A simple return walk along the banks of the Nive between Ustaritz and Bassussary using the towpath.

This hike will take you to the heights of Halsou, through moors, forests and farmland offering superb panoramic views of the mountains and the Nive valley. It includes a few slopes, but they are quite manageable. The route is marked in yellow.

This route is a beautiful circular route between Souraïde and Espelette via the Col de Pinodieta. This hike is published by the municipality of Espelette under the name "Pinodieta" and is reproduced here for use with Visorando.

The hike starts from the centre of the village of Espelette and heads towards the first hills to the south of the town, offering beautiful landscapes and a wide variety of environments and atmospheres. The hike is marked with yellow arrows and the name "Aldaxka".

Starting from the pelota court, we suggest a very easy, bucolic circular around the village. Halfway along the route, you will take paths through the woods and unspoilt natural areas.

This route will take you to the summit of Errebi more directly than via the Notre-Dame d'Arantza chapel. Two-thirds of the climb is on a gentle slope, ending with a slightly steeper section. The reward is at the summit with a 360° view. Horses and sheep will accompany you along the gentle descent to the Col des Trois Croix.

A beautiful hike to the Calvary of Ainhoa with its disc-shaped funerary steles and chapel, avoiding the tedious climb up the monotonous stony track from the village.

This route to the Col des Trois Croix avoids the usual path to Errebi. You’ll be walking along small roads and idyllic paths used only by local farmers. As you climb along the path, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Mondarrain massif. The second section offers views of the Spanish peaks. A very pleasant walk with no difficulty at all.

The chapel of Ainhoa, dedicated to Our Lady, was built on the side of Mount Atsulai at an altitude of 389 metres. Below the chapel, a small cave has been reconstructed. The statue of the Blessed Virgin dominates a spring near which Mary is said to have appeared in a hawthorn bush to a shepherd who exclaimed: "aranza zu" or "you in a hawthorn bush!". This hike takes you over the peaks of Soporro and Errebi, starting from the Col de Pinodieta. You’ll enjoy magnificent views all the way to the coast and encounter plenty of local wildlife: pottoks and vultures will be a regular feature of your hike. There are two water points along the route and numerous possible variations to shorten or extend it.

A pleasant hike in the Basque Piedmont with beautiful scenery.

A lovely walk, with a short stretch of road at the start, which is very quiet. After that, it’s a steady climb up to the Pic du Mondarrain. A few wooded areas provide some shade. The final ascent is over rocky terrain; you may need to use your hands at times, but this is only occasionally necessary. On the descent from Mondarrain, there’s a brief, slightly more challenging section – a few metres where you’ll need to hold on to some rings set into the rock. However, this section can probably be bypassed via other paths shown on the maps if it really is too difficult; the idea was to complete a circular route.

A beautiful route through hills and mountains, this trail is aimed at experienced hikers. The length of this hike allows you to enjoy two stunning views from the summits of Mondarrain and then Artzamendi. There is plenty more to discover, including the betizu, small wild cows of the Basque Country, as well as the pottok, manex and Blondes d’Aquitaine. In addition to these domestic animals, there is a wealth of local flora and fauna to discover along this route. The Esteben Borda restaurant, situated halfway along the route, offers a chance to stop for a bite to eat before tackling the second ascent of the day. After Artzamendi, the descent into a wild valley will delight hikers before the circular route finishes along the beautiful road leading to the Pas de Roland. For the more athletic, this route is perfectly suited to trail running.

A very beautiful route to reach Mondarrain via the north face. The summit passes at the foot of a climbing site. See Practical Information. The view from the summit is 360°, from the Basque Coast (Côte d'Argent) to the Béarn Pyrenees, passing by the peaks of Navarre.

Here's another way to do a nice loop in Ursuya. This hike is always on open ground on wide paths with magnificent views from the start to the summit. The end of the return journey is via the Iramalda and Harrixuri ridges with Cambo-les-Bains in front of you and, further away, Bayonne and, of course, the coast. On the left, you can see La Rhune, Mondarrain, Artzamendi, etc.

An easy family circular. Discover the countryside around Bidart and its iconic mill. This old flour mill, whose origins date back several centuries, is famous not only for its traditional architecture but also for its functionality, which has stood the test of time. The mill uses hydraulic power, characteristic of traditional mills in the Basque Country, which captures the energy of the water from the Uhabia River. It is one of the few mills in the Basque Country still in operation today, producing flour using traditional methods. The route follows part of the Bidart greenway, which can be extended to the sea by following the Uhabia.

The ascent of Le Mondarrain provides access to a viewpoint covering the Basque Country as far as the sea. Views to the south over a wild landscape, kingdom of birds of prey, horses and local breeds of cattle, which are a little wild as they are free to come and go.

A circular route starting from Amotz and heading towards Suhalmendi through woods and meadows.

A circular route through the hills above Ibarron (Ibarrun in Basque) with Zuhalmendi in view. Mainly on wide tracks, this route presents no difficulty.

Between Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle and Ascain, this hike is inspired by another called "Collines d'Ibarron" (Ibarron Hills), but I like the trail that starts at point (9).

This walk, published by the municipality of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, forms a lovely circular route in the Urguri district.

Another way to tackle all these little peaks between Sare and Ascain. A few fairly steep sections, but the return along the Uzkaingo Erreka is quite picturesque. After the descent from Zuhalmendi, you walk past herds of Basque pigs roaming freely.

Ainhoa, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, invites you to discover its gentle environment. A steady but relatively short climb in the company of pottoks and flocks of sheep takes you up the hillsides and mountains. This is followed by a magnificent open balcony path, offering a vast panorama of Spain, the Nivelle valley, the Rhune and, further away, the coast. Three huge white crosses proudly dominating the village of Ainhoa and facing the pyramidal summit of Atxuria guide your steps towards Notre-Dame de l'Aubépine, a divine spot for a picnic. Here, splendid Basque steles add to the spiritual dimension of this unique viewpoint.

This hike starts in one of the most beautiful villages in the Basque Country. The route takes you up a series of climbs to the Col des Trois Croix. From there, you climb to the summit of Errebi. The view stretches from the ocean to the mountains of Labourd.

This walk takes you past the Chapel of l’Aubépine, Mount Errebi, Mount Soporro, the Pic d’Ourrezti, and finally the Pic du Mondarrain. The return journey follows part of theGR®10, avoiding the steep climbs of the previous mountains. You’ll have the pleasure of encountering sheep and wild horses.
