
Option 1: turn left, heading west towards Les Dubois; cross the hamlet and follow the small road to the crossroads just before the Étang de l’Orme du Pont.
Option 2: take the small path on the right, join the road and head down towards the Orme du Pont crossroads. This is the option shown on the map. This path is narrow, little-used and maintained only occasionally; we walked it in October 2016 without difficulty.
Continue along the road on the left before the pond until you reach the D955.

(23) Be careful and watch out on this bend; you’re likely to encounter more cars here than you’ve seen during the whole walk.
Take the road on the right for 150m, then take the path on the left opposite the entrance to the Phébés’ property. Pass Les Paillards, then take the next path on the right (which may be a bit damp in places, depending on the season).
Continue right along the Chemin du Petit Moulin until you reach the Route de Saint-Amand.

(24) At the junction with the road, turn left, cross the railway line and immediately turn right onto Rue de l’Église, then Rue des Vignes to reach Rue de la Roche. Turn left then right to reach the car park (S/E).

Well, there you have it: this footbridge has been completely refurbished and is once again open to the public, thanks to the hard work of volunteers from the charity À chacun son chemin in Puisaye-Forterre.

Hello Toundra,
Well spotted regarding the two minor errors in the description; they have been corrected. As for this footbridge, it has been in a sorry state since the successive storms. A project for its complete renovation is currently underway with the local council, which owns the site. We hope it will be ready by 2023.
Enjoy your walks.

Please note that there is an error in the description.
At No. 6, it is not route 26 but route 24 (Between Puisaye and Forterre: water and woods)
Also, still at No. 6, before reaching Moulin Cognot, the footbridge is completely destroyed and the path is very muddy!
Otherwise, a very lovely walk despite everything...

A very good walk.
Bring gaiters for walking through tall grass if setting off early in the morning or in wet weather.
Take care after the sign for waypoint 17. The climb up to the Bois des Devaux is blocked by two small ropes. It’s easy to get past them, but the rest of the path is rather poorly maintained.
For waypoint 18, I took the route shown by the existing track: the path is very muddy, and it’s difficult to get through without wellies or properly waterproof shoes. The path is indeed poorly maintained.
=> I therefore recommend continuing straight on after the hamlet of "Les Rèbles" to "l'Orme du Pont" to avoid these two difficulties.
