Mont Errebi from Col de Pinodieta and return via Col des Trois Croix

This route will take you to the summit of Errebi more directly than via the Notre-Dame d'Arantza chapel. Two-thirds of the climb is on a gentle slope, ending with a slightly steeper section. The reward is at the summit with a 360° view. Horses and sheep will accompany you along the gentle descent to the Col des Trois Croix.

Description of the walk

In Espelette or Souraïde, take the Ainhoa road (D20) and park near the Col de Pinodieta (176 m), in a small car park located on Chemin de Landako Bidea.

(S/E) Take the dirt track heading south-west to a cattle grid.

(1) Follow this wide path until you reach a fork with signposts.

(2) Take the path that climbs steeply to the left. Follow it to the edge of a forest.

(3) Go up to the right into this forest until you reach a barn.

(4) Behind the barn, there is a passageway that allows you to climb over a barbed wire fence and access a meadow. Climb up through the grass along a well-marked path until you reach a chicane that allows you to cross into a second meadow. Follow the grassy path until you reach a fork.

(5) Take the grassy path on the left, which leads to a fence. Climb over the fence and head right to climb southwards until you reach the GR®10, to the right of a barn.

(6) Cross the GR® and follow the path opposite, which climbs steeply to a first peak (altitude 554).

(7) Go around this peak on the left. Follow the grassy path that leads to the Errebi ridge, and follow the ridge to the left until you reach the summit (elevation 583). Enjoy the 360° panorama.

(8) Take the grassy path that descends and follows the ridge to the Col des Trois Croix, where you will find the GR®10.

(9) Head completely to the left to follow this path and leave it just before it reaches the barn at point (6). Continue along the main path to quickly reach the uphill path, which you will follow in the opposite direction to the car park (S/E).
