Start from the car park at Place du Patis behind the post office.
(S/E) Cross the public garden next to the car park to emerge on the opposite side onto Boulevard Paul Baudin. Head right towards the town centre, cross Rue Renée de France and then the Pont Saint-Nicolas bridge over the Loing. Immediately after the bridge, go down the steps on the right to reach the canal quay and turn right to follow the canal on your left.
Continue in this direction until you reach the first lock, the Écluse de la Reinette.
(1) At the lock, cross the canal to reach the opposite bank and continue in the same direction. Pass under the Marolle footbridge (known as the Eiffel footbridge) and, a little further on, take the footbridge on the right which rises slightly towards the second lock, the Écluse de la Marolle.
(2) Cross the canal again at the lock and continue along the opposite bank for 2 km to the Moulin Bardin. At the junction of Rue du Pont Saint-Roch and Rue Hoche, leave the tarmac road and continue along the canal on a grassy path.
After passing under the D 2007 expressway, you will see Moulin Bardin with its old footbridge connecting the farm to the mill. Pass under the mill’s footbridge and head for the next one.
(3) Go under this second footbridge and turn immediately right to cross the canal via it. Return towards the mill along the towpath.
After the mill footbridge, turn right at a walnut tree to take a new footbridge spanning the Loing. Take the path on the right after the footbridge and enter the Savoies and Népruns Nature Reserve. At the next junction, take the path on the right to go round Lake Népruns on your left.
(4) After the ford, follow the path to the left to stay around the lake; there is a small footbridge to avoid walking in the water. At the next junction, leave the path to the left and continue straight on to reach the shore of Lac des Savoies. Continue in this direction until you reach the footbridge spanning the other arm of the Loing.
(5) After the footbridge, turn onto the path on the left; then, after passing under the D 2060 dual carriageway, leave the tarmac path on the right and take the small grassy path that runs alongside the river.
(6) This path passes under another dual carriageway, the D 2007; the passage under the bridge is quite narrow, running along a wall about 50 centimetres wide, so please take care, especially if you are walking with children.
Continue along the river until you reach Lac des Closiers, into which the two branches of the Loing flow. Continue along the lake, leaving the access road to the swimming pool on your right to stay as close to the lake as possible, and take the path between the swimming pool fence and the lake.
After the playground, take Allée Anne d’Esté on the left to reach Boulevard Durzy near the Marolle footbridge. Cross the boulevard and turn right to reach the Écluse de la Reinette. Cross the canal at the lock and continue along Rue de la Poterne, which veers to the right.
(7) At the Crédit Agricole and its superb brick building, enter the Pêcherie district via the street of the same name on the left. Continue until you reach Rue de l’Ancien Palais, which you follow to the left until you reach the Pêcherie footbridge located in front of a florist’s shop.
(8) Take the Pêcherie footbridge, cross the street of the same name and continue along the alley opposite, which joins Rue du Four Dieu; turn right onto this street.
At the end of the street, turn left into Rue Raymond Tellier, cross Rue du Loing and continue straight ahead along Rue de la Tour du Sault.
(9) At the end of this street, turn left onto Rue Neuve du Patis, which becomes Impasse de la Raffinerie after Rue de Vaublanc. At the end of the cul-de-sac, take the passage on the left which leads to Rue de Triqueti, which you follow to the right.
(10) At the end of the street, turn right onto Rue Cour Jean Dupont towards the footbridge which takes you to the Tourist Office after crossing the Loing.
Walk under the Tourist Office, cross Rue Renée de France to return to the starting point of this walk (S/E).
