Itxassou church car park.
(S/E) Leave the car park to the south and go up the small road on the right for 100 m. Take the path on the left (yellow trail). Follow this path west for 500 m until you reach the crossroads at an altitude of 110 m.
Follow the wide path west (yellow markings) until you reach a paved road. Continue along this small road for about 250 m. At the signpost, leave the road and turn left, go through the gate and follow the path that climbs south-west and winds its way up to the Col de Legarre (or Legarreko Lepoa).
(2) Cross the road and head south on a wide trail until you reach the Col d'Amezketa.
(3) Go around a small wood and continue south; start climbing towards Mondarrain for about 100 m. Then take a small path on the right (southwest) that climbs gently towards a rocky outcrop. Go around this rock and, on the plateau, return south for about 150 m.
Leave the path on the grassy slope, heading south-east towards another rock. After this rock, continue south-east towards another rock, close to the edge of the woods at the foot of Mondarrain. Rejoin the woods and go through a fence.
In the woods, follow the path first south, then south-west until you leave the wooded area. Head south up the fairly steep slope to the foot of the rock face (climbing rock). Cross a small scree slope towards the east and reach the summit of Mondarrain on the very steep rocky path.
(4) Descend south on a steep path to reach the grassy pass below. After about 150 m, turn left and join a path that winds northeast, then north, and goes around Mondarrain (yellow trail). Reach a fork at an elevation of 568 m.
(5) Turn northeast onto the well-marked trail and descend to the road and the abandoned pelota court. Follow the road that runs alongside the court until it bends to the right.
(6) Leave the road and descend along a small grassy path, still heading northeast. Continue along this path which, after crossing a stream, climbs steeply northeast then north and emerges at the Col d'Atharri (cross).
(7) Descend towards Itxassou to the north until you reach the crossroads of the paths you passed on the way up.
(1) Turn right and follow the same route as on the way there to return to the church car park (S/E).
