Description of the walk

Leaving Itxassou via the D249, park on the left after the bridge.

(S/E) Continue along the road for 50 m then take the path branching off to the right just before reaching the D918. Continue at a leisurely pace, passing a small cottage and carrying on until you emerge from the woods.

(1) At the fork, turn left onto the path that climbs up to a road and a small hamlet, where you will find a carved standing stone on the right.

(2) Turn right into the field onto the small path that climbs up the slope and soon joins a wider track. Follow this track, keeping to the right for a steep climb, whilst enjoying the exceptional view from Mount Arrokagaray. Reach the top of this climb.

(3) Turn back for a few metres, then take the small path diagonally to the right which descends to join the road at an antenna.

(4) Head left and follow this road to the small hamlet with the carved stone.

(2) Turn left and retrace the ascent route, in the opposite direction, to return to the car park (S/E).

Superb hike!
With ascents and descents of varying lengths but easy overall. Beautiful panoramic views at the top, perfect for stopping for a bite to eat. We really enjoyed it and the description was spot on.

Early spring. I made it at the end of March

I think it's a seasonal effect. The same hike when the vegetation is less developed and/or less cut would certainly have been completely different, but that's a factor to take into account. Better to do it in winter or spring?

Too bad for you, because it didn't have all those obstacles when I did it. Normally, it's a fairly wide path.

Hello,
We were disappointed by this hike, which seemed easy enough to get back into the swing of things.
We did the walk with children and a dog.
The climb between points (1) and (2) is poorly maintained, with overgrown ferns.
The section between points (2) and (3) is the most interesting, with lovely views, especially upon reaching point (3), which offers a stunning panoramic view!
However, the descent from (3) to (4) finished off half the group: a relatively steep slope on a path that had recently been cleared of undergrowth; the dog struggled to make headway through the cut gorse and brambles. The path was obscured by the cut vegetation, making the descent dangerous for the joints…
We were certainly unlucky with the timing of the maintenance work, but we really don’t have fond memories of this route.

A lovely, easy little walk
You can have a picnic at the top of the hill
Stunning 360-degree view
Be careful on the way down, especially if it’s wet
