The banks of the Seine via Saint-Mammès, from Montereau-Fault-Yonne

The start is at the small car park on the Quai de Seine, at the confluence of the Seine and the Yonne, immediately to the left of the bridge.

(S/E) Continue along the Quai de Seine, which becomes the Route de la Grande Paroisse, until you reach the first road on the left.

(1) Take this road, then continue along the towpath until you reach a small road.

(2) Turn left, head back towards the river, and continue along the towpath until you reach a road.

(3) Follow this road, which runs alongside the Seine, until you reach the bridge spanning the river.

(4) Cross the bridge and, once you’ve crossed, turn left and walk along the opposite bank to the roundabout, near the water sports centre.

(5) Turn right onto Rue du Port de la Celle, heading towards the stadium. Opposite No. 132, first turn right then left and continue along Rue du Port de la Celle to the end.

(6) Turn left, go under the magnificent railway bridge, and carry on to the bridge over the lock.

(7) As you come off the bridge, turn left onto the cycle path that runs alongside the Canal du Loing on your left, and continue to the next bridge, crossing it.

(8) Cross the bridge and continue on the D302 towards Fontainebleau, following this road until you reach the second roundabout.

(9) Take the second exit and join the D606, heading towards Varennes-sur-Seine. Pass the base of the Queen’s Obelisk and, after the long descent, you will reach a junction.

(10) Dismount and cross the D606 with care. Carry on towards the quarry and follow the^D28A. Enter Varennes-sur-Seine and continue straight on to the Town Hall.

(11) At the multi-way junction just after this, turn left onto Rue de la Gare, follow the railway line and arrive at a roundabout. Take the second exit, towards Montereau-Centre, go under the bridge and continue immediately to the right onto Rue Léo Lagrange, until you reach the roundabout.

(12) Take the third exit, the D605, towards Montereau-Ville Haute, and follow the River Yonne. At the fork in the road, ignore the sign for Centre Ville, keep to the left and, at the traffic lights, turn right onto the D605. Cross the bridge over the Yonne, then the bridge over the Seine and, at the end of it, turn left onto the D39, and you’ll soon reach the small car park on the Quai de Seine (S/E).
