Soporro – hunters’ hut – Errebi – Ainhoa Chapel

This hike takes you over the peaks of Soporro and Errebi, starting from the Col de Pinodieta. You’ll enjoy magnificent views all the way to the coast and encounter plenty of local wildlife: pottoks and vultures will be a regular feature of your hike. There are two water points along the route and numerous possible variations to shorten or extend it.

Description of the walk

Park near the Col de Pinodieta, at the edge of the Chemin d'Urxtegia, taking care not to obstruct traffic.

(S/E) Continue along the path in the direction of arrival to begin the climb towards Errebi.

(1) At the junction, take the sharp left-hand bend and you will come within sight of a sheepfold on the edge of a wooded area.

(2) Turn right and climb across the fields, heading south. You’ll come out onto a wider path; follow it to the right for about fifty metres.

(3) Take the path on the left towards some large rocks, then look out for a sheepfold and walk past it on the left. You will soon come to a wider track; follow it. Cross a stream then climb up to join a track coming up from below.

(4) Continue to the right, staying on this track, until you reach theCol des Trois Croix junction.

(5) Leave the track and take the grassy slope to the left, running parallel to it, following the pidgeon hunting huts, and climb up to Soporro by going straight on; the going gets steeper and steeper until you reach the summit, where there is a splendid view.

(6) Continue in the same direction to descend on the other side and reach a pass where several tracks cross.

(7) Head straight on under the trees to discover the hunters’ hut, which is hidden behind a bend. It is an ideal spot for a picnic, sheltered from the wind and with shelter available if it rains; there is also a tap. Then return to the pass.

(7) Turn left for about twenty metres, then turn right (west) onto the Gaineko Borda path. Head below the line of fir trees on the left.

(8) Turn right towards Xarahandi and keep to the right.

(9) Follow the narrow track to the right to climb up towards the Col des Trois Croix. This is actually a rather rough track made by pottoks.

(5) Take the second path on the left towards the summit of Errebi, the second peak of the day: continue to enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding peaks.

(10) Continue by taking the path on the left to descend towards the Chapel of Ainhoa below.

(11) At the junction, turn left to reach the chapel: there isa table and a water tap just behind it.

(12) Turn back.

(11) Continue straight on, soon passing a cave and crossing the stream that flows out of it. Reach a junction near the path leading uphill.

(13) Turn left, then continue straight on down a fairly steep slope. You’ll reach a T-junction.

(14) Turn right at the bottom of the descent and you will soon reach thefirst junction you passed on the way up.

(1) Keep left and, following the route in reverse to the one taken on the way there, return to the car park (S/E).

A few challenging climbs, but the reward is at the summits with exceptional panoramic views.
Quite difficult to park at the start.
Be careful on the last descent, which is very slippery, especially if it is wet.

Very beautiful hike. We parked the car among others along a road near the start. We used the mobile app, no problems, only positives
Thank you

i set out to do this hike, but I couldn't because it's impossible to park. There are no parking signs everywhere, even along the road. I think you need to find another starting point on this loop

Please note: at point 9, there is no path leading up to the Col des Trois Croix, and if you venture to follow the marked route, you will have to make your way through a thicket of brambles and gorse.
